Diamondback Golf Club or on some golf apps "Diamond Back golf club " is a gem neat Lorris SC. Every single hole requires course management. Very simply, the course will severely punish the "grip it and rip it golfer". A review on the golf application "shot pattern" will show precise targets with areas of fair size width fairways (66 yards before a penalty area) and narrowing fairways outside of these hitting areas. The fairways are lined with dense Carolina forest that assures a stray shot is likely unplayable or most likely a lost ball. There are plenty of water hazards and carries to challenge golfers of a range of handicaps. Did I say this course is challenging? The scorecard tells the story The very back tees, or "Diamondback" is about 6600 yards with a course rating of 73 and slope of 148. That means a scratch golfer hcp index gets course hcp of 1 and a 17 hcp index course hcp is 23. The whites at about 6000 yards yields a course hcp of 19 for the 17 hcp index golfer. The Gold tees or copperhead at about 5500 yards yields a course hcp of 15 for the 17 hcp index golfer. This course not only sports narrow fairways and strategically placed hazards, but also fast greens with lots of texture. On some of the holes my longer putts encountered three distinct breaks. The difficulty level has some draw backs. The course is inexpensive compared to many of the courses in the general area of Myrtle Beach, That invites a wide variety of golfer skills that might not appreciate a more difficult course. A golfer might play an executive course at maximum yardage and then choose the "tips" because they think Diamondback Golf Club is a "short course" . This makes for a long day for both the foursome and everybody following. A foursome in front of us could hit the ball reasonably far, but the group sprayed many shots into the woods rather than think about targets. Looking for balls really slowed things down and there are lots of opportunities to lose a golf ball. One other negative I noticed was a that the course attracted golfers that treated the bunkers as waste areas. Many of the bunkers were not raked. I watched the group in front struggle in a bunker and leaving behind something more akin to a kids sandbox than a groomed bunker. This can be frustrating as the course is hard enough. There is a restaurant and bar typical of a public golf course. Unlike a review of many years ago, I found the help to be very polite and friendly. I am always skeptical of the review where one small bothersome becomes a rant and 1-Star. In summary, I would highly recommend Diamondback golf club if you are visiting the Myrtle Beach or Southeastern NC areas. It presents a challenge for a very reasonable green fee. The big thing is to think about the slope rating rather than yardage and play a set of tees that match your skill level to maximize your's and everybody behind you enjoyment. read more

We went to the course with my Wife, Daughter, Son in Law and Grandchild (4). The folks here welcomed my family. Although they had a regular group going out, they allowed us to take my Grandson out. What a great morning. The course is challenging; there are many blind shots, the rough is deep. This course can humble you, but we were out to have fun, and we did. After a review and giving an opinion on some cart rules the General Manager went on a childish rant and said if I didn't like it just don't come back his grass would appreciate it. I love the course and played it many times however with that being said as long as he is the GM I will not be playing or recommending play at diamondback. read more

$19 for a 1pm tee time today. That is a great deal. Yes, the greens are slow, no it's not the best course at the beach, but for these prices, I think it's a good place to play. I have always enjoyed the layout. Fairways were in good shape. read more

Had not played this course in about 8 years. We have about 15 golf courses within twenty mins of our home but decided to drive 45 mins to check out the renovations here. What a surprise!! I visit Myrtle Beach about two times per year and I always visit this track at least once per visit. On my most recent trip to MB I only had two days available to play and both rounds were at Diamondback. Let's start with the clubhouse, range and staff. The clubhouse is the typical low-end MB style with a combo pro shop and restraint area. This set-up works for me. I loved the driving range. The golf balls were a bit suspect, but the turf and targets were great. The staff is very friendly and I sure felt welcome. Now for the course. I've played at least 40 courses in MB. Maybe more. I've played the best to the worst and Diamondback is one of my favorites. The layout is fantastic. I'm not exaggerating when I say I'd be thrilled to play this course every day. This is a tight track with nearly every hole tree lined. You won't see a single house on this course. If you're a long hitter you'll need to be able to shape some of your tee shots. I hit lots of drivers on this course. Perhaps I hit driver a bit too often given the narrow fairways, but I find my driving always improves big time after playing this course. If you can hit effective drives there are lots of birdie holes, but you can make a big number with a foul ball. I love this aspect of the course. The condition is very playable. The tee boxes are decent. The fairways and roughs are pretty solid. Green side bunkers were pretty good. The greens are not exactly choice, but they have pretty good speed to them and they are sufficiently smooth. Well struck putts found the cup, but these greens won't win a beauty contest. Did I mention the amazing layout! Every time I visit MB I will play Diamondback. I can't adequately express how much I love this course. I so much want to give Five Stars, but I just can't given a few of the deficiencies regarding condition. read more

Played the worst course since I started playing in myrtle beach. The course was really poorly maintained and while we were playing we had to play around with the grass cutter who refused to stop so that we could play though. There was absolutely no one there, and when we got there the few that were there were already drunk and playing scratch offs in the parking lot. Would not recommend it. read more

The course is in great shape. A lot of time and effort has been put into getting this course into shape and it's worked. It's a great locals course and the 30 minute drive up Hwy 9 to Loris is well worth it. The "Snake" Bar is a great place to relax and enjoy a beer and a sandwich after play. The course is challenging and offers tees for all skill levels. There is a practice green and driving range for those who want to warm up a bit. All in all, I don't think you will be sorry if you try it. read more

Played many rounds of golf over the years in the Myrtle beach area and this place is hands down the worst experience. Started right at arrival. We had the first tee time of the day so we got there 30 minutes early to hit a few balls to loosen up. Nobody was even in site with the exception of a few grounds guys heading out on their equipment. The shop didn't even open until we were supposed to be teeing off. This put the next group breathing down our necks from the start. Once on the course the guys cutting the grass had no problem riding right up on you as you are trying to hit. On one hole my son was addressing the ball on the tee box and this jackleg on a mower starts riding straight at him. Never stopped moved or anything came straight on by within 10'. We just stood there amazed. After that it was on. Next hole same thing. We just teed off and if they got hit...oh well. This went on the whole round. The icing on the cake was their free lunch offer. They advertised a free hotdog and free coke with your round on their website. Granted that was not the selling point for our playing there but it was free. Think again...we asked for this after our round and we were shot down. We were told we booked online so it didn't count. It said this no where. I even showed them their own offer on their own website and the "pro" at the counter said no dice. We left this Ronco golf course and will never return. Save your green fee money for a real course. read more

This is the best value on the Grand Strand! Tee boxes for all levels & just $18 for 18 holes including cart! Beautifully carved thru Carolina pines, ample fairways and we had the course to ourselves! Good track for all levels of golf. It's worth the 30 minute drive! The time you spend driving will more than saved by no waiting on any shots! read more

By far the worst golf course I've ever played at. Awful rental clubs, not even full sets. Pay the extra to go to a halfway decent place.
