I'm a bit overdue on this review, but better late than never. I took my sister and our nieces for a Full Moon Cruise on 8/12/2022. It was a 90 minute cruise from 9:15pm - 10:45pm, it was awesome! The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. I really liked that they allow you to bring dogs onboard. I didn't bring my 2 girls but may in the future. We cruised along the bay and was given some great information about the area and the lighthouse. The full moon was just perfect! The only thing that I didn't like was the red light on the boat as it made taking pictures of us on the boat horrible. A very nice outing and I truly recommend it! My husband and I went on the sunset cruise. Originally we were booked for Sunday, but at time of check in, our name was not on the list. My reservation was confirmed with an email, which I presented. They were very apologetic and really worked to get us on the boat. Thank goodness it all worked out. Captain Mike and deck hand Mike were top notch. Captain Mike definitely earned the title of dolphin whisperer. We saw quite a few dolphins on our trip. Though there were glimpses of a beautiful sunset, the trip all around was well worth it. We've cruised with Cape Water Tours and Taxi a few times every year we've been in Lewes. It's always a great time. This week we were lucky enough to find out they were doing an end of they year "thank you" cruise this week. Monday night's full moon cruise was gorgeous. The weather was great for November (68), crew was awesome and, get this, the cruise was complimentary! The prices are always reasonable, but free? These guys are the best. If you haven't done so, check them out. Go with friends, get a table together, bring some adult beverages and a jacket for the bay breezes then sit back and enjoy the sites - heron, dolphins, lighthouses, sunsets, moonrises. This is easily the best activity we've experienced in Lewes. read more

We went on the dolphin cruise and there was lots to see.. TONS of dolphins, lighthouses, and birds. There's a cove you just hang out in and the dolphins are everywhere. If you sit long enough they come right up close to the boat. The crew also gives you lots of facts about the area and the dolphins. They are willing to answer any questions and have some good stories too. It was a great experience and great for kids. read more

My husband and I went on the seal watch excursion, and it was fantastic! The crew does an amazing job! They pointed out where the seals were on the ice breakers, and even turned the engines off and drifted a bit in a few areas to make sure everyone had the opportunity to see, and photograph (if you had a lens capable to do so). We were visiting Rehoboth and Georgetown for a week when my wife said "let's go see the dolphins!" On our last trip to DE we tent camped in Cape Henlopen state park where she was floating in the water and dolphins were only a few feet away. Ever since then I think she's been enamored with them. The boat is fairly large and can hold around 80 people. My wife accidentally scheduled for the wrong week, but the crew was able to accommodate her mix up and fit us in on the cruise (big thanks to them for making it happen!). They are very generous with the time. It isn't like "we drove you out and back, so you only have 30 minutes to see dolphins". It felt like we were out watching dolphins for the whole 90 minutes, the whole trip being a little over 2 hours. The boat can be a little shaky, so bring some ginger or Dramamine if you tend to get seasick with rocking. A boat flew by during our trip and really made things sway. Our captain did the best he could, but between the added waves and the already choppy waters, we were shaking side to side enough to where you could definitely feel it. If I could make any recommendation it would be for the crew to sell snacks while on the water. We packed a picnic lunch (our tour happened at 12, so the kids were expecting food), but I imagine our fellow guests would have bought at least some food if offered. That might mean they wouldn't allow outside food to be brought onboard, so it's probably a tradeoff. We'd prefer to pack our own food, but having the option for say a drink or some ice cream would have been tempting. Parking was free in the Lewes ferry terminal for foot passengers and the boat was a short walk from the parking lot (near the playground). Crew members were happy to engage with riders and the captain provided narration and tidbits where appropriate. Next time we're hanging around Lewes, we'll be sure to check out what other cruises they offer. read more

I have heard about Cape Water Tours and the taxi service they provide by water, but I had never used them before. Recently, friends came to visit from California and I booked us a sunset boat tour. Unfortunately, and of course this is beyond the control of the business, the weather turned bad just within the last 45 minutes or so before our tour left. My friends were wearing jackets but they had no hoods or hats. It became obvious very shortly into the boat ride that my friend on the far outside seat was getting pummeled with water and was very uncomfortable. I volunteered to change places with her because I had a jacket with a hood AND a hat. Even so, it got cold and I still had some spraying in my face unless we were going very slow or at a stop. The crew was great and very pleasant. Their website says tips are appreciated and there is a jar right where you get on and off the boat where you can drop a tip. We did so on our way off the boat. Once The Boat leaves the canal, it goes into high speed and this is where you get splashed a lot (same with going back to the canal from The Point). I realize they're trying to fit a lot into the 90 minutes of the tour, but personally, I would rather be a bit more comfortable and see a little bit less. We really only saw two lighthouses, some porpoises playing and The Point. The friend I had change places with noted that there was a lot of water coming up the side of the boat, which is what I was getting in the face. I would just recommend to slow down a little bit, especially when conditions are already a little rough (it had been raining slightly when we left port). Another option would be to recommend on the website that people wear raincoats and hats so that they are prepared for what they may get. I felt bad for people in front of us and beside us who were not dressed at all for what was happening. They were great Sports about it though! If I would do this tour again, I would sit further back on the boat and see if the spray problem may be better back there. NOTE: They reserve all the seats that have tables for large groups, therefore limiting those who, like us, only had a few in their party to either the front or the back of the boat (because I am mobility-impaired, we chose the front). In closing, this review is not meant to bash the company at all. However, I do think a couple of minor changes could be made to make the tour a lot more comfortable and enjoyable, when the weather is not perfect. read more

We recently tried to go on the Sunset tour from Lewes. Unfortunately they canceled the trip at the last minute so we didn't get to experience it at all. They had a ship break down, so it wasnt their fault. We all know that happens. I just was a little frustrated with how they handled the situation. They let us know about half an hour before the tour was supposed to start boarding that we would be leaving at 7 instead of 6:30. I replied to the message(as instructed) to tell them we would still be attending and were already on our way. She replied back and said "We will begin boarding at 6:45pm. See you soon!" So we got there early and were waiting just outside the dock by where they would board for the next half an hour. Then out of the blue we got a text saying unfortunately our tour had been canceled because of a ship malfunction. But then a Cape May ship pulls up and everyone around us starts lining up for it. I asked them if they were waiting for the sunset tour and they said yes. So we waited in line with them, thinking maybe our text was a mistake. Well it turns out all the people waiting around with us (blocking the sign and the entrance to the ship shop btw) had already checked in for the tour. We didn't know to do that. I guess I misunderstood her response thinking we shouldn't try to board until 6:45 (a previous tour we'd done at a different place had been very rude about anyone trying to check in or board early so we were wary about that) but apparently you can check in very early here (AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO). I really think that should be made clearer to people, because we came from about 3 hours away for the tour, and so it will be a long time before we can come back. It's the first time either of us had seen the ocean, and we booked months ahead so we were really excited. They did give us a refund for the trip and a gift card and most of the people were really nice about it, I just felt hurt that we were outside the shop for half an hour and I told her we were coming about 50 minutes before the ship left and no one cared. The general manager also was unnecessarily rude about the situation. She told all of us we could go wait to be on standby in case other people gave up their seats or didn't show up on time, so I went into the office to do so. The girl in the shop was very kind and was helping me. And then the manager came in and said "what are you doing this is *called me by name* we already canceled her tour." I'd never met her before. Never talked to her before. So I have no idea how she knew exactly who I was just by looking at me. I also don't know why she was so adamant about keeping us off the tour because she went out of her way to help another family understand the situation and work through it. I did say to her "oh I thought you just said we could be put on stand-by or is that everyone else except us?" And she just kind of mumbled and went to help the girl find our reservation. It was very awkward and felt personal. Every single employee also came to talk to us for like 20 minutes each to explain how they never saw this coming and how it wasn't their fault. Which as I said, I do get, but it definitely didn't help me feel better about the situation. The whole thing just really made me sad. We had been looking forward to the experience for months. And I just wish they would have talked to those of us waiting right by the loading dock for such a long time to make sure we all checked in, or would have considered the fact that I did communicate with her that we were on our way nearly an hour before as a sign that we had obviously been there for a while. And since apparently she knew me by sight, maybe could have acknowledged the fact that we were there waiting for just as long as the others. There are some really cool tours we want to try out. But I am worried about the drive if they are just going to cancel again. At least most of them tried to help once they cancelled. I guess this time We will just arrive an hour early and CHECK IN IMMEDIATELY. read more

We just took the 'Floating thru the Maritime History' tour on the Cape Water Taxi - and it was SO informative and interesting! We live here and learned so many new facets about the history of our town and the many events and historical figures involved. The Narrator was excellent! He made history come alive and pointed out so many spots along the canal that related to his stories. Fun morning! And, as always, the Captain and Crew were fabulous! read more

Took the shorter Dolphin Watching tour do to time constraints. Dolphins were found in abundance very quickly. The tour was postponed to later in the day due to heavy chop and we were alerted well ahead of time via text. Tour also included some facts about the Lewes harbor area and the ocean life. This is a great trip for the kids--some even got a chance to "captain" the boat. Crew was friendly and eager to help. Can bring snacks and even a beer from the nearby restaurant if desired. Might get a bit cold so a light jacket is helpful. Cape Water Tours is exactly as advertised. read more

My family took their ecological tour as part of our vacation and we had a lot of fun. The tour was very informative and enjoyable. The marsh is beautiful and the birds, fish, and crabs that live their are interesting and fun to spot. Our naturalist knew the marsh very well and gave us great information on the blue crabs, eagles, blue herons, and ospreys we saw as well as the marsh grass and mussels that make the marsh such a great water cleaning area. My only note would be our naturalist might want to practice throwing the net she was trying to use to fish up wildlife examples for us. She was having some issues with it but it didn't really hurt the experience. We would definitely consider doing more tours with them. read more
