I love dicks sporting goods as a company.. I've always had good experiences there and go for so many reasons.. but I've never had such weird interactions like I've had here. Twice on my returns I was accused of wearing it. Both times ! I couldn't believe it. The first were sweats which he said felt "wet".. and that it seemed I washed them. I asked him if he noticed the paper tags on both spots are intact and if I washed them, wouldn't they have come out shredded? He just looked at me and said sorry. Which is whatever I guess I've worked retail I understand if they have a policy they're trying to enforce.. but just now I bought these shoes yesterday LITERALLY YESTERDAY and my friends suggested I look at Nike for other colors and to my surprise it was 33% off so I order them! Just saved myself some money and promptly returned them.. well I get there the today to return them and she said they're clearly worn so I can't return them.. again with huge fat tags looped on the holes in this shoe. Seem to be in the same boat as everyone else. Their customer service is terrible, and no one in there knows what they're talking about and no one took accountability. I ordered something from on cloud, and it was the wrong size. I called AHEAD of time to see if I could exchange in store for a size that would work better. The lady on the phone said it would be okay as long as the shoe is brand new, after I blatantly asked "even if its not from a Dicks Sporting Goods". I get there and everyone's looking at me like I have three heads and as if I dont know what I'm talking about. I called in order to AVOID the unnecessary commute. When I called the manager about it, she was even more condescending and belittling and asked "why wouldn't I take it back to the store I got it from" ... because TAMARIS when I called you guys said its okay. It's like bringing your Amazon return to a Kohls, so my asking if they did this wasn't like extraordinary. Worst Dick's we've ever been to. My husband and I bought a kayak, and we needed help safely strapping it onto our car. Initially when we called, the salesperson said they would definitely help us and not to worry. When we got there, they were so stand off ish / impatient and didn't give us ANY helpful info (what straps to buy, what paddles to get, etc.). They also said they could only put it on the top of the car, but not touch anything. We said we understood the liability issue, but nicely asked for him to just walk us through the process. He walked away and didn't even help. We spent an hour in the parking lot trying to figure it out. Luckily we did but we'll never waste our time here again. I was told by Dick's customer service to come to the store regarding a defective item I purchased online and the store would help me. The poor excuse for a supervisor, Jess, refused to help me or process an even exchange. She would not even allow me to speak to the store manager, saying they were away and she didn't know when they were returning. Dick's customer service even called the store and they still refused to do an exchange. Keep an eye out for a complaint from corporate. read more

Dark skinned guy with a bald head is extremely rude, I asked him for help with buying some weights equipment and he had the attitude of not even willing to help me, not saying this location is bad, it's just the person that's working here made it a bad spot to buy what I was desiring, while he was doing something else I wanted to try the equipment I was going to buy just to make sure it's in my comfort range. there was another Dick's employee there and she didn't say anything so I continued testing the equipment, and all of sudden he snapped at me saying don't use the equipment loudly and aggressively. I told him I'm just testing the equipment and he said it again "don't do that", after that I just lost my motive to buy the equipment. I went in with a very limited amount of time to get some soccer cleats for my daughter. Got good basic direction on where to look and what to consider. The shift was changing and the new guy coming in offered help even before he put his things down. He checked the shoe fit, confirmed price and made our rushed visit a productive and hassle free experience. I've been to this Dick's several times over the past few years and have usually had a good experience. Sorry to see that others haven't had as good an experience. I think it's tough for the young people working there to walk the line between being helpful/overbearing. I've always just assertively gone right up to someone when I needed help or politely said 'no thanks' when I was browsing. read more

This place is a very good place to go for sports gear, if you're looking for hockey gear, pants, helmets, etc. then this is the place to go, they have tons of other good gear here as well as golf baseball, football, sneakers, cleats, and merchandise if you want a team shirt, would highly recommend this to anyone, almost everything there is top notch although if you're looking for higher prices for top quality gear then (obviously) go elsewhere but for baseline gear this is as good as it gets. Only reason I put this at 3 stars is because some of the merchandise there is absolutely ridiculously overpriced it's bad. Went to Middletown location to purchase a kayak. The store seemed to be understaffed. No one available to help after 20 minutes alone in the kayak section. Manager "Sarah" could not have been more rude. Gave me the 'wave off' when I asked for her help, never alerted available staff to address our needs over the radio, and began a passive aggressive campaign at the registers that was so incredibly offensive, that I couldn't stomach spending my money in her store. Sarah's staff all seemed to be affected by her discourteous behavior. I traveled from Middletown, to both Poughkeepsie and Kingston stores to make my kayak purchase that day. Michelle in Poughkeepsie was a doll. She didn't have the boat I wanted in stock but got in touch with Chuck in Kingston who was sympathetic to the poor experience I had with Sarah and executed a service recovery like a pro. Chuck and John at the Kingston location had my kayak wrapped and bundled for me before I arrived, and assisted me in carrying the new boat to my vehicle in the parking lot. Sarah could stand to learn a few things from her counterparts. Chuck and Michelle made me feel like I was making a good decision, spending my hard earned money in their store. As someone who's worked in the service industry, and fully understands the pressures of working retail, I'd like to recommend that Upper Management take a close look at who's helming the ship in Middletown. Keep conscious of whether Sarah's actions are in step with the core values and treatment Dick's Sporting Goods strives to provide. And remember, the fish always rots from the head. read more

I'm a healthy individual who does not wear a mask due to a medical condition. Bike employee tells me to wear a mask and I politely say no thank you I'm good. He calls a manager over and I tell the manager the same. Manager was very respectful and just says the employee refuses to help you with out a mask and I say ok no problem (very nicely). Employee then decides to then walk around and give me dirty looks and stares and decides to leave his area and not finish putting together a bike while I am far away from him. He decides to wander around the store but I still see him staring at me. It was very unprofessional while I was very nice. If a manager told me I had to leave I would have since it is private property. But I was not asked to leave instead this employee decides to just stare me down and act like an immature child. The staff was friendly if a little distant, but I suppose corona and being short handed does explain that. Dicks of Middletown at crystal run has the Worst customer service EVER!!!!! They have many 20somethings standing around talking to each other and being extremely UNHELPful. DO NOT SHOp here if you expect service. Went in with a large list of required items to purchase for my son to go to camp. Lacrosse stick, hockey stick, helmet, cleats and even more. I purchased the items I needed without assistance. I do believe there was one very nice young lady named Halley who was kind enough to bring out the soccer cleats and help. The person who handles specific equipment, like hockey sticks, was called twice but never came over to help and even walked past my son and I. We finally found the hockey sticks that were not for ice. I will absolutely never step foot in this store again. And in fact, if I can make it to Modells tomorrow to buy the same or all of the items, I will go back just to return all of the items. They don't deserve the one star. read more

I have to agree with the negative reviews about the Middletown, NY Dick's Sporting Goods. I have visited that store on occasion of the years which is understaffed and the very few sales people that do work there I believe actually hide from the customers and rather not bother. I stopped by today and browsed the entire store and especially one section I needed help with some merchandise I wanted to purchase. I stood by the counter for over 10 minutes and nobody came over to offer assistance. I refuse to walk the entire length of the store to the cashiers to ask for a sales person to come over to the back section. I bet there are live humans behind those cameras watching every move you make though. I left the merchandise on the counter and left the store in disgust! Give them something to do and restock the merchandise on the shelves. I didn't see more than two sales persons in the entire empty store. I mean there was maybe only two other customers browsing in the entire fairly huge store my entire time I was there and the two sales persons seemed like they were actually tucked away hiding behind the shelves, and I seen one walk into the back room of the sneakers department and never came back out to see if there were customers needing assistance for my entire time looking at sneakers and work boots. I was in the store maybe about 40 minutes and never once personally encountered a sale person. Oh, and the item that I seen Online that advertised "IN STOCK" at that Middletown store was non-existent and neither were any products at all of the Magpul brand that could only have been located in the Firearms section. And of course nobody was there to help me. The few sales persons that were there, were young obviously minimum wage kids working there, so I guess I was expecting too much. I assumed that this store would have picked up customers from Gander Mountain who recently liquidated and closed all it's stores. It seems that's not the case at all. That will be my last trip to Dick's! They say all the brick and mortar stores are closing with people going Online nowadays. This certainly doesn't help these stores stay in business. "Sarah" the yellow toothed "Manager" is the definition of a HORRIBLE EMPLOYEE. How can an establishment like dicks sporting good keep an inconsiderate, repugnant, disrespectful person like that to not only oversee staff, but to engage in dialogue with customers? When I attempted to make a purchase and asked her for a discounted price due to the item being the last one and only having a display available, she got visibly upset and told her employees, "Don't sell anything to them!!"
