Nice exhibit on the Rehoboth Beach Patrol with a neat slide show of photos.

Bottom Line: A small and quaint museum telling the history of Rehoboth Beach. I initially tried to visit this museum in the Fall of 2020 but it was closed due to the pandemic. After watching some of their content online I was even more eager to visit and when I finally did visit in September 2021 it didn't disappoint. We were warmly welcomed and given a quick overview of the museum. From there was I was off to explore the exhibits which start with the first inhabitants of the area - the Nanticoke Native Americans. The museum literature explains that Rehoboth later became a popular area for religious retreats and eventually, with help of the railroad, Rehoboth started to grow into a thriving resort town with fancy hotels, fun amusement parks and a festive boardwalk. I enjoyed looking at the many artifacts in this museum like the collection of historic bathing suits and trinkets from various restaurants. The exhibits on historic lifesaving stations, the Cape Henlopen lighthouse and modern day lifesaving were also neat. We did not get to see the diorama entitled The Railroad Era: The Golden Age of Rehoboth Beach since it was no longer on display as part of the museum. As a railroad enthusiast I would have loved to seen it but at least I got to check out some of the videos about it online. The museum is located in an old ice house and has its own parking lot. The parking lot is metered but I believe the museum validates the parking somehow. As of mid-September 2021 masks were required. The museum is free but donations are appreciated and in my opinion well earned. Overall I really enjoyed this museum!

After being in this area multiple times and driving by this each of those times, I finally made it…read morea point to stop in. I honestly had no idea what this was until I decided to make a stop. In fact, when I pulled into the parking area I wasn't sure where to park as there are signs stating something about permits. I will say, and this is my only gripe about this place, is the price of admission. I think it's a bit high for what you are getting. But I guess you need to pay the bills for this. This place kind of takes you back in time. See, back before this area had roads connecting to each other and when shipping was a huge thing, they had to have patrols that would make sure everything was ok. These patrols would head out to save people on the high seas when the high seas were less than cooperative. Kind of a precursor of the Coast Guard. This location is on the National Registry of Historic Places. This was a quick museum visit, but that is partly because I was impatient and didn't want to use the video tour. They do have a tour where you call in and type in a code for an exhibit and it would give you the information, but you can also read a lot of it within on the information placards next to the items. Points of interest is the house itself, living quarters, equipment used and the highlight is the access to the beach. It's amazing to think that men, year after year, would come here and serve time protecting people. It was some really tight quarters and they never knew what the seas might hold for them. Tip, be careful if you head out to the beach. I had taken my sandals off to walk into the sand and something jabbed my toe. That made for a quick return for me. Before you do head back get a look at the view. It is beautiful.

Very Interesting site near the beach with free parking. The price was very reasonable. First, they…read morehave you watch a brief film about the history of the site. Then you proceed to the main house where the rescuers lived and you're able to see and touch everything, which is amazing to me- there are very few things in cases. There is a number you can dial to hear a narration about a specific object or area of the house as you walk thru. The gift shop is full of lovely trinkets and they have bathrooms, which is very convenient for roadtrippers like myself. Great for everyone but small kids will need to be watched to ensure they don't grab and break anything, and that they don't fall down the narrow staircase.

Date of Visit: July 30, 2025…read more This was an unplanned stop on my road trip from Florida and what a surprise this place was. As I was going from Rehoboth Beach to New Castle I was wanting to take RT 9 north off the beaten path. As I was coming to the RT1/9 split I had traffic in front and behind and they seem to be in a hurry, Neil wasn't. So I pulled off the road at this place to let everyone by. As I came in thru the entrance the sign read "Free Museum" I says to myself "FREE" I need to check it out and glad I did... As I walked inside you have a really nice gift shop that you need to explore and support. The volunteers working were the best. Not sure where to start but as you enter the main area it is just loaded with WWII, Korean and Vietnam displays. Ever wonder how those belly and tail gunners worked, there is a display for that. I know I could not have done it. There is even a mock-up control tower to explore and listen to the base tower giving commands. On my visit I was able to see a C130 take off from the tower. If your ever in the area this is a must stop, especially if your a history buff. And at the end, please give these people a donation for a job well done. Peace.

Thank you to the staff here, as so friendly, knowledgeable, and great service all around. Inside the World War 2 planes are phenomenal. Skytrain. Aviation fans will know that. You can walk in several planes, including a former Air Force 2, C130 Hercules, and C141 Starlifter. Soon they will have an A10 Warthog. The F101 and F106's were great to see, and will admit sensory overload. So many great planes, and also the former air traffic control tower were top notch. You'll want to go here. Donations appreciated but no admission cost!
