I've taken bachata and salsa classes with Jay and he is truly one of the best teachers in DFW. I had been taking classes for about a year at different studios before landing here and I kinda wish I would have started off with Jay as now I'm having to break some bad habits I've already formed. One of the things that I love about his class is that he teaches you body movement and musicality which are two things I wasn't really learning elsewhere. He breaks down each sequence / technique to its fundamental components and makes it incredibly easy to understand and retain. What helps is his fun and approachable way of teaching. I've dabbled lightly with Salsa over the years since 1992 and have had 3-4 instructors each for 6-8 weeks. Most of the instructors could dance well, but their break down of the salsa to instruct it left something to be desired. Up till now I thought that's how it went. Jay's class is full of fun and adventures. I knew basic ballroom dancing when I started with him, and I learned many new things within few months. First hour of his class is solo warm-up, and second hour is partner work where gentlemen rotate to practice with different ladies. Really enjoyed each class Ive gotten to take with Jay. His teaching is easy to follow. I like that he doesn't overlook the details with all of his students. For me, the value in learnimg under a teacher like Jay is that he can correct me on the things that look awkward and unflattering for a woman when dancing. I went in to try out a class last night. Jay and the group made it very comfortable and easy for me to join. This is a better way to dance than dancing with drunk men at clubs. This is the best way to get your cardio and brain exercise going!! I'll be definitely taking more classes. Grab your water, indoor shoes or dance shoes if you have any, and a towel. I went to jay's bachata class for the first time yesterday and I can honestly say I enjoyed it so much. I'm a super shy person but jay made me feel really comfortable and was very welcoming.
