I saw Dr. Diane Kwan in June 2025 for a suspected hernia above my belly button. She diagnosed an umbilical hernia and confirmed it with an ultrasound, which clearly identified the hernia in the exact area where I had pain and a visible bulge. She performed surgery in October 2025, but I received no post-op communication from Dr. Kwan. I had to proactively call with concerns when the bulge remained. At my follow-up, the issue was still present, and a CT scan later confirmed the hernia had not been repaired. Dr. Kwan then admitted she had repaired a different hernia during surgery and missed the one that was originally diagnosed and causing my symptoms. I was never informed before or after surgery that the correct hernia had not been addressed or that a new/different one was present. I only learned this weeks later after raising concerns myself. My spouse recently had surgery with Dr. Diane Kwan. What should have been a 1-1.5 hour procedure ended up taking over 3 hours. I received a call from a nurse after my husband was out of the OR, but we received absolutely no communication from the surgeon afterward. No call. No explanation. No update. No check-ins. Even for a routine procedure, a simple common courtesy call is standard practice. To completely disregard this is extremely unprofessional. I reached out to the surgeons clinical team, spoke with nurses, medical assistants, and a clinic manager, yet Dr. Kwan STILL never bothered to contact us. This isn't just about poor communication but a lack of basic respect. Patients should not be treated like cattle but we certainly were. There was no consideration for patient well-being or peace of mind from the surgeon. A simple, 30-60 second, respectful post-op call is the bare minimum. I fully recommend Dr Kwan she is very compassionate and friendly. The appointments u have are never rushed. She explains everything even the complications that can happen. I have lost 127 lbs since December 2019. She gives you all the tools and references you need to loose the weight. She also has video appointments for those that are scared to go in the office due to Covid. After loosing over 100 lbs I got a tattoo to celebrate my weight loss. I don't even know where to being with this review. Dr. Diane Kwan is truly an amazing doctor. I had my first appointment via video chat in early September of 2020. Our first meeting was full of information and expectations. She took her time and didn't rush the call. She went over my needs and what she expected from me to get me to where I needed to be for my Gastric Bypass Surgery. She gave me a list of things that I needed to complete before our next video visit. As directed by Dr. Kwan everything was completed in a months time. Everything she has you do is part of the journey. Everything has a reason for doing it. I had a game plan and I stayed focused on the Path Dr. Kwan set for me. My 14 year old son actually asked me to give Dr. Kwan a 5 star review! After his surgery, he said to me; "Mom you should give her a good review because she was really good!" Mom was happy and son was happy. So, here it goes.... I had already seen another surgeon, but didn't get good vibes on that one and decided to get a second opinion. At a CPR course with other doctors, I asked if anyone knew a surgeon with good clinical skills that does hernia repairs. Her name came up, so among surgeons, she is a known quantity. When we went in for our consultation, there was very minimal wait at Epic Care (we all know how long medical offices can make you wait for appointments). The staff was polite and professional as was Doctor Kwan at our initial appointment. Dr. Kwan has great bedside manners-great communication skills! She explained everything to us and our son. Her surgical/financial coordinator was easy to get a hold of to make arrangements for scheduling and finances. On the day of the surgery, we went to their Aspen surgical facilty located right next door to John Muir. The nurses and anesthesiologist were super friendly and helpful to us parents and very accommodating to our son. After the surgery, the nurses made sure our son was as comfortable as possible. Over the recovering week, the nurses called our home and sent our son a get well card personally signed by the staff which I thought was a nice touch. Dr Kwan did exploratory surgery on me in march and by April I had no pain. She had found adhesions in me which were causing tremendous pain. Not sure how my experience wasn't anywhere near these reviews. Dr Kwan did not provide a binder after my abdominal surgery. I wasn't aware til her follow up 3 weeks later that I was even supposed to have one. She knew the surgery center didn't provide them and didn't provide one herself or even tell me to have one ready. If she would have checked in soon after the surgery I would have have known sooner and perhaps my healing would have been quicker. I ended up with 2 blood clots in my leg and when I called her and left a message it took her 2 days to call back, Then later I had stomach cramping and it took her 3 days to respond. In the meantime my primary care doctor took care of both of these issues. Terrible after care on Dr Kwan's part. Thankfully the office staff tried to help or I would have given her a 1. I have no complaints with them. Unfortunately they can't make her do her part. Will not ever use her again or recommend her. read more

I had a gastric sleeve done last year by Dr. Kwan. It was done with a robot so there was very little scaring and almost no pain. I only spent one night in the hospital. I stopped the pain pills two days later. It was much easier and less painful than I expected. Dr. Kwan did an amazing surgery very quickly, just over an hour. Dr. Kwan removed my Gallbladder in late April. She and her staff fit me in quickly even though there were no standard appointments available for several weeks. She took time to explain the process to me. She and her staff and surgery team were very professional, helpful, friendly and reassuring. I had a bit of an ugly scar that a previous Dr. had left on my belly button and Dr. Kwan fixed it when she finished so I actually came out looking better than when I went in. Dr. Kwan performed hernia repair surgery on me on 12/6/18. I was in and out of John Muir Concord in about half a day. Everything went very smoothly and Dr. Kwan and the entire staff was very helpful every step of the way. Everything was clearly explained to me and all of my questions were answered. I was given clear written recovery instructions to take home. Dr. Kwan is an excellent surgeon - I only took Tylenol and ibuprofen for a few days after the procedure and felt little to no pain. I have been waiting for months on there approval process with the insurance / John Muir. I call and call little to no responses, no follow through.
