I had the pleasure of seeing the amazing and extremely talented Brian Curry last week while on vacation with my family of 10. We were so lucky because the other group of 14 that was scheduled to see the show with us had to cancel so we had our own private magic show. First and foremost, from the road you can't tell what an amazing theater they have. Do NOT judge a book by it's cover. This place is the absolute coolest. Brian engaged all of us to participate including having some of us up on stage to assist. He was hilarious and every trick was fantastic! It was an amazing experience that was the highlight of our vacation. Forget Funland, forget the Boardwalk, Dickens Parlour Theater is THE place for family fun. 5 stars for the theater. 3 stars for the restaurant. Highly recommend whatever performer is at the theater. We saw a mentalist who was great! It's a small/intimate experience, fewer than one hundred seats. I don't really recommend the restaurant if you're dining before the show. We arrived promptly for a 5:45 reservation. Our server asked if we were seeing the show (which started at 7), and we confirmed that we were. We placed our order and the food finally came out at 6:45. No time for a leisurely dinner. While everything tasted pretty good, the food wasn't hot. The manager comped our drinks because we had to rush through our meal, which we appreciated. Friends we were with said that was the second time they've had slow service there. Maybe they need more help in the kitchen, I'm not sure. read more

Great new facility. Intimate theater, not a bad seat in the place. Many shows combine a ding add on. Makes the evening a no brainer.

I made another visit to this hidden gem to see Harry Anderson of Night Court fame. The evening was a blast as we laughed till our sides split listening to Harry's jokes. This was a charity event for Habitat for Humanity that Harry Anderson was headlining. While we did not see Harry's magic acts we did get to hear outrageously funny comedy. This is a sensational venue. You can see world class magic acts and then catch dinner at Steakhouse 26 across the street. There are big plans for expanding this unique, one of a kind concept. The theater is close to Bethany and Rehoboth, both heavily travelled in the summer. This will be a must stop for the summer crowd. Only 2-3 hours from DC, Phili and Baltimore. Combine a visit to this unique theater with a weekend getaway to this beautiful area anytime during the year. read more

We went last night for an evening show and it was great. We especiaľy liked the possibilty to bring kids as the show was an hour and that is the max they could last. Audience participates in the show so that also makes it much more fun. Kids and also adults (from our group) all loved it and after the show we stayed for more magic in the dining area which was very informal and very nice. So we spent in total 2hrs there and had blast. Hmmm... Dickens has moved to a brand new, but equally charming building on Rt 26 behind the Good Earth Market. It is WONDERFUL! We just saw a Broadway performer last night who knocked our socks off. Now, you can buy a delicious full dinner before the show if you want to. Drinks can be carried into the theater. (Try the Houdini Bellini Martini or the Sazarac.) We love everything about this theater, including the wonderful owners and staff, who have created this treasure in our little community. I think this is one of the most interesting places in the world. I've never been to such a unique theatre with great character. I've seen a few shows here and all are outstanding. The owner and people who work there, make this place just an incredible destination to go to. I don't want to ruin the experience for anyone but you have to come see a show here if you're in the area. They only host world class performers and it has always been a memorable experience. In the actual theater, the seats are the most comfortable seats that i have ever been in. Can't wait to come to Dicken's again, it is fun for the whole family. read more

This was a very entertaining group activity for one night during our vacation. Our group enjoyed it, but as I write this, I realize that no one was talking about it after the evening. It's in a charming theater that is comfortable with a sloped set of seats so that ALL SEATS ARE GREAT. They make an effort to seat groups together. You are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy free popcorn in the Parlour. (Drinks are extra and can be carried into the theatre.) Nice theater memorabilia (Piper Laurie!) and tables so that groups can enjoy each other. It was $130 for our group of five -- no senior discounts or children discounts due to the fact we were there during the tourist season. The show lasted little over an hour. read more

Dickens Parlour Theatre is the best hidden gem at the beach! My family and I have been coming to Bethany for the past 4 years and just discovered it. It's set back amongst trees and may not look like much from the road but looks can be deceiving. It has an elegant, old-school Vaudeville feel to it. The theatre is intimate and nicely maintained. I applaud the performers even more since they are doing magic pretty up close. We saw Mark Phillips, who was amazingly talented and also funny. Adults will enjoy just as much as the kids! After the performance you can partake of desserts and drinks next door in the parlour. Prices are reasonable (in my opinion) for the menu items, as well as the performance. They do not have their own kitchen, so a company brings in the food. The chocolate cake was very rich but good. My husband had peanut butter pie that he really enjoyed. The performer came out to do another trick while there, and the assistant manager, who is a hoot, also performed some tricks. Everyone we encountered was welcoming and great to talk to. We will definitely be returning in the future! Dickens Parlour Theatre is a special, one-of-a-kind, not to be missed experience. read more

I took my family to see Bob Sheets at the Dickens Parlour Theater in Bethany, Beach, DE and we had a ball! My 5-year son got to help on stage and LOVED the show - we stayed for close-up magic afterwards! Highly recommended for families at the beach! Make sure to call well ahead - even before you travel to the beach - for tickets as it's small (only about 50 seats). They do take credit cards, even at the door. Desserts and soft drinks are extra during the after party, but it's such fun to stay and meet the performer. They told me they plan to have souvenirs, magi books and magic sets to sell soon. Oh, yes, they also do children's' birthday parties - I'm not sure of the details; you'll want to call. read more

Wow! It doesnt look like much from the road, but it is definately worth the visit. We went for the first time, and it was sooo much more than I expected. They had a magician, Andrew Goldenhersch, and he was really great. It's an intimate venue, maybe 50 seats, so you are right up close and personal with the act. The show is about an hour to an hour and a half, and then they have an after show where you get to meet and talk with the magician or artist, whatever the talent was that evening. I took two of my sons to see the incomparable Rich Bloch, the owner of Dickens Parlour Theater (I recommend googling his name; he's a complete master in two career disciplines; a fascinating person). They loved it. It definitely will have an impact on their lives, of the "I remember when I saw ..." variety when they're older. It was absolutely amazing. When we weren't laughing, our jaws were dropping. It was mind-blowing. Wow! (And I'm the type of person who is reluctant to use exclamation points.) Double wow!! (OK, that was a bit excessive.) Incredibly experience!! This is a must visit attraction in Bethany Beach. I cant believe I have been coming for years and just found this hidden gem. Truly a cozy feeling and atmosphere both in the theater and the waiting area before the show where you can order drinks and desserts (and free popcorn!). The staff could not have been more accommodating and friendly! We were a little late on getting tickets but they did everything they could to seat my girlfriend and I together and make the night a great experience. The magic was unbelievable as well! What a gem. Last of a dying breed. This is what you expect a magic show to be. We saw Bruce Gold; he was very funny and entertaining. There were some tricks that were really amazing. The theater is small, but comfortable; all seats in the house have a really good view. Excellent for kids: we brought our 4-5 year olds and it was just the right length of time: 45 minutes. They were captivated the entire show and talked about it for days afterwards. Tickets sell out most summer nights, book in advance. We didn't stay for food or drinks afterward, but I am sure it is nice. The greeter and the owner (who spoke at the beginning of the show) were very nice and funny too. On our last day of vacation we experienced unfortunate weather. We had 3 restless adults & 3 bored children and needed something to take our minds off the torrential downpour caused by tropical stormAndrea. While searching online for local points of interest I stumbled upon the Dickens Parlour Theatre. We opted to attend the magic show (no dinner prior to the show) and were pleasantly surprised on how entertaining it was for all ages (our party ranged in ages from 45-4). One of the most unique & intimate parts of the evening was the table side magic tricks performed over coffee & dessert. We were told this magical parlour is one of only two left in the nation & the 50 seat room was an experience in and of itself. We have attended 2 shows in the past week. The entertaimnent has been outstanding . It is a hidden gem which most people do not know about . We have been coming to Bethany for over 30 years and never attended the show. We were informed about this by a friend that works there. It is an intimate theater and the performers involve the audience into their show. After the show you can go back to the palour and the entertainers personally come to your table and continue the magic. My sister was visiting last weekend with her 10 year old daughter and attended the matinee which is held on raining days. She LOVED the show and wanted to go back that night . We go to Bear Trap on a regular basis and found this amazing place over the New Year's weekend. It seems a little crazy at first - after all this is a small theater at the back of a house but the theater is spectacular. It only holds a small audience so I would call first to make sure they have tickets. If they do, snap them up. The show we saw featured an Israeli mentalist by the name of Asi Wind. The smallness of the theater meant that the audience was an integral part of the show - and what a show it was. Asi Wind must be one of the best magicians around. His presentation skills are incredible and one is left wondering how he manages to perform some of his tricks. Overall an excellent evening was enjoyed by all. I hope they bring Asi Wind back for more shows - but regardless I will be going back the next time we are at Bethany. read more

We have kids and they love, love, love Dickens Parlour Theatre. The first show we saw was John Cassidy, the amazing balloon magician - and the parents were laughing as hard as the kids. It is the BEST thing to do on a rainy day at Bethany Beach, but don't wait for a rainy day to call them up!
