This place is borderline a scam, I ordered the "premium plate" which came with a sizable Beef rib (without the bone btw) and two sides. Bare in mind that this was 33$ with tax, You get a single beef rib and the sides came in the smallest containers I've ever seen a restaurant use for a side, they were as tall as two dimes standing upright (and thats not an over exaggeration). Chicken wings are one of those craveable finger foods that everyone, well, craves once in a while. Sometimes we recall good wings: big, fresh-tasting, juicy, savory, flavorful, crispy, and other palatable adjectives. Unfortunately, the wings I ordered from Dickey's today did not achieve any of these descriptors. In fact, the 2 wings I ate before offering the rest to Gaia via farmer's field, tasted like they were old - really old - and stale, fried to death, but somehow still avoiding any measure of crispiness, then lightly sprinkled with the least amount of sauce one can use and still call them "sauced." I had lunch at Dickeys the other day. It was about 12:30 height of lunch hour. I ordered the brisket plate. The order came to the table quite quickly. Well there wasn't much on the plate. The portions were quite small maybe a third of a cup of almost lukewarm greasy and very fatty brisket a small cold dinner roll almost warm beans again not quite a 1/4 of a cup some of the thinnest French Fries I had ever seen. The best part of my meal was the Diet Coke this was the only thing that was the correct temperature. When I posted my original review the owner responded with all the usual dribble. While looking back at other responses I noticed that the owners response was a cut and paste of his previous responses. He couldn't blame being busy as there were only 3 other patrons. I've had a chance to try out their food multiple time since they opened up. I was initially overwhelmed with the options, it was a bit confusing to choose what would be good as I never had Dickey's before and seeing as this was a great halal option close to my home I wanted to try it out. Since the opening I have noticed a steady increase in both quality of the food and the service provided by the owners. Whenever I have gone in I am greeted with a friendly face and enjoy talking them about what they also enjoy from the menu. I also noticed they have slowly added multiple different options to the menu like the poutine, chili and sausage options. Which has all been really delicious! I personally love the way they prepare the French fries and the spicy chili adds such a great flavor to the meal. I've normally ordered the brisket or beef rib plate with two sides, the meat is tender and their signature BBQ sauce adds to the dish so well. I prefer the mash potatoes and beans for the sides as the smoky flavour makes it taste great and very filling. These days my order will always include the chili! Highly recommend! read more

A couple of months ago I saw that a new bbq restaurant was opening up in Barrhaven. It just so happened we were going to be out that way and noticed it was open. I have eaten in a couple of chain bbq restaurants in the US and some non-chain bbq places in Texas, so I was looking forward to another option for bbq in the Ottawa area. On walking in, the front counter is pretty typical, order at one end, pick up at the other, and the prices were pretty typical. We ate in and food was delivered on a steel tray, not unlike what I have seen in the US. The tables were adequate; however, there were no additional sauces available just the little container that came with the meal (which was tasty, I just prefer a bit more spice). I could see the staff carving the brisket and it looked like it had a nice bark to it. I ordered the Competition plate which came with brisket and burnt ends along with two sides. I picked the Barbeque Beans and Mac and Cheese. The beans were tasty and nicely spiced. The Mac and cheese was creamy and ok, not very flavourful. My biggest disapptment was with the meat. The brisket, while tender and easily pulled apart, was dry and felt overcooked. The burnt ends were very dry and tough. Both meats had decent flavour, but very understated. It may be because it's opening weekend and they are getting the kinks out, so I'll give them a pass and try them again in a few months to see if it has improved. read more

I have now been to Dickey's 3 times and each time left a very happy customer. The brisket was great each time and I was also impressed with the french fries (as most restaurants don't make good french fries). I have introduced this location to many and they all thanked me later and have "passed the word" on. There food is a very nice change from just having a hamburger! And to add to my reference, the staff is great and nice people! So I don't write reviews very often, but I will be continue to be a customer at this location and invite you to try it to. Went here last weekend after seeing that the reviews have improved since they've opened so I decided to give them a shot. Ordered a brisket sandwiche with coleslaw. Got my sandwich and went home to enjoy. Only to be disappointed by the single teaspoon of coleslaw that was actually put on. I checked my bill to confirm that it was requested and ended only to see that I was charged for a small side dish of something I only got a TEASPOON of. After the discovery of the first disappointment I went on to try giving the brisket itself a far shot. I found the meat just to be dry and lacked the smokiness and flavour bomb I was expecting from "Real Texas BBQ". Needless to say won't be coming back and will instead pay for a flight to Texas wait in line hours before opening for the REAL REAL stuff. read more

The food was honestly really good, I got a sandwich with brisket cheese and caramelized onion with a dip for the sandwich. Only gripe was that they were a tad cheap with the dip. Otherwise great. Similar consensus with the brisket sandwich. Great but not a lot of sauce read more

It's the first time I've visited this restaurant with my little family, and we were more than satisfied, everything was excellent: the staff were very warm, smiling, welcoming, attentive and met all our needs and orders. I have never been able to find a good BBQ restaurant in Ottawa. That's why I ended up dolling out 5 grand for a pit of my own to make real bbq. but when I don't want to shell out $100 for a whole brisket and spend 18 hours to smoke it, it would be great to have a restaurant that I could get a brisket sandwich from when I get that bbq craving. This restaurant isn't one of those. I ordered their 3 meat plate through DoorDash for the first time. I got a side of coleslaw and baked beans as well. For the meat, I got a serving of bbq chicken breast and 2 servings of brisket. The portions were small. More like lunch size. The chicken was very tender but tasteless and a bit salty. I think it was because it was brined to make it so tender but salty. It definitely was not bbq'd. The brisket meat was a good grade with good fat content and cooked tender and juicy and was point meat as well but again, it wasn't bbq. It wasn't smoky at all and I didn't see a hint of a smoke ring. I think it was just steamed or wrapped and slow roasted. This isn't bbq. As for the coleslaw, it was ground cabbage with a bit of carrot and a gross dressing that was slimy. I think it had corn starch in it. It wasn't eatable. The beans, however were really good. I really enjoyed them but that was the only thing I liked for the $28. But again the portion was small. read more
