So, I moved to Kansas City in the last days of 2011 and was aghast to find that Springfield Cashew Chicken in its original sense doesn't exist there! What they call "cashew chicken" is tragically bad. That being said, anytime I come back to West Plains, I literally cannot wait to get Cashew Chicken at Diamond Head. And not only is the food good enough to pine over more than 500 miles away, but when visiting tonight, Shauna, who has served me more times than I can even attempt to recall, remembered us, our drink choices, and to bring chop sticks without being asked even though we haven't eaten there for over 2 years. Me and my 2 other friends decided to get lunch here we ordered a side of fried rice, beef and broccoli lunch, and cashew chicken lunch. Everything was fine till mid way of us sitting and eating,my friend who got the beef and broccoli noticed a piece of hair in her food from farther examination, we found several pieces of hair within her meal. There's literally like 3 hairs holding up a piece of broccoli wtf diamond head, we called up there and the lady on the phone kept questioning us. I've gotten food from here two times recently. Service was alright. The first time I got food there was less chicken and not spicy for General Tso's Chicken. However the second time the next day, they added only a couple more pieces of chicken when I came back through and added more sauce. A bit disappointing, even in the context of a typical midwestern Americanized Chinese buffet. 4 rows of buffet stations, 1 of those just for dessert. Not a lot of variety in "traditional" buffet dishes like Bourbon chicken and steak, honey chicken, and general tso's chicken. Lots of southern dishes like fried okra, fish, and chicken, roast beef, garlic bread, frog legs. Sushi for some reason? All the food was very sweet, as if lots of sugar used in the sauces. So I give this place 3 stars ...The only reason I do not go any higher is that it's really your typical chinese buffet. So our experience here was very pleasant. The food was fresh and tasty. The servers where very friendly and on top of our drinks. The place was clean and the prices for a family of three where very reasonable. We ate for 20 dollars. 1. Music is terrible, absolutely terrible. When I walk into a "Chinese restaurant" the last thing I'm expecting to hear is the crap they played while we ate. The only saving grace during our time here was that the music stopped (likely because it was the end of the CD track). 2. Food selection can only be described as paltry, at best. The other Chinese restaurants here honestly have a better selection. 3. My very first plate from the buffet line I managed to grab, not one, but two, rock-hard food items that caused me to wonder if I had broken one of my back molars as I bit into it. 4. The "pepsi" fridge placed at the entryway that's used for the storage of milk and other kitchen items. 5. With this being a buffet that doesn't provide knives to the diners, the cooks in the back seem to have no idea that buffet food should be cut into bite sized seeing that some items are near impossible to cut into smaller pieces. I've honestly never been into a Chinese buffet that's left me this disappointed for having failed in so many simple yet key areas. Conclusion: Would NOT come again even if you paid me. I'm amazed that this place is still open given how disappointing our visit was. read more

Once upon a time we ate here a lot, then the former owners sold out. Whenever I came into town after that I'd go to either of the other two Chinese places in town, but this visit I thought I'd try Diamond Head again. We ordered take out once and it was fine. Tonight, however, the customer service (or lack thereof) really put a dimmer on the experience. My Mother ordered for four, my sister went out to pick it up. When she got home we discovered that there was no steamed rice with my entree (the Dragon & Phoenix). I called out there and was told that it was essentially our fault, since we had ordered during a rush. I asked, nicely, if I could possibly get an upgrade to a larger steamed rice (it comes with a small) since we had to make two trips due to their mistake. The young woman informed me that I would -not- be given "free food" just because they had left something out of my order. I said that I was pretty upset by that, and without any attempt at customer service she told me (hatefully) that she was very sorry, and she could only do what her bosses let her do. I said fine and I'd be out to get my small rice. The phone rang again almost immediately with someone (possibly the manager?) being hostile to my mother on the phone. I took the phone and was informed that I had "cussed out" the waitress. I did no such thing (and had two witnesses), but the woman on the phone said yes, I had, because the waitress would "never lie about being cussed out". I informed them that I would not be out for my rice, nor would I be back, to which the woman yelled "FINE" and slammed down the phone. The food was decent, but not fabulous, so I have absolutely no trouble taking my business to Chen's Garden or King Garden Buffet. read more

My family and I have eaten here more than I would like to admit, but never again. We got lunch through the drive through today. As I was eating my eggroll, I noticed the pork inside of it was raw! I called the restaurant and the lady who answered the phone was really rude with me. I asked to speak to the manager. She said there wasn't a manager there. I asked who was in charge. She said the owner was and asked why I was calling. I told her the situation, and I was keeping my cool and being kind. When she hands the phone off to the owner, she says, "There's a b**ch on the line whining about an eggroll." The owner was very polite, trying to offer me something in return for my terrible experience. I politely declined because we will no longer give this business our money. The only reason I called was so they could be sure to check the other eggrolls. read more

I ate here for lunch. I was happy with the food and service. The buffet was extremely big with all the different varieties of Chinese food, along with a big salad bar. The service was friendly and quick on drink refills. The price was very reasonable. The one knock I had was some of the foods temperature was not as hot as I would have liked! I was staying at the hotel next to the restaurant and I called over to place my order and they asked me when I wanted it to be ready. I said in about 10 minutes. I walked over about 10 minutes later and it was ready. I ordered the Kung Po Chicken with Crab Rangoon. The portion was more than enough. I recently ordered Moo Shu Pork from this restaurant. when I got home I noticed that the MOST important part wasn't included, the Plum/Hoisen Sauce. I called... "There's no sauce that comes with it!" Um, Yeah, it does! Then I got "Oh, we cooked it in the sauce. " No you didn't! That sauce has a very distinct taste and there was none.
