The range itself is fantastic. Unfortunately, the staff tend to overstep, and often appear less experienced with firearms than the people paying to shoot. Customer service also leaves much to be desired. When I politely asked about a military discount--something many businesses choose to honor--the response I received was, 'this isn't Applebee's.' As a Purple Heart recipient, I found that dismissive and unprofessional. There are much better ways to address veterans than with sarcasm. Outstanding. Like, seriously, you can tell the people that work here are passionate about guns, and safety and all around education about guns. I did come with my cousin, who owns a few guns. So as far as renting guns from Howell's, I don't know. I do know you can. But cost, and paperwork, I don't know. Now, for my experience. First we gave our drivers license, and we had to sign a document which we scanned the QR code and initialed the appropriate areas. Then we watched a short video on gun safety. You do need to wear protective eye wear and earplugs and ear head ware too. My little ear plugs kept falling out. I have small ears. So I wore the head ear ware. We were given a lanyard that said range 2 lane 7. We went in our room and found our lane. We were the only ones there. We did rent the lane for 1 hour. You can choose whatever time you need. Between me and my cousin, an hour was plenty of time. A little about me. I'm scared of guns. I don't have arm muscles. I'm like nervous about the kick back, I mean, all the things. I did once shoot a riffle with L.L. Bean years ago. So I know a little, but not enough, and still scared. This isn't pop pop like you see on tv, this is a full blown bang bang. Bob! Oh my word. That man, you know he's passionate. He had so much patience with me, and gave such great instructions. No complicated words and gun lingo. He was just an outstanding human being. He watched me so carefully, he gave instructions on how to hold the gun. My thumbs needed to be like stacked side by side. And he would watch me shoot, then he said, okay, looks like your grip is good, but try twisting your left wrist upward a little, and I would do it, and sure enough, I shot better. I was getting a lot of kick back and my little girly arm muscles just started to fatigue, so he said, try leaning in a little with your whole upper body. I mean, everything he said just made me better and better. He was so kind in his directions, I felt so comfortable and more relaxed as I was learning and learning more. And as I changed my grip, or my stance, and making sure I lined up the 3 dots, and keep everything level, and breathe, and squeeze the trigger. I was getting better with practice and not feeling so nervous. And really, Bob just made me feel more relaxed. I had my cousin to guide me as well, and Bob, so I felt like I had a great support team during my hour. My cousin, dang, he was good. But he's been shooting guns his whole life. Highly, really, highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to try it out. Practice, but most of all learn and respect guns. Price wise. 2 people, an hour, box of bullets and 2 targets, and 2 earplugs. Like $80.00 we had our own guns, but you can rent theirs. I basically got a personal instructor, and that's priceless. This is an Outstanding gun range. Very well made. Felt very safe. The lane target controls were so high tech. We're not used to that fancy The employees were very nice too. The price for lane rentals and gun rentals were good. I rented a .22 LR rifle that was full auto. I wanted to see what it was like in semi-auto since that is how I would have to shoot it at home. When I tried to shoot full auto, it would not work. I asked an employee about the issue and he was so nice. He brought out the second one of the exact same gun, but that full auto didn't work either. They refunded us for the rental and the ammo which was very nice. Would definitely recommend! read more

Adam has designed and built a state of the art facility that offers a great atmosphere for shooting, learning and buying. When you walk in, you immediately see the larger retail floor space with plenty of firearms, accessories and ammo to satisfy any of your shooting needs. Up the stairs and to the left is their hunting rifles, shotguns and archery center. To the right are their two ranges, which accept most caliber (check website for those you are not allowed to shoot), their member lounge and a classroom for a number of classes they offer. I have taken several NRA classes with their highly qualified NRA instructor Debbie, and I have spent several hours at the range working on my marksmanship skills. Returning shooter after 30years. Had a online issue so i went to shop to schedule a beginner class. Staff was very helpful and suggested a personal session. For those in the future reading this, covid19 concerns are very prevalent right now so that fact that anyone is doing 1 on 1 instruction is huge! Additionaly after paying for the instructors time + a well functioning glock 19 (zero malfunctions) the total cost was almost the same as the original class would have been, and i had my own personal instructor. The instructor kept track of what i had difficulties with and what i did well at enabling more time to be spent where it was needed rather than where the average person needed it. As a Veteran - This Place is Worth the Drive!!! I have been here twice, once for my initial firearm purchase, once to bring my friend who had never fired a firearm before. I plan on going again to bring another friend who has also never been shooting. This place is hands down the best place to ask questions, browse inventory, and find exactly what you're looking for... whether they have it or not. Chances are they do though! Their indoor shooting range is phenomenal, as is their Firing Range Attendant(s). The place is about as relaxed as you can get while they still adhere to all the proper safety precautions, formalities, and it's just an all-around outstanding atmosphere! Ever since my first visit, I have thought fondly of this place in a great light, and have been looking for a reason to go back. I paid for and scheduled to attend a training class. I was unable to make the class and left four or five messages to let them know I could not make it to the class and to request a refund. Great service. They answered all my questions definitively and quickly. I was able to walk out with my first concealed carry from this shop. The prices are low to average. I wasn't able to use the gun range, unfortunately because of CCP Virus restrictions, but that is usually available. Also, they have a massive selection of hand guns readily available. Everything is overpriced. They don't carry basic gun supplies. The last two times I was there I waited in line to purchase something, only to have the employees walk away from the registers while I was in line. I ended up leaving empty handed both times! Get the right sales guy, and this place is golden. They usually are all very knowledgeable in their field. I have yet to come away disappointed. Memberships are available for their range, prices depend on what you want or need. They have recently added on so the place is roomy, a ways to go for cozy but still good. There are several store dogs that will greet you on arrival begging for treats too. Howell the owner is almost always in the store keeping an eye out and talking with peeps. I was looking for a particular pistol which they had in stock but they sold it before I got back to Purchase it. Donnie showed me a comparable alternative that I purchased. That was the beginning of a great business experience that my family enjoys today. From that first purchase we have been treated like family. They are all super nice and are very smart. I just got my gun fixed and they where super good and quick!

When my wife and I went shopping for a handgun, we went to Howell's to check out selection. We entered the store which had 3 or 4 people milling around. None of the 2-3 employees could be bothered to even say hello. We stood at the gun cases for about 20 minutes, and were totally ignored. My son(33yo) was down back looking at rifles,also not spoken to. After 25 minutes, we headed for the door, never to grace this business with my presence. It appears that Howell's Gun Shop does not need my or anybody's business. We had the cash to purchase, however someone else will gt our money. read more
