I have been seeing Dr. Donath for a few months now and it has changed my life. I was seeing a…read morechiropractor for years due to hip and lower back pain. She would adjust me but never mentioned anything actually being wrong with my back. When I saw Dr. Donath he immediately told me that I likely have bulging discs and would need an MRI to identify the exact issues. I had the MRI done which showed two bulging discs. I started spinal decompression therapy and my pain is GONE. It has changed my life. Also, maybe some people out there can relate that I love watching y-strap (and ring dinger) videos on YouTube. Dr. Donath did the y-strap on me and it helped so immensely. I have three small children and have neck pain from hunching/holding them/always being on my phone. The y-strap fixed my neck immediately. I look forward to doing it again and hope to get more relief in my upper back next time. I really can't say enough good things about Dr. Donath. Even my 5 year old says how mommy no longer is in pain and no longer complains. I can play on the ground with my kids and not feel that constant ache. If you have seen chiropractors with no resolution to your pain, PLEASE go to Dr. Donath. It has changed everything for me.

Buyer Beware. They may not be a scam, but it sure feels like one…read more Please note that this is only my experience and does not reflect the people that work at Joint Effort. Everyone is really nice and they do a good job of making you feel comfortable. However: The entire process from start to finish is a bit of pseudo-science. You are first given a free book to read about decompression therapy and then are required to get an MRI to become a eligible patient. Turns out I had four herniated disks which just so happen to be eligible for decompression therapy. I was then quoted a figure of $7,000 for the entire 30 session process. Shortly afterwards I was exposed to dozens of alleged testimonials about how successful the process was. I figured that it would be worth the investment so I went ahead and started a payment plan with them. The process itself is a bit lackluster - you are literally laying down as a machine pulls at the bottom of your skull a centimeter or so for about 20 minutes. You are also given ice packs to take home with you and you're told multiple times to make sure to ice the neck and lower back area at least 5 times a day. For the most part, the pain started to go away although there were some times when I wake up with excruciating pain for a day which eventually went away. Fast forward 30 sessions later, and I noticed my pain started to return. However, the only thing that changed was that I was getting a bit lazy with the icing of my neck. And then it hit me, maybe it's the ice that is doing all the work and not the stretching. Either way - I asked for a copy of my statement for tax purposes and it turned out that $7k quote was a lie. I was charged $255 per session and my bill came out to $8,950 (~35 sessions). To summarize, nothing against the people that work here, but it seems sketchy. I wouldn't recommend unless you've tried surgery already and it didn't work.

UPDATED REVIEW -- 2 YEARS LATER:…read more It has been 2 years since I started treatment, and unfortunately, I am back where I started. I regret investing $7,000 to ultimately be in constant pain again. I want to update my original review because I feel it is important for anyone reading it today to know how my experience ultimately unfolded. When I originally wrote this review, I genuinely believed this treatment had changed my life. Before treatment with Dr. Gertner, I felt helpless, disconnected from my body, and had zero motivation. I was only 27 years old and had been living every day with chronic neck pain, joint and nerve pain, and constant fatigue. Despite sleeping 8 hours a night, my energy was nonexistent. I had seen countless specialists and chiropractors, desperately looking for answers, but none of them could pinpoint the cause of my symptoms. After being told repeatedly that because my blood work was normal, there was supposedly nothing wrong with me, I began to feel like I was crazy and slowly accepted that pain as my new reality. Then I found upper cervical chiropractic treatment. From my very first phone call with Dr. Gertner, I felt hopeful. He reassured me that he had heard these symptoms before and was confident he could help. After my consultation, I felt validated and believed I had finally found the answer I had been searching for. At the time I wrote this review, I truly believed I had my life back. I described waking up energized and with zero pain because that was genuinely how I felt at the time. Unfortunately, two years later, my experience has changed. I am now back to dealing with constant pain--the very symptoms I originally sought treatment for. After investing $7,000 and two years of my life into this treatment, it is incredibly disappointing to find myself back where I started. Looking back, I also regret overlooking what I now consider to have been red flags, including being asked for $5,000 upfront. At the time, I was desperate for answers and so hopeful that I had finally found something that would help that I didn't question it the way I wish I had. I am leaving this update because I don't want someone reading my original review to assume that the results I experienced at that time represent my experience today. They don't. I genuinely believed in this treatment when I wrote my original review. That is what makes having to write this update so difficult. I regret ever becoming a patient here.

It all started with a heavy metal trashcan falling on my left foot and crushing one of the joints…read morein the big toe when I was a kid. Years later, I had to have surgery to fix the joint. There was some relief, but not completely. I had been putting more weight on my uninjured right foot, and more stress. This caused not only a funny walk, but pain and discomfort in my back, shoulders, knees, and neck. I had been in pain and discomfort for nearly two years, even AFTER months of post-surgery physiotherapy. Painkillers really mess with my stomach, so I was asking family and friends for tips and looking on the internet for alternatives. I had heard of chiropractors before but, like most people, I had some negative stereotypes about chiropractic work and was skeptical. Ironically, I found Dr. Donath by looking on Yelp! There were so many positive reviews that I decided I had to try it. Well now I'm leaving a review and saying that I am so glad that I took the leap. Whatever stereotypes you have heard about chiropractors is totally not true, at least when it comes to Dr. Donath and his team. I had a complicated set of complaints, and from the first appointment I was so well taken care of. I was treated both by Dr. Donath and his colleague Dr. Marshall who are both patient, friendly, and easy to work with. You can tell that they actually really do genuinely care. I never felt rushed, and in many ways the treatments felt like a combination of physiotherapy, stretching, and adjustment work. Both Dr. Marshall and Dr. Donath also have additional training that most chiropractors don't have! They use a variety of treatment methods to get the best results. I am feeling so much better, and it only took about two months of treatment. It really is incredible. And what is great is that both Dr. Donath and Dr. Marshall took the time to educate me on how to prevent certain injuries again (how to have better posture, getting out of bed the correct way to prevent too much pressure on the spine etc!). I also found them to be very affordable, they worked with my insurance and the co-pays were lower than I expected. They even worked with me so I could get a new custom-made pair of orthotic inserts for my shoes which have helped to improve my posture even more! I also wanted to add that their office is super clean and nice too! I don't typically leave a ton of reviews but I wanted to leave one for them because they did an amazing job! I think it's important to know that you DO NOT have to deal with chronic pain forever! There are healthy alternatives that actually work! I can't recommend Dr. Donath and Dr. Marshall highly enough! I hope this review will help you make a decision that is right for you! Good luck and feel better! I know what it feels like to suffer from chronic pain and discomfort! You are not alone!

Dr. Sofos is by FAR the most legitimate chiropractor I've experienced…read more For 2.5 years I searched for a chiropractor from Westchester to Manhattan following my car accident in 2020. Every single one came off as a car salesman more invested in milking me for all my money than improving my health. I experienced shocking tactics from these "chiropractors" from free visits in exchange for 5 star reviews, to locking me into a payment plan for the next year of care (regardless of if I would respond to treatment), to charging me $300 for an xray before they would adjust me just to adjust me anyway after I refused. I never experienced this with Dr. Sofos. It actually felt MEDICAL as opposed to sales-y. From the moment we met, he was professional and personable. He did an initial examination of my back, sent me for muscle stimulation and heat therapy before adjusting my back, talking through specific nerves and areas of my back with visual aid, and then teaching and assigning me stretches to do for my specific pain. I left feeling like my wellness was the goal. Very excited to be a patient here, excited for the future of my healing, and for once, will be a returning patient to a chiropractic office!
