One of them is an 8 year old boy that his uncle tells me suffers from Meyers-Briggs syndrome. He's a huge sports fan so I decided to pick him up some sporting goods. At mile post 100, ready for a break from the road I fired up the old google map in search of a sporting goods store, and Suri dutifully revealed to me this Dick's Sporting Goods in Sandusky, OH. It's a great store. Huge, well lit, very few dark corners. They have everything from athletic wear to Zamboni parts. The staff was almost creepily helpful. After checking out their skate gear, lacrosse sticks, bodybuilding equipment and sundry other offerings, I settled on a full set of football gear. The boy's uncle had told me that he really wanted to play pee-wee football but was not allowed because one of the major side effects of Meyers-Briggs syndrome is excessive crying. But there's no reason he can't dress up like his heroes of the gridiron! I picked him up a Riddell helmet, Cleveland Browns jersey, pads, pants, and a tiny little jock strap all for less than $200! On the way out I grabbed myself a new set of Adidas shower shoes, some Quench gum, and I was on my way. I'll be sure to check out Dick's in my hometown, but it's unlikely I'll have cause to revisit Dick's in Sandusky.

The merch is well organized and there's a large variety. The store sells exercise equipment, clothing and shoes, plus lots of gear for any sport or regime. I like the sales they have on thick socks in the winter as they have really good socks. I do wish they had more cotton clothing though, I don't like exercising in polyester ick. You can absorb microplastic that way even. The lack of sustainable and healthier clothing made me remove a star. Overall it's a very nice store with great parking and right by the food court.

In the shoe department there were three associates kicking it and not approaching anyone for help so took a star down. Once my husband approached them, only then did we get what we needed. Weird. The checkout was awesome great staff who welcomed us with a smile and was super efficient and smooth with our transaction. During the COVID years, DSG kept it legit and professional with car deliveries. When I do stop for golf gear, I'm always approached in that department offering help so that makes me happy. Overall, I do love this store experience overall. Admittedly, I did try the new Polaris location the weekend of their re-opening Aug 15-17 and what a nightmare. Too loud and too big for my taste. Keep me going back to Easton as the people are great and Easton keeps it easy.

The employee near by said that she could offer me the bat at a discount since there were no others available in the store. She asked her manager. This manager, Brandon, had zero customer service skills. He never said hello to me, didn't make eye contact. He said, "nope you can't buy that because it's probably available online" If this is Dick's policy, okay. It's a stupid one. I may have said, barely above a whisper, "that's bulls**t and you know it." Then he stepped up to my face and began berating me about my parenting skills. What?!? We then went to a nearby dick's and they at least 20 of that bat. (Would have been nice to be told this by instead of "it's probably online") ive worked retail - when you are out of inventory, you can buy the floor model. Further, they had at least 50 youth bats n the cage (all with prices, barcodes, etc) and, get this, 4 youth bats in stock. The policy aside, the rudeness was completely unacceptable. Hadn't been to this store in eons. I was desperate to find a pelvic and/or thigh/groin support…read morebelt/strap. I already scoped out another store, but found nothing. It popped in my head to try Dick's. I thought for sure they'd have one, considering it's an athletic store, and huge at that. I am a 53-yr-old woman with RA and fibro, and I severely strained the thigh, back, pelvis and groin areas. I had to use my cane to enter the store; I grabbed a small cart to lean on, as well. The guy standing near the entrance said hi, but didn't ask if I was looking for something specific. I looked around, lost, so looped back to him and asked where support belts and such would be. He told me they were located upstairs. He then mentioned an elevator, and pointed in the general direction. I knew I couldn't take the escalator, because I needed to lean on the cart at that point. I searched all over for the elevator, and nothing. I finally looped back around to the restroom sign, and eventually realized a small makeshift sign was taped to the wall, noting the elevator was down the corridor. It was very generic and not noticeable from afar. The elevator is way in the back, hidden, old, worn and it reeked inside. The #2 button was taped over, and only #3 or #1 could be pressed. I don't know why there is even a #3, but I chanced it anyway. It took me to level two. lol I finally found the wall where all of the braces were attached to, albeit quite far away from the elevator. The area is quite congested, and not really made for a cart to traverse. I was relieved to find the wall of braces...only to be let down. Out of all the rows and rows of braces, straps, support this and that, not one single item for the pelvis and/or groin. I didn't even see a spot where it's supposed to be, so I suspect they don't even carry them in-store. Additionally, I noticed there were no price labels anywhere, so it was a complete guessing game as to cost. In severe pain, I had to wobble away and get back to the 2nd floor. I took the escalator, and left the cart there. I didn't want to get back into the smelly, clunky, old-sounding elevator again. A young female employee saw me when I got to the bottom, and asked if I found everything I was looking for. I said, "No..." She just chuckled and said, "Oh..." I then replied, "I couldn't find what I was looking for..." She didn't say anything back. No offer to help, find another employee, etc. After going to a 3rd store, I gave up. I just ordered online and I get my brace tomorrow. I was just hoping to have one today, and maybe even try it on, to ensure it fits well, etc. Such a shame that Dick's didn't deliver. A huge store like that should have them as a no-brainer...and on the 2nd floor to boot. You'll have people coming in probably in pain, so why put them on the 2nd floor? lol Makes no sense. The employees need to be more connected and interactive. Lastly, that elevator is horrible. And please make signs which direct you from the point of entry all the way to the elevator! This is basic 101 stuff.
