Recently I had a 20 year root canal go bad and it was time for an extraction + implant. I had been super afraid of finding a proper dentist to do this procedure because I just could not trust dentists to not screw me over with pricing and procedures. I came to Shant at Dental Blvd through a recommendation and could not have had made a better decision. Shant was the 4th dentist I went to for inquiry about the extraction and implant, and not only did he quote me a price lower than anyone else I inquired, but Shant and the office staff me feel so welcome to be seeing a dentist lol. It felt like I was visiting a dentist who was in my family or something I ended up going through dental blvd for my extraction and implant. I got my molar extracted at the start of July and my implant is about to be finalized by the end of this year. Since then, I've come to Shant for a chipped incisor (front tooth) and filling replacement on a premolar. Let me tell you something else. My chipped incisor had been worked on by another dentist before, and that filling only lasted two months before it fell out. Shant not only repaired that dentist's work, he made it look flawless to the point where you would never know the tooth had been chipped in the first place. I don't think I can trust another dentist in my life anymore.

From the moment she brought my husband back, she had an attitude. It was clear she didn't want to be there working on a Saturday. She was very unprofessional. First of all, when she called my husband back and I got up to go with him, she told me, "Wait here. You can come back when I put him in a room." I waited--only to find out that after she finished taking his pano, she told him, "You can go get your friend." (Petty.) He corrected her and said I was his wife. When I walked back, she gave me an attitude and told me I could sit in the chair in the corner. As I was walking over, she told me to MOVE my things (drinks). This girl should not be working in customer service, let alone in a dental office. Janeth, you should focus your time and attention on properly cleaning and disinfecting the operatory for the next patient--not on having an attitude. (See attached photos of blood from previous patients.) You're an assistant, not a doctor. You're not shit. On a positive note, the woman at the front desk was amazing--very attentive and sweet. The doctor was okay.

You will find yourself waiting…read morefor hours for sub-par dental work and the icing on the cake is that their billing practices are unethical and bordering on fraudulent. My daughters and I started going to MHMD back in December of 2024. Our experience has been terrible on multiple fronts. 1) Appointments are easy to schedule. However, once we arrived for our appointments - wait times were well over an hour, sometimes two, with additional wait time once we sat down in the dentist chair. I understand that the office can get busy - but our experience was consistent and ridiculous. We had a running joke in our house that if our appt was at 10am - we'd hope to be home by dark. 2) My daughter's cavity filling fell out - not once but twice. So mind you, she has to go and wait again for hours to correct an issue that I have never seen before in my life. 3) And finally, their billing practices are dysfunctional, unethical and borderline fraudulent. They charge you for procedures BEFORE they happen - which in my opinion is wildly unethical. Further, they do not reconcile between what they charge the patient vs. what the Insurance company determines is the patient responsibility - which leaves the patient grossly overpaying. Examples: They charged me $1,257 for my daughter's wisdom teeth removal in January 2025, which included charges for pain medicine which she may or may not need. When I got the EOB from our insurance - our portion was only $495. When I brought up the issue to the office - they delayed, delayed and delayed. I finally had to go into the office to get my refund. Also, no explanation for the huge difference. They charged my eldest daughter over $600 for a deep cleaning. I knew this was too much - and when I reviewed the EOB, our patient portion was only $147. Again, no call from the office - I had to bring up the overcharge and then follow-up for weeks to get the refund. They charged me over $1,100 for a deep cleaning and onlay. My EOB came back at $317. Ridiculous. My last experience - I knew better. They referred me to a periodontist who suggested I needed Osseous surgery and bone grafts. I asked for the estimate - it was $7,600! I was shocked - who could afford that? BUT when I got the predetermination of benefits from my insurance, the total patient responsibility was $500... and that is just because my maximum benefit was hit. The procedure is covered 100% by my insurance. MHMD was going to charge me $7,600!! I am sure there are hundreds of patients who don't know to review their EOB and bring up the differences... because MHMD certainly will not. Do not use this dental office!!

I've had dental work done in the past that's had to be redone, and have had my fair share of unpleasant experiences, even during routine cleanings. I've been so sore and in pain for days, unable to properly eat, from just a regular tooth cleaning - I used to dread those appointments. It was very simple to make an appointment online which was already a plus. This place is also about 10 minutes away which was also convenient. The front staff is nice, not rude or condescending like some other places. I didn't have to wait long until I was called in. I had X-rays done, and then the Dr came in and actually spent a good amount of time just getting to know me as a person. After looking at my X-rays and doing a quick exam, he gave me a simple treatment plan for one tooth. He explained everything thoroughly and answered every question I had. I was even able to get my teeth cleaned with Zareh the same day and he was really efficient and gentle - no pain or soreness afterwards at all. I'll be going for my treatment in a few weeks so I'm a little nervous but feeling optimistic. I'll have to update this review after treatment so hopefully everything goes smoothly.

I don't have insurance, so after the X-rays they gave me a quote for $3500 for a root canal and crown. Okay...I don't have that money currently. I asked how much would it be for a tooth extraction. The woman told me $1000 and it will take 30-45 mins for the extraction. $1000 for a tooth extraction that's only going to take 30-45 mins?! Nah. They at least gave me prescriptions for clindamycin and Ibuprofen which I was happy about. Then they told me I was free to go, just for them to call me a 20 mins later talking about they forgot to charge me for the X-rays Idk if they're price gauging here or what. He focused on routine cleanings, never pushed unnecessary procedures, and we never had out-of-pocket costs. After he retired, the new dentist who took over seemed unskilled, unethical, or both, and appeared more focused on billing than on patient care. I was charged unexpected copays and talked into fillings that were poorly done. I developed persistent tooth sensitivity afterward (which I never had before), and when I returned, I was told my teeth were simply "unusually sensitive." One filling soon fell out. Overall, multiple issues came up over my three visits with the new dentist. The office also began overbooking--we waited a long time outside and then again inside. We realized we needed a new office and, after reading Yelp reviews, chose Smiles Northridge. I specifically looked for comments about ethical conduct and professionalism. My first visit was reassuring. The dentist, Dr. Sam, explained everything clearly, made a point of keeping treatment within my insurance coverage, and demonstrated strong clinical skill. He corrected problems from my previous dental work smoothly and confidently, addressed other minor issues, and the pricing felt very fair. I also had the impression that he genuinely cared about my dental health. The office was better managed as well, with minimal waiting and no obvious overbooking. My husband visited the next day and had the same impression: the dentist was skillful, addressed several minor issues effectively, and the overall experience was efficient and well run. We truly hope this strong first impression holds and that we can build a long-term relationship with this office for our dental care.

The Dr. And his staff are friendly and keep up with your life events which makes it feel less clinical. Veronica, the secretary, sends text reminders for your appointments. You do need to have a PPO or pay out of pocket for the services. I like how there is always parking at the office and that it is gated, so less fear of your car being dinged. While I do appreciate the Dr., the hygienists, and the dental assistants; I do have to contradict some of the previous reviews. Dr. Kohanoff is rough. You have to brace yourself when he is doing your cleaning. I have a pretty good pain tolerance, but I'm still sore the day after getting a cleaning from him (don't worry, he does numb the areas during the process). Other than that, his work is superb. Would be nice if I could watch TV while getting work done... trying to avoid awkward eye contact can be a challenge otherwise.
