There is a lot of ice cream places on the Bethany Beach boardwalk, but I decided to give Dickey's a try after seeing it on Man vs Food. With that being said, I ordered a chocolate shake and it was delicious. To explain, the shake was creamy, sweet, and flavorful. In addition, shake was the perfect thickness. It was thin enough to drink, but thick enough so it didn't taste like chocolate milk. It was definitely one of the better shakes I've had. Yum. The store is just a few feet from a popular ice cream chain. It is worth the visit. I appreciate being able to sample flavors. The orange an vanilla swirl are wonderful. The employee offered a cone with the cup. I adore ice cream cones but it was too hot to have ice cream dripping down the cone. There are benches in front of the store. read more

Quick service at Dickey's for ice cream. It's counter serve, so you take your ice cream to go especially since their lights are normally off and it's pretty casual. Their soft serve is good. Though they have orange and vanilla twist, I really miss the tangerine and vanilla twist soft serve. read more

Deliciousness - 4/5 Happiness - 5/5 There are two locations, one right off the beach and a second next to Pomodoro Pizza. I was surprised how nice this ice cream was. I got soft serve dipped in a chocolate shell and rolled in sprinkles. I really liked the thick shell and different textures. The ice cream itself was just OK. It is very thick, which is unusual for soft serve. It also melts extraordinarily fast, so be careful to grab a stack of napkins. The employees were very safe (all wore masks and gloves) did a great job social distancing, and were very friendly too. read more

The custard here SLAPS. There are so many yummy flavors to choose from. My girlfriend and I went here and needed to go back the next night because it was so good. The red velvet ice cream I got had little chunks of cake in it that was phenomenal. Don't bother...custard made me, my wife, and my daughter all feel bad. My wife and daughter couldn't finish theirs as it didn't taste quite right. Those who know Bethany, know Dickeys. Often a line but it goes really fast. The ice cream is delish, and the staff are helpful young people having a good time. It's a fun environment and you can have a seat outside the front or around the side to enjoy your scoops or do what most do and walk around. This place has delicious hand dipped ice cream plus yummy frozen custard. I went there 3 times during my week at Bethany. Their regular size is huge. It's very hard to eat before it melts, but is completely worth it. I love Banana ice cream which is rare to find, but they had it! It was as good or better than Dumsers from Ocean City. They did a great job of getting people through quickly in groups during Covid restrictions. They also take credit cards. There is a 15 minute parking area right out front but there is no seating area inside. You can walk or find a bench to sit nearby. read more

The location is a bit odd, as it's off to the side of the main boardwalk. Also, it's quite a small place so it can be pretty cramped and crowded. However, great milkshake for a decent price. Good ice cream, good variety of flavors but most are the regular stuff you can find pretty much anywhere (cookies n cream, different chocolate varieties, birthday cake, etc). The frozen custard was a little thick and boring. Tried both chocolate and vanilla, they were both a little plain. I thought the texture was off too, it seemed fluffy like frozen whipped cream rather than rich creamy ice cream. But man o man the Tangerine frozen yogurt is freaking bomb!! I could eat this every day! Its the best swirled with the vanilla frozen yogurt (which was a much better consistency than the vanilla custard). The tangerine/vanilla swirl is like a cracked out creamsicle! Go here and order the vanilla/tangerine swirl! The best frozen custard in the area, although the only flavors are chocolate and vanilla. (They have other flavors of regular ice cream though!) We've been coming here for years, and Dickey's always hits the spot. Note: The Dickey's in Bethany is sort of tucked away from the main boardwalk. I love frozen custard. I have had Kohr Bros and other brands many times, and every time I have Dickey's, I wonder why I would try any other brand! The custard is so smooth and creamy, you will not believe it. I also like the fact that there is a "kids size" option for only $3.75, which is really all that is needed sometimes. Outstanding service - quick lines too. Kohr's Brothers is okay but if you want authentic ice cream go to Dickey's. Went to the boardwalk to get Kohr Bros and the line was too long so we went into Dickey's. My cousin and I both got soft serve swirl but they didn't tell us before that the machine wasn't working properly. When he handed our ice cream, he offered to give us large cups to put under our small cups since the vanilla custard was not at all frozen. The custard was oddly warm and a mess. We both ended up throwing away our $5 ice cream after a couple of bites. Dickey's Frozen Custard is a Bethany Beach tradition. We go there almost every day we are down there... sometimes more than once a day. They have far and away the best frozen custard in the Ocean City to Lewes area. If custard isn't your thing they also have delicious hard ice cream and low fat soft serve ice cream. Plus the staff is so friendly and helpful. The line is almost always out the door, but its worth the wait and it always moves fast. I am not really sure what the beach would be without Dickeys! Great custard and ice cream. Poor upkeep - both stores in Bethany Beach are filthy. The outside seating area on Pennsylvania Avenue is over grown with weeds. The furniture is dirty and needs paint. Busy stores require regular maintenance and cleaning. read more
