I was here a few weeks ago and had the most appalling visit of my life. The staff was super helpful and went above and beyond looking for a few items for me. It wasn't until I went to the fitting room and smelt an awful stench. There were clothes everywhere, but this awful stench filled the room. Was in there tonight looking for a pair of tennis shoes. I was in the shoe department for about 10/15 minutes and there was no dicks representative around. I did find a kiosk where you can look up the shoes and apparently alert someone that there was a customer that wants to try on a specific pair of shoes. After I entered all the information into the kiosk, I waited about 10 minutes but nobody came. I decided to leave and as I was walking out the door the manager was standing there and I told him about my experience and he said "OK" nothing more than that. No sorry about that sir, I can get someone to help you out, just an OK see ya later attitude. Well I've been going to Dick's for many years but if this is how they are going to run there business, I will not return. I will be contacting the corporate office tomorrow to let them know about my experience and see what they're response is but I know what mine would be. This kind of big chain store makes is all the more appealing to shop online. I've been here a handful of times and it's never the easy process it should be. I went to get a fishing license once and they couldn't figure out how to do it so we had to move along. My most recent expedition was to get a snorkel and mask. I checked online first and they have an abundance of them so I figured it was safe to get one here the day before my beach trip.. Nope. I walked in and a group of four employees were just standing around chatting. I couldn't figure where to go and when I looked for help I seemed to be dodged. I finally found someone who just told me to go "upstairs." I went to the giant upstairs and couldn't find anything except for about five kids masks. It took forever to find an employee and when I did they said that was it. I told him I drove 30+ minutes to get here could he check in back. He did (and was helpful) and found a few, however he told me they were $30/$40 for each one. I had him do an official price check because I wanted to make sure and he came back out to tell me they were instead $50 and $70. Not exactly a great value for something I'm going to use a couple of times so I hit the road. He did his best to help and steer me in another direction. This Dick's Sporting Goods location is MASSIVE and honestly, somewhat intimidating to me. They seemingly have everything a person could possibly want or need if working out, or playing a sport. On my most recent visit, I didn't feel overwhelmed for very long because an employee on the floor immediately asked me if she could help me find something. I was so impressed by her knowledge of the store and the products they carry. She led me right to the lacrosse gear, and even gave me suggestions on which mouth guard she recommended. She was incredibly helpful to this Mama who has no knowledge of lacrosse. After my pal left my side, two more employees asked if they could help me in any way. I am so impressed with the number of helpful and friendly employees I encountered today! The shoe department was a different story however. It is spring, and every mom in Johnson County seemed to be at Dick's buying soccer cleats for little Jimmy. Since the shoes are largely stored in the back where only employees can access them, customers must have someone grab shoes for them before they can try the shoes on. I only spotted two employees today in the shoe department. There were dozens and dozens of people standing around waiting for service. I actually needed to buy shoes today but I opted not to bother based on what I observed. Dick's Sporting Goods in Leawood is filled to the brim with fun clothing, gadgets, and toys. So this is where Americans buy their ugly tennis shoes. Don't get me wrong, i have a pair of cross-trainers, but they are for working out, not for my everyday look and definitely not for tourist activities. The one reason i come here is to buy yoga clothes and now it looks like that section has been reduced down to almost nothing. The sports bras used to be good, but the rack system is done so poorly. if you are larger than a C cup, you will find yourself crawling on your hands and knees to find your size- this feels like punishment for being busty. This particular store is a disaster with merchandise scattered everywhere. Watch out or you will break your neck tripping over shoe boxes a hanger or a random flip flop. I see the sales staff, but no one is actually picking up. Check out is a long process. I would compare it to trying to cross the Mexican border after a long weekend....you kick yourself for going there in the first place and you just want to back to where things are safe and familiar. read more

Something tells me Dicks isn't' going to be around much longer, so I thought I'd go back. It's been years since I tried to find anything at Dicks, and now I remember why... They have a bunch of stuff for sale, but nothing I really want. Yoga pants? Yes, they have them, and no thanks. Way overpriced when I could have Lululemon for the same money. Not many actual staff people to help out either - it's like shopping online, without the discount or selection of things you really want (no help to be found). The store in Independence does not have what this store has. This store is bright, huge, with everything except what I was looking for. I remember going to this store when it was Galayans, oh the prices were out of this world then. Though they didn't have the balance board that I'm going to buy online, (by Vew-do, or something close to that type) they have every form of exercise equipment, on display, and I saw people try it. Their clothing section is so well stocked and bright.I can get a feel for how well they keep their women's clothes stocked by basing it on the Underarmour selection. Well, they have the glove liners, both kind of women Underarmour turtleneck, tights of all colors, and accessories. Yes,I bought mine in Independence, but this store has so much more. I didn't get a look at the cold weather women's pants, cause I no longer shop at Dick's Sporting Goods for that. This store is bright, well stocked with great employees. It's been a long time since I've been in a Dick's Sporting Goods and I think I was just surprised by how ridiculously enormous the store is. You can get anything just about anything you need, sporting-wise here, and while I was frustrated at first with the level of service, after coming down stairs and asking for help, I realized how slammed they were with back-to-school and back-to-practice for sports. Leawood has the biggest Dick's in the metro area, and this store is proof; there is a little Dick's over in Lee's Summit. This store was so much more hip when it was Galayan's. The Rock climbing wall has even been decommissioned. So sad. There is still a lot to offer. It's a large two level sports store with a lot of stuff, including hunting and camping. It has excellent choices in summer gear, clothing, shoes, and workout equipment. It's always well stocked with the newest most chic sporting goods. While at times over priced, it's nice to look these things over even if your going to order on the net. It's an interesting store to wander around in but, of course, I like sports toys. This place is huge and overwhelming. I usually just buy my workout gear online, but sometimes I'm forced to go here. It's also my go-to for kids' sports equipment- their selection for any sport you can think of is massive. The staff at the registers aren't the best- they do that annoying thing of pointing to where something is. Nobody in line today and 3 clerks just hanging out, but this young woman couldn't just walk with me over to the Nike section and help me find leggings? Lame. But she did call someone over to help me and 2 people actually came, and they were super helpful. They have a rewards card- just give them your phone number to look it up, and their return policy is pretty good- 90 days with receipt. read more

STAY AWAY! Caveat Emptor...Let the buyer beware. I have shopped here for years, but that has come to an end. They will NEVER receive another dollar of my hard earned money. Purchased two bicycles for my kids. Invested over a $$$$ grand in these bicycles and supplies to haul them around to different riding venues. On the first spin, my daughter's GT Laguna Pro broke the rear derailleur hanger (I had to research this part myself, because I got zero help from the staff at Dick's in Leawood, KS). I contacted Dick's immediately, was transferred to a friendly staff member, and after placing me on hold to talk with a supervisor, exclaimed that it would be "no problem", but needed to have a bicycle technician call me the next day. He assured me that the tech would call and that this would be an easy fix and that they could send a part out for me to do the repair. I live three hours away from the store, and fixing it myself would be much easier than hauling the bike back to KC. The next day....no return phone call. Surprise?! Disappointed!! Third day....called again and was transferred to a young lady in bicycles. After re-explaining my dilemma, she said I had no choice but to bring the bike in. I told her that that was impossible and to just send me the part. She claimed they couldn't do that because there was no way to charge me for the part over the phone. HaHa! That's just ridiculous and an empty statement. I said it should be under warranty anyway and that she should just send me the part free of charge and that there would be no need to charge me. She then got rude and said that wasn't an option and she then gave me another store she thought was closer to me and that any Dick's could do the repair. That other store was 2.5 hours away from my residence. At that point her rudeness escalated and I basically said that this is poor customer service and I would not be shopping there again. She said "fine", I retorted that a bad review would be forthcoming. That wasn't a problem for her and she said good bye and hung up the phone. Flustered, I called back, spoke to a manager, and he was very helpful. Apologized, said it wouldn't be a problem, and that if they didn't have the part in stock, they would just take one off another GT Laguna Pro and send it to me. He said he would have a bike tech call me by 12:30 PM that day. No call. I give up. I am done with Dick's. They want your money to push product out the door, but that will be THE....LAST....TIME we ever set foot in that store or make a purchase online. I purchase the part locally and another on Amazon and repaired the bicycle in five minutes. My daughter is up and riding again. But no thanks to the appropriately named "Dick's" Sporting Goods in Leawood, KS, a suburb of Kansas City. What a shame. Microshift, the brand and manufacturer of the derailleur, was no help either. I called them and left messages three times on their automated system and they never returned the call. They're a joke too and I'll be leaving a review on them as well. On another note, I purchased online from Dick's about the same time as buying the bicycles a heavy punching bag with speed bag and stand, and when it came in, the box was torn open and I was missing hardware. There was a rep in there who helped me with my shoes in the shoe department he was very very nice and I wish I would've got his name because he went above and beyond however I then proceeded to go pay for my shoes Call when I was told a total it was way higher than the sale that was advertised and all I did was ask "oh that with the sale for today ?" then Khaleah cut me off while using her hands and motioning by saying "what sale? There's so many sales in the store ma'am... i'll need more information than that. I stood there blankly not sure if she was just having a bad day.... Or thought she had the right one... so I replied there's a flash sale it's only today till 10 PM ... So she says "what is that I can't just go off what you say ma'am I need to see it... in my opinion I'm just adding this part who talks to people like that? So then I showed her the one on the website .... She then said oh is that our website (as the logo and web address at the top of the page says dicks sporting goods ) And she wouldn't touch my phone as I held out the proof she requested ..So I zoomed in so she could see then she said OK now show me what the price is in your shoe size .. so I did it ... she said ok let me get my manager to override it it was updated and corrected and she held out my receipt and said thanks ma'am have a nice day ... no joke I just took my receipt and then slid the box from her side of register to me and picked up and held the box and just left... It was really strange and it ruined my awesome experience from the shoe rep that helped me... it's just strange to walk out of the store without a bag when I know the item can fit in a bag And get someone who has like that kind of snippy attitude I can't explain it it's not like a normal customer service experience That I know that if I was corporate no way would I have been talked like that read more

Natrually, with the big game coming up, I came here to pick up some sporting items to tailgate with before the match. I purchased a fine baseball bat, and a nice baseball. Even picked out a baseball glove that was the perfect fit. Now I'm all set to join the baseball game with friends in the stadium parking lot. However, this shop is not the better option for clothing in the area. I saw a plain sweater for $95. Luckily the prices won't drain you pockets, because you won't have a pocket, because you needed to buy pants, but the pants here are too expensive. read more

I have never bought a winter jacket here, nor hiking boots and mountain bikes. I've never even climbed the wall. I've never spent so much as two quarters for gum in the checkout lines - and yet I hold Dick's so close to my heart. Like my Sauer Castle saga, there were great shenanigans about two years ago here with my best friend. We were bored and it was summer - and friend's since pre-school, she's consistently been the friend I am most stupid with... So we decided to sneak into the tents on the second floor of the mammoth building 10 minutes before close (with a backpack of goodies to tide us over of course, junk food and a camera to record all the craziness that lay ahead) with the intention of sleeping over for a full night. Somehow, we crept in without notice and sat as still as we could in the tents for an hour while they closed down each section painstakingly over the loud speaker, blaring phrases like: "Section 9, please make sure there are no more customers in the canoes." I drifted to sleep and the next thing I know my friend is nudging me awake at some odd hour - the tent was darker, the main lights had turned off and the emergency lights were on in the building - we were alone in Dick's. Zipping the front open to reveal the empty museum of sporting goods, we crawled out slowly and silently and stood there for a minute in disbelief. All my fantasies of being locked in a mall like that one episode of Saved by the Bell were coming true...and the first thing on our minds, even though it was only sporting goods, was of course, trying on the clothes. We ran towards the woman's section, planning on later taking a stab at the rock wall ...alone. But we never quite got that far...because we triggered the silent alarm (a low, long whistle of an alarm.) All Saved by the Bell fantasies floated out of my head as hard time in Johnson County floated in. Johnson County cops, maybe the most notorious for really screwing a youth's future for bogus activities, large or small - were going to be arresting my friend and I for...I don't know TRESPASSING! We were fools thinking we had a free night to flounce around unnoticed like Natalie Portman in Walmart in that one movie where she's pregnant and living in the mega-store for a month. NO, this was certainly NOT Home Is Where The Heart Is. I had to think quick. We escaped though the exit doors in the back as the police were opening the front doors - and through the AMC 20 across the street we ran while the custodians were dumping the last of the theater popcorn in the trash. Worst customer service I've seen in years. Father-in-law went there to get two items. Just two... And accidently left his keys in the dressing room when trying something on. And since it was a few MINUTES after closing, the cashier (around age 55) would NOT let him check out so he had to leave. After he's outside, he noticed he left his keys inside the building and when trying to get back in to get them, the employees ignored him till someone in there 40s came by and offered him a phone call only. So he was left strained outside in the cold with no way to get home. And yes he was probably slow, but ITS BECAUSE HE HAS PARKINSONS... everyone that worked there that night (10/23/2019) was in a rush to get out and didnt care one bit about there customer. read more

If you have been around the area for the last 10-15 years, you'll remember that this location of Dick's used to be a giant sporting goods store called Galyans. Dick's purchased the chain in the early 2000s and this mega-large location has resided here ever since. Dick's stores are everywhere, but this is one is particularly exemplary. The sheer size of the store dwarfs the competitors around the area (Sports Authority, Academy, is Nill Brothers still open?). You'll easily find whatever sporting good you need here for a reasonable, but not spectacular price. Different departments around the store stock the most up to date wares and employees are friendly and helpful. Gone are the days of Galyan's climbing wall in back, but Dick's still provides many other attractions to keep you returning. I wish their sales were better priced - their recent "blowout clearance" sale was "meh" at best. My biggest need at Dick's is usually golfing equipment or clothing. Discounting a Nike or Under Armour golf shirt to 45 bucks from 65 isn't that good of a deal. Dick's is your one stop shop for any kind of sporting good. Golf, hiking, camping, tennis, weight lifting, and any other niches are all housed under one roof. read more

I went in the mecca that is known as Dick's. I was looking for a Camelbak water bottle with a straw. I have buying cheap bottles of this sort for a while and they always make the water taste funny and grow mold quickly. So I decided to spend a little extra on something I normally wouldn't, and I'm glad I did. They had the most ridiculous selection of water bottles. And ridiculous in the way that is way too many to choose from. If you are that anal about a particular type of water bottle, then you'll probably find it at Dick's. It took me a while to even pick out the one I wanted, but I finally found it, shiny and pink on the back of the shelf! They also have a nice selection of sports equipment as well, so if you have the inkling to play a game of cricket or lacrosse in your back yard, suit up with stuff from Dick's bros. read more

There was a painstakingly poor review by someone who claims to have snuck in and slept in a tent until discovered. Personally, I found this to be bogus, bragadicious and simply stupid. Of course it says she returned to New York, where she is most likely trying to tell people she snuck into A&F (it used to be a sporting goods store). This person, is a thief, a law breaker and most likely cheats on her taxes. I simply can not think that a person with any sense would think this would be a good idea. Her notations about "Saved By the Bell" and the movie (whatever crap that was) shows that she has spent FAR too much time watching the idiot box and is having trouble seperating fact from fallacy. She must think she is Slater's girlfriend in SBTB. Go figure. This is a pretty awesome store though, despite someone's wet dream about sleeping the night away and trying on clothes (by the way, you can do that during the store hours too). I love Dick's and this is my favorite location. I have son who is very active in sports. When we lived in Topeka, we rarely visited the Dick's there because they didn't have much of an inventory. Instead, we would wait and go to this Dick's when we were in town. Now we live just down that street and have for 2.5 years. I cannot tell you how many times we have been there. Here is why I love it... --It is a full sized Dick's so they have everything that the company carries. --It has two floors and with the recent remodel (within the last year or year and a half) it is bright and beautiful inside. --The restroom is always clean. --The sales associates on the floor are very helpful and if they don't the answer to your question or can't figure something out, they call someone who can. --If they are out of a size you need, you can scan the item at a kiosk to order and pay for the size you need and you will get it at home within days (I've used this a couple of times!) --You can buy a new baseball glove and use the glove steaming service to have it broken in. For free! You can also pay to have it done if you want to bring a glove in. --Even with a lot of people in line, it goes quickly because they always have lots of registers open. --Their Score Card helps you have money. --Large selection of anything I have ever been looking for. --All brands under one roof. --I have had to return numerous items and have never had an issue. You can get your receipt e-mailed to you and later pull it up when you need to return or exchange something. If you have a Score Card, they can also look up a receipt using your phone number. --Huge parking lot. I've never had an issue with parking. I could go on and on, but I think you get my point. Looking for my first real pair of adult sunglasses has been a challenge. Usually I've resorted to buying the $10-$15 pairs at Marshalls for fear that I will jump into a lake and lose them (done that), get swept away by the current while rafting (done that too), or just have them slip off my face while looking down and scratching them all up (guilty as charged). Now that I'm a big boy I wanted to treat myself to some real, authentic shades. Knowing that Dick's has coupons all over the place I went to their website and saw that if you enter your email they will send you a 10% off coupon. SWEET!!!! They emailed me the coupon and in the minute, vision test of fine print it says "Online Only". Well I'm not about to spend $200+ on a pair of sunglass without trying them on first and not without my fashion designer (Mrs. Chad). I made that mistake once getting eyeglasses and came home with a pair of Harry Potter glasses (not good). So we go to Dick's and after trying on about 25 pairs I find the perfect Maui Jim sunglasses. They were expensive so 10% off would save nearly $30. I pull out the coupon and the teenager who was helping me says "Sorry you have to order them online". Wait, I have money and am standing in your store, but you are going to make me drive home, order them, and wait a week to finally get them????? Yes! Well $30 is nothing to sneeze at so I play ball and go home and place the order. Three days later I get an email saying that my order has been CANCELLED. WTF? So I spend 5 minutes on the phone trying to find a human and finally get a nice lady who tells me they made an inventory mistake and my sunglasses are now out of stock at the warehouse. I tell her that there wasn't an inventory problem at the store and if they had allowed me to use the damn coupon we wouldn't be having this conversation. She tows the company line about online only coupons and asks if I'd like to look at something else. NO, I'm not buying a toilet brush where one is as good as the next one. I'm buying something that you are kind of particular about. Well after a couple of phone calls and talking to a supervisor they finally relent and say they are going to mail me a gift card to cover the 10% because they can't make the store honor the coupon. So now it is a week after my in store experience, I still don't have the sunglasses, and I'm waiting for the postman to deliever my gift card so I can make the purchase that I had intended earlier. This store has really gone downhill. It has always been a step above the other Dick's. Service is nonexistent, the lighting is warehouse styled and the shoe department is a maze. Today, the fitting rooms were a disaster area. Thirty plus garments left piled up in any room I found open, no where to sit to put your shoes on. DONT BUY FROM THIS STORE. Dicks is not a bad retail store but this one in particular employs people who mis speak when selling a product. The return policy is clear and doesn't say anything about a Fitbit not being able to be returned or any electronic products for that matter! They wouldn't take my Fitbit back that I had for a week in perfect condition. Was told by an employee that I had 60 days to return the Fitbit. LIAR. Now I'm stuck with a product that I don't like. Both had unbelievably dirty floors with tags and assorted grime so bad I hated slipping off my sandals to try on pants. Clearly they had not been sweep for some time. Enormous store, stocked with everything you can think of, staffed with friendly people who cheerfully tell you things like they can give you an extra 10% with the coupon you didn't know they had behind the counter. Prices are on the high side, but that's offset by the frequent sales and the club card. read more
