The website noted that the fishing conditions weren't prime yet, due to currents of some sort. But as we were a group of total newbies, we were just as excited about going out onto the ocean far from shore as we were to discover fishing. The charter departed right on time. We went to several spots to fish and everyone caught at least one fish - we think we had a ringer with us, judging by the 6 fish she caught. We hooked a flounder but it was undersize and had to be returned to the ocean. You can take your fish home and clean them yourself or walk over to the shop and have them clean the fish for you for a very small fee. This was a lot of fun and we enjoyed eating our fresh fish quite a bit.

The atmosphere and ambiance inside and out is breathtaking and full of so much character and legacy. The ocean is right at your feet and along with the charming service and view, I felt ready to remain the rest of the day. Please come give this place a shot. This is a hidden spot in Delaware and its so beautiful. You won't find many people here but you will find your perfect quiet place whether kayaking, biking, crabbing, hiking, or swimming ( public boat ramp). The observation tower is the best view of the Assawoman Bay and wildlife . You will see lots of bald eagles, river otters, giant woodpeckers , blue heron, egrets. SMH why all those cars are sitting in traffic to go to the beach when you can go to the bay ? It's completely free ...lots of fishing and crabbing , sailing , paddle boarding and don't forget to bring the dogs because they are allowed here!

It's a smaller State park and slightly confusing with the direction's but the staff was helpful just get a map. We camped in a "walk back" section of E. Very spacious sites with the bathroom/shower reasonably close. Parking was "ok"..... but they fill up and then you have to use overflow. The bathrooms/showers were clean BUT I guess I'm used to sites that spray repellent because nature is boss. We drove through the comfort sites of D and they were too tight for my liking. They have yurts and cabins but for me a tad too close. They do have an Island camp site Loved it!!!!! That's a must do. It's 2 sites across a short walking bridge with water view and access. I would definitely go back.

One thing I don't understand is why the Park Maintenance people don't cut the Wisteria growth on the trees? Some trees have vines over two inches in diameter. This stuff will choke a tree to death over time! Great walk ... very pretty sights. Fall colors will make it a much nicer walk!

It was an absolute joy. I would've recommend this to anyone. Even the trails that were rocky that go outback through the woods we did on a street bike no problem. They seem to be very well-maintained trails. At one point you had the super long bridge that goes over a swampy area, which is really cool too. On the way up on the trail, we saw a turtle crossing the trail on the way back. We saw but I assume is the same turtle taking a hole with his back legs. I don't know why I spent my whole life going to the Jersey shore. You drive an extra hour. You could come down here and have a super nice beach that's not packed and the super nice trails that you can bicycle too.

The Maurice River may be too fast for kayaking. I never found out. I paddled inside the impoundments. Decent experience. You get a great view of an osprey's nest, and they let you know that you are not wanted. Some of the lagoon or whatever it is, is shallow and gross. People are fishing and crabbing in this water and some are grumpy when you get near their traps. Lots of dragonflies when I went in July but par for the course. Not sure I would go back.

We brought in a rod and he set my son up with bait, the right hooks, sinker and some kind of set up in the line and told us where to go for fishing and crabbing. It turned out the line my son had on his rod was dry rotted and we lost the line. We then went back a second time got it relined and new hook and set up on it and back we went.
