I wish the employees followed me around to help like they did for Tom I., because I can never get proper service here. I purchased a bike here last fall, and I had to wait over an hour to get the one "bike person" to help us out. He was making adjustments to a bike that was either purchased or brought in for service, but how is there not another person that could answer our questions? A couple years ago we purchased an expandable canopy. I somehow psychically decided to purchase the extended warranty, which was a good thing since the damn canopy ripped twice (two different canopies) during normal use. That worked out for me, but for those that don't purchase warranties, this canopy would have been utter crap. I just recently purchased a treadmill at Dick's and I think there was only one employee covering the entire workout and bike section. We asked him a few questions, but then he disappeared forever. We then had to work with a checkout person, who had no authority to negotiate a price break, a free warranty, comped delivery--nothing. When we told them that Sears is selling the same treadmill for the same price WITH free delivery, they didn't care. Great customer service there, a-holes. read more

All I can say is NEVER AGAIN. I usually have a meh experience, what can you expect? But this last visit was it for me. Went in for some line for fishing reel. Asked to get it put on and the worker lost parts of my dad's reel. My dad first noticed the missing drag cap and the worker retrieved it from the back room. And then he noticed missing washers, which the worker also went back to retrieve. After 20 minutes of fiddling with the reel my dad gave up and decided to go home to check against another exact reel we had to figure out what else could be wrong. We noticed that he was missing more washers and a retaining clip. I went back to the store the day after and the same worker found a couple more washers but not all of it and not the retaining clip. What really pissed me off is that he did not have the decency to tell us that he didn't know how to take the reel off and did not bother to ask us for help. Not only that but the line was poorly strung up and looked ugly, very unprofessional. All I can say is, what can you expect from Dicks I guess. They couldn't do a simple thing, and didn't have the common sense to ask for help or admit they did something wrong. We heard zero apology or anything. For that reason, I will most likely never shop there again and will be telling my friends and family to stay clear. read more

I come here every few months to purchase new Nikes for work and the gym. I find their shoe selection to be pretty good. They always have both old and new models of most Nike shoes, which beats having to go all the way to the Nike store. I even found a pair that Nike.Com discontinued, so that was a lucky buy. With other shoes though, I always seem to have a hard time finding my size. I think that's why I only buy Nike. I wear an 8, which is a pretty common size and sells out often, so I'm used to it, but here it only seems to happen with brands other than Nike. One time, I found really cool Sketchers walking shoes, like the kind with the memory foam, and spent forever looking for a sales associate to help me find them in my size. When I couldn't find anyone, I went up front and waited in line until I could ask a cashier to check for me. I swear, just to check took 20 minutes. She was really nice about it, especially when it turned out they could only find one shoe in a size 8 and not the other one (weird). She offered to order them for me. But by that point, I was tired and couldn't really be bothered anymore, so I declined her offer. There does seem to be poor service on the floor. And rarely do I get a cashier as nice as the girl that day. A friend of mine interviewed for a position here and they never even called him back with an answer, plus whenever he called he could never get through to management. I wonder if this place is on the verge of going out of business. I walked in here yesterday, a Friday evening, and the place was practically deserted with 'Clearance' signs everywhere. There were ZERO employees in the shoe department -- I don't know very much about retail, but I'm sure not having staff in the shoe dept is a great way to lose money. It took us almost 10 minutes to find someone who could tell us where the shoelaces were. Everyone in here generally seems to be burnt out, not that I can blame them considering its a crappy min-wage job in retail. To me, Dicks is a decent place to browse for fun items, but not really that great to buy needed items. If I want gym clothes, I'd probably go to one of the nearby department stores read more

The Dick's Sporting Goods locates at the Rio in Gaithersburg,MD has a pretty decent supply of both fresh and saltwater gear. It's not bad if you can't make it to a Bass Pro. I stop here several times from Spring thru Fall for supplies. The rewards system is pretty good and I regularly get $10 off coupons. They also have Huk, UM and Columbia fishing apparel. Only wish the employees would smile more or at least ask if you need help. I often help other people and don't even work there. Still would recommend. read more

This might be the first review I've ever composed. The shoe section was terrible last evening. Two of the three sales people were avoiding customers and letting the third do all of the work. One you g man a rolled his eyes at me when I asked to try a different size. When we finally went to the front to pay there were six employees and a line while they only waited on three at a time. Went to Dicks this afternoon to pick a few things up. The store itself is lovely, but I had a terrible experience checking out. Terrible enough to ask for the manager to return my $90 purchase. Tre was the next available cashier. He attempted to communicate with food in his mouth and a series of grunts. He became irritated when I asked him to clarify a statement he made. On top of being blatantly rude he then became disrespectful. I left his register and asked another employee to page the manager. A few minutes later the manager, Bill, arrived. I told him what happened and he was very apologetic, even stating he was getting sick of Tre as he processed my refund. I am in such disbelief how someone representing a business like this still has a job. I know for a fact if management had witnessed this transaction he would have been fired on the spot. I went to Dick's looking for a swim suit. Didn't have my size . I needed new tennis shoes for work so I went the shoe section. I found a pair of shoes I liked but I had a hard time finding a sales associate to help me . Boxes of shoes all over the place. Meh... We found a suitable folding chair today which my mom tested and it was very comfortable. The guy who works the upstairs camping department just blatantly told my mom that there's no price on it so they can't sell it. We decided to take it to the downstairs register with the idea that perhaps a manager in charge could price it for us. Jaleel at the register simply communicated with the upstairs staff by earpiece radio. I appreciated that he tried his best to get us a price and I see that he does his job well. He told us the price was $20 and we agreed. My mother then got frugal which she always does and asked if there was any discount on the item, since it was the last one and did not come with its bag or any packaging. As an "open item" that was missing its carrying bag, it certainly should have qualified for a discount in my opinion, but paying the $20 seemed fine to me. My issue was Jaleel's unpleasant change in attitude. He wasn't rude, he didn't raise his voice or anything, and of course he was still professional. He just gave us short monotonous answers and didn't seem interested in helping us any further. I understand that my mom being cheap and asking for discounts can be annoying, but a sales rep still ought to treat a customer with a helpful and cheerful demeanor. We got the impression that he just wanted us two paying customers out of there as quickly as possible although nobody else was waiting in line behind us. Next time we will shop at another outfitter store (I will not say what store that is, for fairness to this business) where the customer service that I have received was always far better. read more

DICK'S House of Sport - Inside the store - Sporting Goods Near Me - Gaithersburg, Maryland

We are in a pandemic, and I was at the store yesterday to grab a chair so that a few friends and I can social distance. We got in just as they opened and when we entered there was a sign that reminded customers to stay 6 feet apart. But ironically, the staff that worked at the store didn't even stay six feet apart. Every time I went to go get something, they wouldn't even try to keep their distance. And it is too crowded with stuff in there to keep your distance from other customers. If we want to stop the spread of this virus, stores and their workers need to care about the customers and keep their distance. read more

I'm not sure why so many low star ratings, but receive outstanding customer service at this location. I have found that everyone is extremely knowledgeable about all products in the store. And on those rare moments when an associate isn't sure, they react quickly to find a solution. Prices are moderately reasonable when comparing to online competition. Many people have been critical of Dick's Sporting Goods in Gaithersburg, but my experiences there have been quite positive. I have shopping at Dick's Sporting Goods at Rio in Gaithersburg, Md. for over two years, specifically to purchase fishing equipment and supplies. The staff in the fishing section is informative, experienced, and extremely helpful. R.J. and Brian and others in that dept., (as well as the store manager) have always been more than supportive when I asked for guidance, just talked bass fishing, or wanted to purchase an item and didn't know the particular specs about the item. They know everything from fishing, to kayaking and canoeing because Dick's seems to (at least in the fishing dept.) hire people who have passion and experience in that sport. Yesterday, while there shopping, I had a conversation with a boat captain who goes there to purchase fishing supplies for his trips. Took my fiancé's broken bike into the bike shop part of the store this weekend hoping to have it repaired. To our surprise, the staff at Dick's fixed the bike free of charge! On a regular basis though it's hard for me to understand why prices here are consistently higher than the MSRP listed on the same packaging. I know the overhead is probably higher being located in Washingtonian but it doesn't make me want to leave with bag fulls. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. After they remodeled the store a few years ago it's been an awful store. It's all under armour under armour under armour. No variety. If you're transitioning from youth sizes to adult there is absolutely nothing for you. Also the soccer selection is as big as the number of stars I'm giving the store. The Gaithersburg Dick's Sporting Goods located in the Rio is one of the better sporting goods store in the area. I have found the service in all of the departments to be excellent. The sales associates seem to specialize in specific departments. I find the sales associates in the golf, camping and hunting departments to be knowledeable. On a recent visit, I was set on buying a particular item before I came to the store. The item I wanted was not in stock in fact it had been discontinued by the manufacturer. The sales associates took the time to walk me through several alternatives and explain each one in detail. I found the one I really liked but thanked him and walked away without making a purchase. He was professional and courteous even though I did not make a purchase. After walking away I decided I wanted to make the purchase but wanted to compare the price to others retailers. So, I quickly compared information from online retailers and found the price to be competitive. I walked back over talked shop with a couple of other customers for about 5-10 minutes while the sales associate helped another customer. Once, he was done I made the purchase. HORRIBLE service. Not-so-brilliant employees. This store sold me a damaged product, yet I ended up losing $15 on the transaction to return it. Trying to explain the error in their calculation ways was like pulling teeth. Neither the cashier nor the manager could understand my explanation of simple math. I eventually gave up and just took the loss. It makes absolutely no sense to lose money on something that is a result of their opened/damaged/re-shelved products. I get all of my sporting stuff from Dicks untill now. I have spent a lot of money at Dicks. I purchased an item for $500 that required a manager and they completly dropped the ball time and time again. I recieved a call from Moe the store manger telling me i need to come in and sign paperwork that they messed up. He said if I dont come in and fix "his" problem he would report me to the ATF. Understaffed everytime I go in. Very sad. Colton and Brian were always very helpful but Moe has done nothing to rectify the situation and when i asked to speak with someone higher up they told me that info was not available to me, therefore I will be taking my money elsewhere. read more

Like many of the other DSG stores I've been to, this one struggles to keep small items marked with a price. Also, prices aren't competitive with what I can find online but I've had decent experiences with the staff with the exception of one manager. I stopped in on black Friday to grab a few things and was in line upstairs checking out when the guy behind me asked about getting a hunting license. I believe the managers name was Jason (white guy with a beard). The customer was told "we aren't doing licenses today; my lines are long enough, we aren't doing licenses". No apologies or anything, just very short and direct. I would have been pissed and would have contacted Maryland DNR and advised them right there. I understand that black Friday isn't the ideal time to print out hunting licenses, but nobody forced you to be an issuing agent. At the very least, the manager could have been a little more apologetic and made the guy feel better. I had to explain to him how to do it himself online because he was planning to hunt the next day. read more

I've been going here for various sporting items since it was Gaylans. I've bought weights and a few other items and generally have had a decent experience. However, I recently decided I wanted to buy a new bike. I'm a typical guy and when I DO decide to get something for myself/buy something (like a car), I usually find what suits me, check it out and buy it. I went into the bike section, ready to spend some cash. The bike "geek" was kinda "busy" doing whatever. I asked some very OBVIOUS sales questions that should have perked his interest. He was snooty and blew me off. I then decided, just to see, how 'overt' I could get if he would ever actually assist me. I asked "how would this one handle", "perhaps I could check this one out", and "I just know that I am going to buy a bike today somewhere, just need to find the right one". I know it's retail and not insurance sales or a car lot, but DUDE...that's called a HINT. I wanted to buy a bike and you couldn't be bothered, instead you were busy packing and unpacking BS instead of actually making money for the company. If I had been the Regional Director I would have fired him on the spot...he missed EVERY SIGNAL and instead found some BS to look into back in the section and walked off. Amazing. read more

I came into the store extremely dissatisfied with a previous purchase I made. The store manager, Chris Richardson worked magic so that I walked away such a fan of Dick's. Chris resolved my problem and was very knowledgable and friendly. I can't say enough good things about how quickly the problem was resolved and how painless the process to resolution was. I now feel that Dick's stands by their products and will 100% purchase all my fitness and sporting goods from this store in particular. I hope Dick's knows what a great employee they have on their staff. read more

Went to Dick's today around 1:15 - 1:30 or so. I was looking for a zip up light weight jacket in a size 18 or so. A gentleman that appeared to be a mgr walked right past me with no eye contact. I went into the ladies section and didn't see anything REMOTELY a size 16 or 18 (without digging through a boatload of racks). I then went upstairs because the sign stated that lodge apparel was up there. I walked around there as well and again didn't see anything in the sizes I was looking for. As I was walking towards the escalators, a female employee with her pink water bottle looked right at me and then continued onto the down escalator. As I was going down the escalator, the mgr was going up the escalator asking if one of his employees had taken their lunch break yet. That was a complete waste of 16 miles of gas! read more

Bought a golf grip for my boyfriend for Christmas, paid to have it re-gripped and left. Came back to return the grip as it was the wrong size and I get told it can't be done. Every grip is removable and they insisted they couldn't do it! I asked them to try and they got it off.... but they broke it. They broke the one I was returning and made ME pay for it, that wasn't my fault! Then they charge me for a whole new one plus the service fee!! Robbers!! I tried to reason with an on duty supervisor but he didn't even want to listen, he just wanted to charge me and move on. I insisted that I shouldn't have to pay for the second one as they broke the one I was trying to return! He charged me for both anyways!! Horrible service!! I was furious!! read more

Lets start with saying this place sucks ass! I have been in here 3 times in the last two months. NEVER can I find someone who is willing to help and I have to go search them out. Two days ago I went in for some running shoes. I already had 3 picked out after reviewing and confirming on their website that they carry them in the store. I found what I needed but none of them had my size there. It took me 15 minutes to find someone to check the back and he finally came back and said he didn't have anything. He was so disinterested it was disgusting. I asked him if he had anything in the $40-$60 range. similar to what I had already picked out, that he knew was a decent shoe. He mumbled he did and walked me over to a section and handed me a box and said I would like those. They were some ugly color and then he handed me a second box and said these would work and started to walk away. I stopped him and asked him what the prices were as it was hard to tell. The first one was around $120 and the second one was more. I was so frustrated that I mentioned to him that $120 is nowhere near $60 and just handed him the boxes and walked out. Thank you Amazon Wardrobe. I have 3 coming to the house and will check and free returns for the ones I don't want. This is why retail stores are going out of business. I decided to call the store the today to save myself the trouble and was rudely hung up on not once, but twice. I was bummed beyond belief when I found an employee who confirmed my fears. The shoes would be brought out by ... him. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. I asked him if he wanted to bet how long it would be before self-service returned. The experience was bad, Dick, because young boys don't want to help the way athletic shoe buyers need help. I was in the market for brand new shoes as Ghosts are now pure junk. So I needed to start over. He would NOT be able to help and I knew it. Doesn't have the training or the personality. I have had exactly 3 people since this store opened who were helpful. . Those kids have no idea and couldn't care less. I put on a few pair, thanked him and left. You lost a nice sale.
