What are dull needles good for? Nothing. They're pointless!…read more I like to think I'm generally a pretty healthy person. If ever I get sick, it's usually not anything worse than the common cold. Recently, however, I did have reason to go in to get checked out and was ordered to get my blood tested. Enter Diagnostic Laboratory Services (DLS). Located very closely to Dr. Rodney Ono/Dr. Matthew Dykema's office, DLS is right around the corner in the exact same building. Requiring less than a minute of wandering around, looking for the right door (in my experience, at least). When you enter, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Instructing you on exactly what it is that you need to do, in a clear and concise manner. It may also have been coincidence, but when I went there was basically no wait between when I got there and handed in my papers, to when I was called back to have my blood drawn. Which is always a plus in my book. As you're taken into the back, the staff are again very friendly and personable. Doing all that they can to get your mind off of the fact that you're about about to have a large needle poked into your arm. To their credit, it did work to a degree! Having heard some horror stories about having blood drawn (technicians not being able to find a vein, leaving a big bruise, etc.), I think that this experience was quite good. Getting the blood drawn was quick and relatively painless, and the staff were nothing but nice the entire time. If ever you are given a choice of what lab to use for blood tests or something, I wouldn't hesitate to use DLS. Or, if you know that you do have to go there for tests, I wouldn't sweat it.

Per Hawaii's Safe Travel requirements, my husband and I were tested for Covid 72 hours prior to our…read morearrival on the Big Island. We uploaded our negative test results and prepared for a fun week in the islands. On arrival at the Kona airport, we (and all arriving passengers) were required to undergo a second test, with the assurance that "no news was good news". Except for a text informing us that our samples had arrived at the lab, we received "no news". Upon arrival at our hotel, our desk clerk let us know that Kauai (where we would be traveling 3 days later) would require that we be tested again because our UC San Diego tests were outside of the 72 hour window required for the Hawaii Safe Travels platform. So, even though we were already in Hawaii, and even though we had been tested twice in the last 4 days, on Day 2 of our relaxing island vacation, we spent the morning researching a Covid testing clinic that could provide us with results in time to travel, now 2 days later. S&G Labs in Kailua Kona seemed to offer what we now required, so we planned our one of two full days on the Big Island so that we could be at their office at the appointed time. I was in a pretty bad mood about it at this point, since it seemed like we had already jumped through every hoop. And our vacation was now $550 over budget, with the combined total of the tests in San Diego and Kona - money we could have spent on meals or activities which would have supported local businesses. We ended up arriving at S&G a bit early from our drive, but were warmly welcomed anyway. In fact, the reason I am even reviewing something I was angry about having to fit into our trip, and angry about paying for - again, is that the staff was incredible. It's been exactly two weeks (we were there 4/20/21), and I can't remember their names. A young man with awesome hair (you'd know it if you saw it), and a young woman - both amazingly hospitable, making us feel comfortable with the process and actually engaging in an intelligent conversation while we took turns being tested. Their interaction actually made what started as an irritating experience pleasant. Enjoyable. And yes, we received the results on time, just as they promised. And we went to Kauai, and we will not travel to Hawaii again until the Covid Vaccination passports are instituted for visitors.

They are the most wonderous people you can meet with an interesting history of succesfull businesses from bakery to computer technology. Harry applies his grasp of physics and technology to the camera producing incredible art. You can see the love and feel the passion in each piece displayed. Self taught he has learned quickly his craft. I am always amazed and excited to see what he does next. When you reach the property, you walk through a gate to be greeted by Little, their not so little dog. To the right is their working studio doubling as their gallery. There are small prints to large prints. And, can go larger if you so desired. Mouse custom frames each masterpiece to perfection. It is a working studio. You may see where Mouse builds the frames. She may be putting the canvas onto the frames, stretching it. A few computers showing galleries of gorgeous pictures Harry is working on. A commercial printer to handle their work load, and large prints. It is easy to see Harry loves shooting the stars, waves and volcano. His shots of the milky way are breath taking. The volcano shooting clouds of lava and smoke are just incredible. The strength of the waves blanketed by the stars in the same frame, astounding. Please go see for yourself. Tanglewood is open every weekend. One Saturday a month, they have a potluck when all photographers are invited to join in a Saturday of sharing. Harry is willing to share not holding anything back. That makes him special when often information is protected like a secret. You can find his work on Amazon, through select stores and always in their home, Tanglewood Gallery. An interior designer is available. You can talk to Harry about that if that is a service you need. Note: Mouse is famous for creating scrap cookies out of Colorado so many years back. Many have tried to copy, imitate but her's is still #1. The story behind that is very interesting but that's best heard from her when you visit.
