Kelly is a great instructor. The grass is always in top shape for hitting practice balls.

I had to post a review because some of the reviews on here were much lower than I expected. My wife…read moreand I played here on a Saturday at noon in mid-April 2023 and had a pretty good experience. The outside bag staff was very friendly. When I went into the pro shop, they told me they were taking $20 off my green fee (I ended up paying $50/pp) because their greens had not started growing yet. This was surprising, since we've had a lot of warm weather. But I could see that the practice green was in rough shape - lots of dark green spots. So this was a bit of a red flag, but we played anyway. The pro shop staff was also very nice. The course was pretty empty. We played the front nine in about 1h 15m. At the turn, we hit a wall. It was slow for a few holes, but then we had a downpour for about two holes. The two groups in front of us took refuge to wait it out, so we passed them and ended up finishing in about 3 hours. The course was a little rough. Fairways and rough were OK, not fantastic. Tee boxes were OK but they need re-leveling. The greens were bumpy and inconsistent. The traps were also inconsistent - some hard, some soft. The rake literally bumped off the ground when I tossed it in one bunker! Given the age of this course, I just think it needs some minor renovation. The carts are fine, but no GPS. The USGA (GHIN) app has all that, so no problem! All in all, it wasn't a bad experience. The other reviews faulted the staff for being unfriendly, but I wanted to chime in because we had a good experience. I took a star off for the course conditions, but for the $50 we paid, it was an OK value.

Recently enjoyed a Myrtle Beach guys weekend for a whole lot of golf at three different venues, as…read morepart of #HotBoyFall. Sandpiper Bay was the second of our three destinations. Despite my 4 star rating, I do want to echo the sentiments of the other low ratings here. We immediately had a bad taste in our mouths from the treatment by the initial staff. When we arrived, we simply parked our car and proceeded inside to pay in the pro shop, ignoring the bag drop area as it was not a busy day. We retrieved our carts from the pickup area and proceeded to the parking lot to load up clubs and change into our golf shoes. We were not told any differently, we didn't even SEE anyone. Within a minute, we were approached on a golf cart by an employee. I am not sure his name, but he was a late-middle aged man with very yellow teeth (not derogatory, but this is the only way I can identify him, he didn't give his name). He immediately gave us a guilt act that we didn't follow the "widely known procedure" to put our bags in the bag drop area and proceed inside to pay. We didn't do this because there was light rain, and no one was manning this area, so we figured it wasn't being used at the time. He then proceeded to be pompous about their course, and started talking down to us like we were somehow beneath this place. It set a TERRIBLE tone for the day, which is supposed to be fun, and we were paying a healthy green fee to enjoy. Unacceptable behavior. Clearly, these employees managing the initial experience are a repeat problem as pretty much all other reviews mention them. Pompous, holier than thou, rude, condescending. Sandpiper Bay, these people are hurting your image, and you're lucky our group was able to turn the other cheek and enjoy your beautiful course regardless. You would have had a 5 star rating if not for this employee. The starter on the other hand was an older gentleman who couldn't have been nicer. He gladly explained nuances about the course to us as we hadn't been there before. Explained it's a 27 hole course, and you play different legs based on traffic. We were told we play "Piper" and "Bay" courses today. He helped turn around the experience. We were thrilled to find out we didn't have to stay glued to the cart paths even though it was raining. Why? Because this course is in immaculate shape, and drains very well. Regardless of the consistent showers, the front 9 was not torn up at all by carts. We were making excellent ball contact even in the wet instead of burying our clubs in mud. This points to healthy grass and a knowledgeable well funded grounds-crew. Thanks to the weather, though wet, we played in a comfortable temperature, and had no one in front of us or behind us. It was enjoyable all day. Rain quit around hole 11. I could not find a blemish on this course even with the weather. No standing water at all. Lush grounds. Greens rolled well for being wet. We were so happy with the golf, that it made the rude initial employee an afterthought. Another BRIGHT star was the bartender at the turn. She was so friendly. An older lady pouring strong drinks with good humor, serving up hot dogs, sandwiches, and drinks to go. We dried off in there for about half an hour since pace of play was not a concern. She was a delight, and the food and drinks were excellent! I'd happily eat and drink here even if not playing. Lovely clubhouse. All in all, I shot 86 and given the weather, that is fantastic. The course is very long and without much roll, low scores were hard to find. We had a great day at Sandpiper, and will definitely return! Hopefully one person won't be working that day when we do.

NOT good for large groups or families. Doesn't answer phone calls. Hours not posted anywhere…read moreonline, posted hours onsite appeared to only be for the summer time. Prices not posted online (It's $10/person if anyone is wondering). The posted (when you arrive) group size is 5 people. It was late in the evening when we arrived so we asked what time they closed. The lady running the place couldn't tell us a time that they closed and said around 9:30 PM or so. To confirm I asked if they were "closing after everyone finished?" and she seemed to acknowledge that. We are a large family on vacation together so we split into 3 groups. We began playing and were having fun, at hole THREE she came to me and my wife and said, "we appreciate your business, but would you keep playing and not wait for the next group" because she wanted to be able to leave at a good time. We were a little flustered but wanted to be considerate and made sure the next group of our family was not being held up and that we were playing 3 holes at a time. 3 holes later, on HOLE SIX!, she came to our second group who had partially moved forward to the hole and were waiting on their last group member and began telling them not to wait for the next group in the family (WHICH THEY WEREN'T!)! At that point my wife and I had enough and stopped playing and just let our kids (ages 11 and under) play the rest of the course. Most of the fun from mini golf is watching and cheering one another on. Other members of our family also could not enjoy playing the rest of the time. On top of that they let others into the course after us (appeared to be a family of 5 or 6), and they weren't waiting on us to finish and were consistently 2 holes behind our party. Another couple was also let in after us and they appeared to be told to start elsewhere in the course and appeared to hop around from hole to hole in random order. Commonly when playing mini golf in the past we let other faster groups play through if needed but never had the opportunity tonight. Needless to say, I do not recommend going to this place and will NOT return ever again. It may be an "okay" place for a couple on a date or a family with only one or two children. Some business advise for the owners: - Post your hours clearly online and onsite for both peak season and off season. - Hire workers that are kind and courteous and not focused on leaving at an indeterminate time that is unknown to your customers. - If the workers need to leave by a certain time, perhaps don't accept new golfers past a certain time. After being in business for a while it should be clear how long the course takes for a group to complete. - It would be nice to have prices posted clearly as well but I understand from a marketing standpoint not posting them.
