Not as big as Academy, and not as much in clothing, but overall a decent sporting goods selection.

Walking up to this place makes you feel like saluting to the good ole Texas flag!…read more This spot absolutely became my heroes on the very first visit. After a horrific visit at a close by competitor that has USA in their name... this place stood out like a beacon in the night on a foggy night at sea. Upon entering we were immediately greated within 3 seconds. The gentlemen there welcomed us in as if we were familiar family. We approached the counter and I asked them if they did trades and he said yes but it depends on exactly what I was interested in trading. I went back to my vehicle to show them my trade and a little background and they were more than happy to give me close to what I purchased it for as it was only 2 days old from where I originally purchased it from. They happily gave us a small tour of their facilities and showed us some products of interest. They were extremely knowledgeable about every product there as they are also a gunsmith shop so can also do any type of modification allowable. I was extremely happy to hear that they have a 30 days return policy on anything you buy there. Their nearby competitor surely doesn't have that same policy. The customer service is excellent and I was able to make my trade as well as buy new hardware. I'm also happy to announce that they are adding a range early next year right next to them. I love that small shop feel of a place vs the corporate treatment where you're treated only as a number. In fact, whilst I was there another customer walked in complaining about that same nearby competitor and how bad they were with customer service. Clearly they have a reputation that Texas Underground doesn't have and have been the savior of many. This is my official spot going forward for Ammo and Armory. Be secure and Prosper.

This company is conducting mail fraud. I've been fighting them for over three months…read more 1. Placed order for 3 cases of .22 ammo. Credit card was charged immediately. 2. Order was cancelled. 3. A few days later, the order was reopened, a shipping label was created, and the order was "shipped". 4. A few minutes after being marked "Shipped", the order was cancelled again. 5. I sent an email telling them to either ship my order or refund my card. They responded via email that they would give me a full refund within 5-7 business days, and they couldn't ship because some ammo was damaged by Hurricane Harvey. 6. Seven business days later, I still didn't have a refund so I opened a dispute with my credit card company. 7. Yesterday, I received a notice from my credit card company that they had ruled against me in the dispute. Furious, I called them and asked why. I had provided documents of every communication. They informed me that the company had provided a USPS tracking number that showed the order had been delivered. I calmly explained that I'd never received the order, and it's a felony for a company to ship ammunition via USPS anyway. I had them manually type in the tracking number, and it showed that the order had never been shipped. The agent asked me to give her 24-48 hours to assess the dispute. The point, is that this company is conducting mail fraud. They're selling products they never intend to ship, they're providing shipping labels, and even mailing out some pamphlets, apparently. If you've been burned by this company, then please file a complaint with the US Postal Service Inspectors. Whoever is running this scam needs to be in prison. https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/contactUs/filecomplaint.aspx

Don't know what happened to this place, but beware if you order online…read more I've ordered A LOT of stuff from this business over the years (over 1k ) and never had an issue with anything. I should have already gave them a good review. Recently April 2017 I ordered as usual and got concerned when my "order shipped" email never got sent after 10 days. Usually it ships next day and I get my stuff within 1 week of ordering. I contacted the seller and received a "it will ship today" email. Waited another week and nothing. It never shipped and I tried several ways to contact them. No response from any of them. I had given plenty of opportunity to correct or make this one transaction right. Had to open a claim to dispute charges for a refund. Yeah I live in a state with changing regulations regarding ammo sales, but there is absolutely no excuse for poor customer service to a loyal long time paying customer.

From this shopping experience I remembered why I stopped shopping at REI. I am a jack of all…read moretrades so no particular day might be the same for me and that includes my clothing choice. Follow along because this prelude plays a part in my review. On this day the sun was blazing and I had some demo work outside so I am in a long sleeve sun blocker shirt, work jeans with some stains, a pair of steel toe boots and a boonie hat. I researched and saw that this was one of the few places that carried Buff Coolnet UV protection neck gaiters so this was my primary reason going to REI. I walk into the store start looking around and a sales associate pops out of now where and asked if I needed assistance. Harmless enough until I walk to the location that the neck gaiters were at then I hear on the intercom that Mr. ???? is needed in the area that I was in and the phone rang near me. Still Harmless?? I am still looking around next thing I know I see a CUSTOMER (Loss Prevention Specialist) out of the corner of my eye. At this point, you are probably saying to yourself really....Ok, let's continue then. I see some items that I have been looking for which are on sale so I pick up some Thermocell canisters, natural bug spray, a couple of first aid kits, and some other things I do not remember. I thought these would be some good stocking stuffers for friends and family. I move to look at the carabiners and this CUSTOMER slowly moves over in the same area. Now I am like really dude!!! I look around the store three regular customer on the right side of the store looking at kayaks and bike gear, two older regular customers on the left side with three boxes of boots open, two sales associates at the front. I proceed to go to the backpack sale section and as I am looking at the prices and the craftsmanship of the material, this guy is following my every move passing by me twice looking at the items in my hand. At this point, I mentally say Game On! Most Loss Prevention personnel cannot maintain eye contact because they do not want to be detected or their facial expressions tense up (micro expressions) and if the subject that is being followed make erratic moves then it is hard for them to follow a normal pattern of surveillance so every time he proceeded to follow me I did a quick button hook and end up in the same location as I started from but in a closer proximity to him. After about 15 minutes of this cat and mouse, I turn and walk up to him and said, "Look dude, I have no place to be at the moment and I have the time if you still want to play theses games!" He replied, "Sir, I am just shopping". I said, "If you were just shopping you would not have been following me for the past 15 minutes while I shopped and like I said I have the time." He looks at me and walks away as if he is shopping. I reported the incident to the Team Lead Associate at the front desk and they seemed befuddled and said, we do not have Loss Prevention, sir. I described the guy, black polo, khaki cargo shorts, chaco sandals, hairy arms, dirty brown hair and the Team Lead states let me try to find the guy you described. The store is a small REI and the Team Lead leaves and does not return. At this point I am looking at the front door and no one has exited. The other Sales Associate started ringing up my items a bit nervously making small conversation. Once she found my information in the system for REI rewards, she looked up with a normal customer service smile nervously ( she knew what was going on) and gave me my receipt and told me to have a good day. NOW, I remember why I stopped shopping at REI and order most of my outdoor gear from Backcountry.com
