A Jewel in Spokane Valley! I have been to Dickie's Barbecue Pits in other locations and while I generally really loved it, they could be a bit hit or miss. I avoided this location because the reviews were lackluster. I finally tried it with my husband, who is extremely picky, and we were so pleasantly surprised. This is actually one of the best Dickies Barbecue Pits we have been to. They smoke their meat daily, all sides are made fresh daily, the help was cheerful, knowledgeable, and the dining area was clean as could be. We had the brisket (mouth watering!) and the smoked chicken (smoky flavor and moist) as well as the coleslaw (better than KFC's) and the mac & cheese (creamy)! I ended up speaking with the manager and told him that I had avoided his restaurant for years due to the old reviews. He explained that that was a different owner, and the franchise had been taken back by Dickies and re-sold to the current owner who pays close attention to how his restaurant is run. It shows! 5 Stars all around for this location. They also do catering so there's no doubt we will be eating Dickies at family events this summer. read more

I saw Heidi R's review on the spokane foodie Facebook page and absolutely had to have some BBQ. Excellent customer service, however, my ribs did not look or taste good at all! I was really expecting something "decent", it's not hard to taste better than longhorn!. Maybe I made the mistake of coming on a weeknight? I'd say stick to the brisket and sides. read more

We were looking for decent barbecue this weekend and decided to try Dickey's since we heard the Spokane Valley location had new owners. They did not disappoint. Ray, the new owner, made us feel welcome right away. He's got the place looking so great inside. Games to play, nostalgia on the walls, plenty of seating, and self serve sauces and soda (The original sauce was my personal favorite). Ray is a super cool dude. An Italian guy with a heart for true southern fare. He knows what hes doing and it shows. The ribs were fall off the bone and the rub on them was finger licking good. We also ordered a half a pound of brisket and it was just as tasty. The meal included Texas toast grilled with butter, mashed potato casserole, and creamy mack and cheese all of which were big hits with my family. It was such a great experience that we're already planning our next visit. I know Ray has a big job ahead of him repairing the rep of this place, but you will not be disappointed if you stop by here to treat yourself to some BBQ. We had a ton of leftovers and Ray walked us out to our car himself carrying the drinks, because that's just the kind of guy he is. If you are in the area.... We had outstanding meals at Dickey's Barbecue Pit on Sprague Ave in the Spokane Valley two days in a row. We tried brisket, turkey, chicken, pulled pork, ribs, and kielbasa. Everything was spot-on! The sauces are authentic and not overly sweet. The Carolina sauce has just the right vinegar kick. We also sampled a variety of their sides. The fried okra and the baked potato casserole were especially yummy. Grey and Corey were the ideal hosts. They were friendly and engaging but not intrusive. If you like excellent barbecue and friendly people, this is the place. read more

Friendly service combined with better food made for an excellent dinner tonight. We ordered the two-meat plate, which was served almost steaming hot. The baked beans and Texas toast were very good, but the cole slaw was the best that I have had in a very long time. The dining room and customer service areas were spotless. Decided to give this place another try tonight and it was a huge mistake. The employees inside didn't know the menu. I asked how many sides I would get with the meal I ordered and they didn't know. They tried looking it up in the computer but I found it faster online. The one employee didn't know how to use the card reader. They were out of baked potatoes, beans, ribs, brisket, and sweet tea. All of my food was lukewarm at best. Potato casserole was dry, Mac and cheese had no actual cheese on it. Sausage was okay but definitely not $20 worthy. (How is a 1 meat sausage plate the same price as a 2 meat plate??) The overall facility was gross. There's weeds in the parking lot, someone was sleeping in the back in their car, a bunch of random handwritten "notices" all over. There were also a TON of flys inside which makes me hope that I don't get sick from the food. I definitely will not be back and highly recommend that you don't go either. read more

We ordered some okra to go, two large servings and could not believe what we got. We got 2 orders for large with about 10 or 15 pieces in each bag, and burnt on top of it. the order for two large bags of okra turned out to be 22.00 dollars and it was so mind boggling, $22,00 for two supposed to be large but look small and burnt. Such a disappointment. We spent $46.00 on lunch for 2 people. 2 meals, 2 sodas, & tip. I ordered the "burnt ends" plate. What should have been crisp, glazed and mouthwatering, was so dry that no amount of BBQ sauce made it moist enough to swallow. The coleslaw was made with, what seemed to be, only onion. It was so much onion it was inedible. The mac n cheese was good but cold. I ate the mac, the rest got trashed. A chainsaw would have had trouble chewing this stuff up. I kid you not. My boyfriend got an order of wings. They came dry- no sauce, served in a bag. When he dumped them out on the tray, it was laughable. They were tiny. These wings were so overcooked that they had shrunk to miniscule specks. As he pulled them open, they actually splintered. The waffle fries were soggy. The BBQ beans were cold but tasted ok. On to the free "ice cream". I don't know what this was. While dispensing it into the cones, watery liquid came out first. The frozen stuff eventually started coming out. It tasted alright but it was a weird translucent looking stuff. What is it?? Seriously. I have to say, the soft drinks were amazing. Sounds weird, I'm sure. But really, they have the awesome crushed ice, like the hospital has. I was happy about the ice. I thought we would end up in the hospital trying to swallow the dry, splintered meat. Ordered $80 in bbq. Over half pulled pork was fat. Wings were old and not sauced at all and there was no sauce at all on the side for wings and pulled pork. Called in and the owner said he was going to make it right and we would get another meal the next day. When we called the next day the owner refused to do what he said he would do and did not make it right. No refund no food replacement, and honestly no integrity. The manager tried to get into "legalities" of the situation because his family members have attended law school... Aside from that, The last few times I've ordered the food has been inedible and/or no sauce. Who wants to eat bbq and wings with no sauce?! It should be pretty simple to put sauce in the bag. Did an online order for pickup. I sent my daughter to pick it up, when she got there she was told they had no pulled pork or Mac and cheese so what did we want instead. You have my phone number with my order so why wouldn't you give me a call to let me know? She then ordered her a chicken sandwich instead, the bun was hard as a rock and no sauce on it, the pop she ordered had no carbonation in it. So we had to throw her meal out. Just random stuff, that was all cold and soggy, but it had our receipt on it and stapled closed! We tried to call the store, and the number doesn't work! It's out of service. We tried to call the "catering" line to see if they would possibly be able to transfer, and that line just kept ringing with no answer! This is the second time this has happened. To be clear, my only experience with this travesty of a restaurant is as a delivery driver picking up orders for customers. After everything I've seen all the times I've visited the Spokane Valley Dickey's Barbecue Pit, I can most assuredly tell you I would never eat here of my own accord. The children employed to work behind the counter are not at all instructed in ANY level of workplace professionalism, proper customer service behavior or frankly proper food service handling. Multiple times I have witness the overwhelmed lead/shift supervisor barking orders and yelling at the lackluster kids who are quite literally just standing around with their thumbs up their asses with facial expressions that would make a corpse look excited. I've seen the employees get in arguments behind the counter, I've heard highly inappropriate remarks and jokes, you name it... And then there was my last visit.... I didn't want to stomach standing in the dingy dining room watching the unprofessional melodrama of an apathetic staff of cherubs prepare the delivery order I was waiting for. So I went through the drive through. After I was greeted at the speaker and told to pull to the window, the gal told me they were "just bagging the order up and it will be right up." I sat there in my car at the window for 18 minutes and NO ONE came back to the window. We ordered through Grub Hub... we specifically asked for napkins and utensils because we are staying at a hotel...and nope.. it's really hard to eat with out utensils. We received a gift card two years ago. Finally decided to try it. All of the reviews are 100% accurate. Terrible food, completely inappropriate workers, needed cleaning. Food - I thought, it would be impossible to screw up a baked potato, right? That potato had been sitting on a steam table literally for days. It's supposed to be white and fluffy. It was very dark beige, mealy, soggy, wrapped in aluminum foil that had been slit. There were specs of aluminum in the potato. Ew. The "butter" was just oil, and they put a small shred of cheese on it, not even visible. No bacon, had to ask for that. And the gross disgusting flavor was like they doused it in liquid smoke. It was truly the worst potato I've ever had in my life. Partner had meat, he said it was mostly fat. They were out of French fries, so he had "potato casserole" which is just boxed mashed potatoes. Workers - they were BLASTING Christian music and one of the guys was singing along. Loudly. Like an American Idol performance. It was so loud we couldn't talk so we just got out of there ASAP. Please don't subject me to your religious shit or amateur performances while I spend $40 to eat. Cleanliness - disgusting. Everything. On the plus side, the girl behind the counter was fairly friendly and the place was much cleaner than when I tried Dickey's in the Valley previously. Prices seem to have gone up, which I felt were too high before. Rolls are worse than before, dry and taste frozen three weeks ago. Brisket also dry and fairly bland. I can see why the girl at the counter made a point to remind me to get some of the barbeque sauce before I left. I could get better barbecue at so many places in Spokane, and for cheaper. Not saying the other places are good, but for the price I am paying I expect brisket to not be dry and grainy, and you would think the rolls would be made in the same day period, not 30 day period. I have heard this chain started in Texas. Just like the Roman Empire, the father you get away from Rome, the less like Rome things are. What I can't understand is the location up north does a really good job. What exactly is going on that two locations in the same general area are so different. I wanted to love this location as much as I fell in love with the one in Dallas. Sadly, lunch today was a huge, and slightly expensive, flop. I ordered: Full Rack of Ribs- they were fall off the bone tender, but the flavor was not it. 1/5 Side of Coleslaw- This was delicious! 5/5 Side of Mac n Cheese- Great texture, not much flavor. 3/5. Soda- PERFECT 5/5 for mix of carbonation to flavor syrup. It was absolutely refreshing and so good. Service- I only had contact with the girl in the drive through- she was delightful. 5/5. I was craving BBQ so so so much and this was kind of a let down. I may go back to try a different meat option in the future. read more

the food, well, if that is all that matters... it is the best barbeque in town. the ambience, it has a very small papa shop vibe. service, while not busy as it seems to be a neglected TREASURE Of Spokane Valley, it' service is wonderful. but, i cannot comment as to when it is busy. i have never seen it busy. but i can tell you, coming from Texas where beef is cooked to perfection in most establishments, it's the best brisket in town. sorry longhorn bbq, they just do it better. they had me taste test their chili... i went back for seconds. and i will be recommending this place highly from now on. read more
