I Really like this chain, especially this particular store. They usually have what I'm looking for in stock. While it's certainly not the biggest store they do carry a very good selection of seasonal outdoor gear. Excellent Sporting Goods, Hunting, Fishing, and Camping departments for all of your outdoor sporting activities. They have pretty decent prices on most items and always move alot of clearance through out the store. They have a great selection of hiking boots in their shoe department at very competitive prices. The customer service here is pretty good for the most part and the staff seems to want to help with your shopping needs. I can recommend this store to be a very solid 4 stars. read more

Horrible customer service. We had Jonathan in the shoe dept. First off you can tell he hates his job. I asked him to measure me and he refused. I asked him for suggestions on certain sneakers- he could have care less. He made it clear in front of my friends we were not a priority and he was just down right rude. If I'm gonna spend 100 + bucks I want the experience to be worth my while and to have somebody who works there that is knowledgeable. I mean, if you hate your job so much and you don't wanna measure people and you tell them to just do what's best and you can't be bothered. Why then are you working there? Such a shitty experience.. these guys need to be trained on customer service and they need to be trained on their own product. Some of them didn't even know what a tennis shoe was or a pickleball shoe was. This is a very well-versed area. People should know what they're doing, want to be there or want to learn. read more

Dick's a big box sporting goods store may be large but it's employees are really helpful. Store is clean and well organized and the checkout was pleasant. They literally have everything you can ever need. I wish they had a bigger selection of pro sports shirts and such but I found most of what I wanted. Big parking lot off Route 10. Easy in and out. Our order of basketball shoes had been messed up completely there was a shoe in the box that was a complete different color and style than what was bought and the correct shoe in the box was the wrong size. ROBIN had been the one to package it. I am no one to judge but the shoe was supposed to be green and we received a pink one. Idk how color blindness works but I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she may see green as pink. Hope she's doing okay but I am not over here. read more

I brought putter back to the Dick's store in East Hanover NJ that was a birthday present from my wife a year or two ago. It was a top brand, expensive putter and I felt the the mfg Titilest should make good on it. The golf lead--Reggie Haynie asked me to explain the issue, where he tried it on their putting green and agreed there was defintely something wrong with it. He said let's call Titilest right now. He dialed them up and put them on speaker explaining the Dick's store he was calling from and explaining the problem. They transferred him to warranty service where we both explained the issue. The gentleman from warranty service--who Reggie confirmed should be a warranty claim for me, sent a FedEx label to Reggie and a return authorization number. Reggie said he would take care of it for me. 30 mins later I got a call from Reggie confirming my putter was on it's way back to Titilest! That is unbelievable customer service--I highly recommend Dicks and especially Reggie Haynie in the East Hanover Store! Thank you Reggie!! read more

I went here today to make an in store return. I didnt have the receipt and I asked the cashier what I could do and she could not have been less helpful. They kept telling me I didn't have an account when I know I do. And then who I assume was a manager told me she could give me 3 dollars for a 48 dollar pair of shorts. I got right back in line, gave the exact info to another cashier, and I had 48 dollars back in my bank account in 30 seconds. Very inconsistent and poor managing/info. They have a good selection of sporting equipment. Better than they Wayne location, which is always out of everything. Went to get baseball cleats for my youngest son in a size 12 or 13. Was told they didn't have them. Went home and ordered them online to pick up at the East Hanover store. Odd that I was told they didn't have them. They are usually helpful at this store. I like this Dick's location SO much more than the one in Rockaway...unfortunately, this one isn't as easy to get to so I tend to take the easy way out. I stopped in here today with my son to exchange a sweatshirt for a different size, and ended up buying some extra Christmas presents simply because the layout in this store is much more conducive to picking stuff out that you had no plan on buying in the first place. I don't buy a whole lot of sports equipment for the kids at Dick's anymore, but I like the clothing here, and when I do need to grab something in a pinch (field hockey balls, fishing gear, cleats, etc) they almost always have what I need. Most importantly, the staff here (especially the cashiers) seem to be nicer and less frustrated than the ones working in Rockaway. read more

Came to check out some new shoes for working out. I have some issues with my feet and I asked for help but the workers weren't very helpful or confident with the assistance that I needed when deciding on the best show. Running shoes are pricey and I would have appreciated more assistance with learning the best ones for my feet. The worker did not know what the best shoe was and she didn't know that they came in more than one color option. I had to look around myself to see that there were others and then she told me that I would have needed to go to another store for other colors in my size but there is on I can try in a size up than she brought out a size lower. I just didn't find the workers here to be of help to me. I had to do my further research on my own to decide. They did not check on me or make sure I was feeling good about what I was choosing just trying to push shoes on me to make a sell. I love the selection available at this store! Everything is very organized -- but the store is very crowded. It's almost a controlled chaos, if that makes sense. Each clearly marked section has an overabundance of stock available; this store is great if you like choices, but bad if you can't make a decision. My mission: athletic socks & a medicine ball for me, exercise top for my BF, new Yankees shirt for my mom. We split off, ready to divide & conquer. No one really offered to help me, even when I was wandering back & forth in the sock department. I finally flagged down an employee to ask sizing advice - my shoe size is somehow between the largest child size & the smallest women's size. He seems generally uninterested as he pointed toward the women's socks. "Just use those. Socks shrink in the wash." He kept looking around like a better customer was right around the corner. Shrug. I picked my socks on my own & went to the cashier. In the athletic equipment section, I decided on a medicine ball without any help. Nearby, small children were screaming across the store while they played on the ellipticals & weight benches, unattended. (You figure that's more parenting than store policy, but there still should've been at least one employee assigned to that area!) In stark contrast, the cashier was incredibly friendly & helpful! She offered to sign us up for the rewards card after promising it would only take a few minutes. She rang us up, made a little bit of small talk, & was very kind to both of us as we left with our new gear. Despite the floor employee's demeanor, we left with smiles on our faces thanks to the cashier. I guess service is hit-or-miss, but with the huge selection & several brands available, there's a really good chance you'll find what you need here. And thanks to that rewards card, the next time I need some athletic gear, I'll make Dick's my first stop. read more

Tonight the customer service in the shoe department hit an all time low. My son and I go to pick out basketball shoes. At the time we're the only customers in the shoe section but apparently had to walk with shoes in hand to the other side to find someone to get the sizes we needed. An associate saw us approaching as he sat and chatted with another associate. He didn't get up or offer to help. I asked, "Can you help us?" and was greeted with nothing but curt nod. Annoyed I asked for the sizes we needed. He got what was in stock. My son tried them on, ran around, and made a selection. Not once did the sales associate ask if we needed help. But here is the best part. We put back the shoes we didn't want neatly in the box and started walking away with the pair we were going to purchase. The sales associate actually ran after us with the display shoes we used to request our size and asked US TO PUT THEM BACK. Because he didn't know where they go. Are you kidding me? Doesn't he work there?!?!?! My sweet, helpful 8 yr old took them saying no problem while I was speechless. I have never seen such complete lack of customer service. Throughout the entire ridiculous experience, we always said please and thank you because our children learn courtesy and respect for everyone around them. This guy's JOB was to be courteous and he failed poorly. We're never shopping at Dick's again. And we had been big consumers there for items big and small for our 3 kids and all their sports. read more

I just walked out of the East Hanover store totally frustrated. I called an hour before, to inquire about getting my tennis racquet restrung. The person on the phone told me if I dropped it off today, I'll receive it in two weeks. I chose this option because the store location is within my commute. I arrived at the store and asked where should I drop off my racquet. I was told no one was there, today, to help me. I informed the employee that I received conflicting information about an hour ago. After soliciting help from another employee, the young man gave me a form to fill out. Just as I was about to hand him the filled out form. The manager called him away to help other customers. I was left there waiting for a few minutes, before leaving. This may not seem a big deal, but this happens quite often to me and people who look like me. I'm a woman of color in a community of "non-minorities." In the past, I would just quietly wait it out, but lately, I been choosing not to spend my money at places that disrespect me and treat me as if I'm invisible. read more

Dick's is nearly identical to Sports Authority. I almost felt as if I was walking through a SA store. The only difference is Dick's seems to have a more helpful staff and it's convenient to me. With that being said, the sportswear is all the same. Their prices are pretty identical. I ordered The North Face fleece online and wanted to get it that same day so I choose store pick-up. This particular location was closest to where I was coming from so I decided to pick up from here. The store is your typical Dick's--clean, wide open, and very organized. You can find all your athletic and outdoor needs here. Picking up the product couldn't be easier. As soon as you walk through the door there is a kiosk on your right next to the register. All you have to do is scan the bar code on your digital receipt or type in your last name. An associate then comes over and gives you what you ordered. It was quick, painless, and efficient plus as I was waiting for the product to be retrieved from the back no less than four other sales associates came and asked me if I needed any help. When I was a kid, I would always get lost in a sporting goods store (I would look at sneakers I didn't need and beg to upgrade gear that didn't need upgrading). There seemed to be a ton of options back then: Herman's World of Sporting Goods (out of business), Modell's (terrible now), Sports Authority, etc. I recently needed to buy a North Face backpack for hiking - Modell's only had back to school bookbags and Target had very little selection in their one aisle containing "outdoor" gear. I found the one Dick's that was open on a Sunday in NJ (damn blue laws!) and found exactly what I wanted. The problem was that Dick's had almost too much selection (I felt like I was that same kid again lost in sporting goods store trying to upgrade everything). read more

I haven't been to this store in quite a while and it just so happens I was here twice in one week. The first time we were greeted by Paul in the shoe department. He could not have been nicer. He worked with us to find just the right hiking boots for our trip to Peru. We observed him helping other customers as well. He was friendly and extremely knowledgable. The second time I was there to purchase running shoes. Again we were greeted by extremely helpful staff. The cashier who checked out our purchase was friendly and helpful as well. Good selection of sporting goods and products. Price point a touch on the high side, when compared to Model's or Sports Authority. Customer service is pretty poor. They keep the doors to the fitting rooms locked, which wouldn't be a problem if you didn't have to work so hard and wait so long for somebody to open one for you. Not having lived in the east coast in many many years, I can only say that this place compares with the West Coast to Sports Authority, Modell, Copeland. I went to this sporting goods store for a red shirt. My grandma had a big birthday party at a chinese restaurant in the same complex, and having just landed on the redeye out to Newark Airport early that morning, and being a Sunday with nothing opened early, I knew I could find a red t-shirt to wear; chinese tradition or some mumbojumbo like that. $10 for a red tshirt, worn with tags, to the restaurant. That's how I roll. Good thing we're not in a gang 'hood. I was going to return it right after the restaurant, but I ended up giving the shirt to grandma. read more

I went in to look at a golf driver and sneakers. In the golf section I stood there for 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging me. One guy was working with a customer, another was scanning sports bras. I figured they were busy so I went over to the sneaker section. Once again for 15 minutes, no acknowledgment. Went back to the golf section for another ten minutes and stood right in front of the golf register to see if anyone would say anything to me and was disappointed once again. I was there to spend money and now I'm not. Walked past two other individuals during this in between departments and they looked quite unhappy. Working in retail sucks, i did it for four years, but do what you're there to get paid for. This is my first time ever putting a bad review on anything, usually consider it to be petty but this experience was so terrible I feel the need to. Best of luck in the future. read more

Although smaller than the Rockaway store, the staff is very helpful with everything! I needed some tips with a new baitcaster reel I picked up and wound up talking with a sales associate named Ron for 20 minutes. He gave me all the tips and good spots in the area and even invited me fishing. Great people skills at at the store overall. read more
