After growing out my grey hair for three years, while keeping it long, I decided I'd put a few DIY highlights at the front of my bangs, where the hair is still pretty dark. Dumb idea. I went for a fix, but the tone was still off, so I called Texture, where there's a really great colourist who knows how to work with grey. She wasn't available, and I was heading into two weeks of travel and client presentations, so I asked if there was anyone else there experienced at matching grey hair. I was told that Allison, the owner, was. I paid $170 for silver highlights in my bangs. Unfortunately, Allison made a mess of it, giving me big yellow streaks that didn't match my hair at all, then, as an initial attempt to correct the problem, extending it all about three inches back into my natural hair. The result was terrible, dwarfing the issue I started with. The only solution at that point was to put a demi colour on the whole thing to try and get rid of the now very large section of yellowed hair and create some semblance of a unified colour. I understand that mistakes happen. Such is life. But Allison then charged me an additional $75 for the 'fix', bringing me up to $250 for my botched bangs (not to mention the hours i spent at the salon), which still don't match. I was also told that i would now need to tone this big front section of hair, now, every few weeks to keep the yellow at bay, until it grows out - in about a year or so. A very disappointing outcome and customer service experience, all round.

So I went to her as well, Laura has been my hair dresser for over 5 years and the reason why she is amazing is because she is very specific on how much you want cut off and you'll never be surprised or upset at the end. I've had tones of different hair do's such as shaved side, angled bob, front bangs..... she'll done it all for me and she does it very well!! The best part if that it won't cost you an arm and a leg. It's roughly around $30 after tax and tip for a regular cut. p.s This salon has also become my boyfriends go to place, because the barbers are well trained and excellent.

The salon itself is very beautiful, clean and modern which gives a professional picture to it. The staff are good and kind. They have provided me high-quality service, although sometimes not as good as the other times (a little below my expectations of them), but some other times (like today), they were much better than I thought and made me really happy. The only disadvantage of the salon would be it's high-price (which is a normal thing for all professional salons - yet made it expensive for customers). The girl I spoke to, Paige, was very accommodating and told me that that would be fine. She was also very helpful and friendly while I was at the salon for my appointment. I am not, however, too thrilled with my highlights...they turned out far lighter than what I'd asked for. I also wasn't a fan of the fact that my stylist, Kim, disappeared when she should have been watching to see how the colour was taking. In terms of the cut, I still maintain that a razor shouldn't be used on curly hair. The end result is that I have a lot of volume at the ends of my hair and not nearly enough at the top. I made mention of this during the cut, but I was told that this was a very sharp razor so it would be fine. It's not the worst cut I've had in my life by any means, but certainly not the best. A LOT more length was taken off than I requested as well (curly girls know how hard it is to grow your hair out and know the heartache of watching it all fall to the floor). However, the reason for my 3 star review was the lack of professionalism during my cut when Kim took a phone call. She said that it was regarding her mother (which I took to mean that her mother was ill) but the conversation (which was not in English) seemed jovial and there was lots of laughter. She was styling my hair with one hand and had the phone in the other. Not cool considering she had her next customer waiting in the chair next to mine glaring at me for my appointment going over time. I think that Kim is a very talented stylist, but she needs to learn that her customers time is precious and that they deserve her full attention during their appointment. Pelo opened up this past summer and seems to be doing well, while there was only me and one other customer, I was told that it has been busy. A haircut costs around $40 - $50, but I got a discount since it was my first time and the final cost after tip came up to around $45 which I think was reasonable for the quality of the cut and level of service I received. I booked an appointment with the guy I used to go to and his cutting style remained as good as I could remember (no surprises there) A big plus for me was just how relaxed everything felt there. One of the stylists who had no customer was wandering around cracking jokes with myself and my stylist and when my stylist had to leave to take a pretty important phone call (he asked me permission first of course) the "free" stylists kept me company and it was very nice to just feel welcome in a relaxed atmosphere with no crazy music playing loudly or anything something which is not very easy to come by in some of the more busier venues I've been to downtown. Not a lot of negatives to say apart from the already mentioned cost factor and minor location inconvenience for me (but that's just because I spend most of my downtown time a little to the East). Their set up is very similar to Toni and Guys with the whole fancy hair washes and attention to specific details and all that. If I ever needed a more than standard haircut, this will definitely be my first choice as customer service is a huge factor for me and their cutting talent is more than what I look for!
