I had high hopes for this place but was immediately disappointed in the lack of respect I received upon entry into the shop. I went in to get an item appraised and felt accused at the ownership of this item, was shamed at my "lack of knowledge" in getting an appraisal, and they hardly looked at the item and gave me a price that was not even a quarter of the previous appraisals I had received at other locations. Taylor Shy was great to work with. For men's rings, anywhere I looked everything was too bland so I had decided a while back I was going to have to have something custom made. I went to another large local jeweler first and they wouldn't make what I wanted. They said the design was too risky and they couldn't insure it. I said 'Great, I've got my own jewelry insurance so that's no problem' but they wouldn't do it. When I've got my mind made up and I want something there's no telling me no so I went to Diamonds Direct. I showed Taylor the drawings of what I wanted and he seemed excited to help make it. When he sent the drawings to the custom designers they too said it was a risky design but they still allowed me to have it made. We chose a diamond and then over the next few weeks we went through several revisions until the CAD image looked exactly like I had imagined it. They printed a wax 3D version for me to see and then they made the real thing. I couldn't be happier with the ring and my fiancé gets so many compliments on it. When it's time to pick out wedding bands next year I know exactly where we will be going. read more

Bought my husband's ring here. Was never informed of any maintenance needed for the ring by the very experienced sales woman who was 60 minutes late to my scheduled appointment time. Wow. I cant believe the customer service at this place. My salesman Larry was the best. The only complaint was how busy he was. I went in to purchase a loose diamond for my wife and I thirtieth anniversary. Larry was more that helpful in showing me VSI and VVSI in Marquette cut from what they had in stock, but they were not to my liking. At that point he showed me a list of diamonds that he could bring in from there supplier that I could chose from. The diamonds arrives in 2 days WOW, good thing because I was running out of time. The quality,cut and color were fantastic. After the purchase they were able to mount the diamond into her ring there also. Truly one stop shopping. My (now) fiance and I went into Distinctive Diamonds in St. Louis after shopping around at several places for a loose diamond for an engagement setting we had, and really loved our experience here. The prices and benefits offered at DD are by far the best we encountered (online or in person) of all the places we went to, and we did a LOT of research. The store itself is state of the art! They greet you at the door with refreshments and chocolates, and everyone is courteous and knowledgeable. You truly feel like it is a "shopping experience" rather than a cheesy sales pitch like other jewelry stores. Although I can't personally speak to the engagement settings offered at the store, I can say that they had a huge selection of styles and designers. Our jeweler, Brandon Long, was incredible to work with and very patient with us as we came to look at loose stones multiple times. Since this was a big decision to make, we appreciated that he listened to our every desire and concern regarding the perfect stone for us. And boy, did he deliver!! The first time we came in, we were helped immediatly, offered champagne and/or beer, soda, etc. The staff was so friendly and helpful. They understood we had a budget and needed to stick to it. We had gone to shane co down the street and we had already put money down on a ring that was about 95% what we wanted. We stopped in and showed him what we wanted and he got to work with his design team working on each change that I asked for him to improve on. We had a vision and DD brought it to life. We had our engagement and wedding ring custom made (not that they didn't have a huge selection to begin with) but we wanted to craft our own. The results were STUNNING, AMAZING, GORGEOUS, and PERFECT! Georgena worked with us every step of the way (extremely patient and genuinely cares) pen and paper sketching, CAD drawings, molds, to perfection of the finished product. One of our diamonds even had a small flaw in it and she brought it to OUR attention and let us know that she was sending it back to the manufacturer to get it switched out. She did and they fixed it. Customer service is out of this world (everyone is trained very well) and the "treats" when you arrive are a special touch. The store is impeccably clean and designed very well. I also had several of my designer pieces (John Hardy) repaired and again, flawless execution. If you are truly looking for a great, long term jeweler....look no further, this is the place. AND trust me, both my fiancé and myself are very hard to please (exceptionally high standards) and he concurs 100% with this opinion!! read more

EDIT: Upgrading from 3 to 4 stars. I stand by everything I wrote below but I will add that I ended up purchasing from here and I feel I got a great deal. What brought me back to this place was my salesman kept saying "we will not be undersold by anyone in the country, even online". So I decided to call their bluff, and lo and behold they were not bluffing. I found the ring I wanted on JamesAllen.com and made DD give me an even better ring and setting for the same price, they even offset the price to account for the fact that I don't have to pay sales tax on JamesAllen.com (after some haggling with the manager, but I enjoy that stuff). The only thing that was a bit sketchy was how they over-sell their free warranty but never tell you what you have to do to keep the warranty in-tact. In fact, I had to learn from a competing jeweler (that doesn't offer a warranty) that I had to bring the ring in every six months for inspections for the warranty to be active. I understand that this may be industry standard but even when I picked my damn ring up they didn't tell me I had to do this (although it was in the paper work handed to me). Another friend bought from here and I was the one who told him about the strings attached to the warranty and he was mad they didn't tell him either. Again, I know it's fairly standard practice to bring the ring in, but please realize that your average customer is buying the first piece of expensive jewelery he/she has ever purchased and doesn't necessarily know about warranty inspections. First Review below: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Came here to look at engagement rings and if I do end up purchasing my ring here I will update my review but I wanted to jot down some notes about this place while they are fresh in my head. They've been in St. Louis since Thanksgiving 2015 and have been advertising themselves as "bringing Diamond price relief to St. Louis".. more on that in a bit. The good: They have a very large selection of bands out on the floor, most of which have CZ's in them (for display purposes) so I recommend coming here if you want to see a lot of different styles if you are not sure what you want. Our salesperson was helpful, not pushy at all. You might have to wait a while to get a sales person but you can spend that time just looking at their huge selection of inventory on display. The important to know: This business's "value proposition" to its customers is that they will not be undersold. Which is strange because the way they explained their pricing to me actually has me thinking they are one of the most expensive stores in St. Louis as far as loose diamonds are concerned. When I walked into a private office with the salesperson they basically said this: "The industry standard for wholesale pricing of diamonds is based on the Rapaport price sheets, published weekly. Most places charge 20-40% over Rap prices to their customers since they buy them at Rap prices, we charge about 15-20% less than those prices to our customers since our president owns the source". It took me a few days of shopping around and reading about Rap pricing to realize this is complete crap. No jewelry store anywhere is paying anything close to those Rapaport prices to buy diamonds. If you don't know what Rapaport prices are, it's basically a private company that issues a weekly chart of prices of loose diamonds in every color/clarity combo. The prices are simply a benchmark - they are not realistic of what anyone actually pays or even charges for diamonds. No one should ever convince you that a commodity (even diamonds) have some sort of standard price. If you really want to shop around and learn what kind of markup places have on loose diamonds, pick a combo of the 4C's and ask around for pricing. Every other jeweler I went to in St. Louis quoted me at LEAST 40% under Rap prices for diamonds, which is way under Distinctive. Now in the interest of full disclosure since I'm not currently negotiating ring prices with them , it is possible that they might go down under what they quoted me but if they are starting with basically what amounts to a lie about how diamonds are bought by jewelers then it doesn't give me much hope. I hope they respond to my review, I'm genuinely curious as to what they say. read more

Prior to this experience, I have never shopped at Diamond's Direct, but I just don't see any reason to go anywhere else. Mark Madeiros taught me everything I needed to know about selecting the perfect diamond for my fiancé's engagement ring. I then looked at settings made by Tacori and Verragio. Landed on one by Verragio. I kept walking the store to make sure it was the right ring, but instead saw a setting made by Amden's seamless collection. Well, 5 carats later, I was buying a 3 ct setting and a 2 ct cusion center piece that Mark sent to Amden to have special made to fit the center diamond. It took about 6 weeks and came in as promised. Mark contacted me regularly throughout the process to let me know things were on schedule. Picked up the ring yesterday and popped the question. How could she say no?
