Ok, lets get down to basics here. Pork streak was dry and looked as if it had been sitting in a warmer all day. It had a hard, tacky consistency on the outside that gave a resemblance of a crust. That was almost chewy. The sides amd sauce are the only redeeming factors. This is sad. I came for bbq. Not sides. I had originally wanted the ribs. However to my dismay, they were serving BABY BACK RIBS instead of the original ribs for which they are known for. This was and currently is, as I struggle to chew this floor mat of a pork steak, a complete and utter waste of my time. But I paid $17 for this. So I'm going to eat it. This time. Not sure why but the food is a hit and miss a times at Dexter. Sometimes they are great and sometimes Ehhh? The baked beans are pretty sweet. I enjoyed the Salad with strawberries and pecans but they are not like they once were years ago? Portions are smaller. I took my younger brother to Dexter in Cape a few times when he visited me for a week he loved it. Usually the food is pretty good had some undercooked okra one time? The meat is usually real good I buy a lot of the Pulled Pork BBQ sandwiches at drive thru when I get a craving for BBQ with the slaw on top never had any issues. Once in a blue moon you get some gristle that turn you off. As far as I can say until I find another place better it's best BBQ in Cape & Jackson area. read more

Great BBQ pulled pork sandwich and great brisket sandwich. Good value and high quality. The rest I don't know about and can't comment.

I have tried to give this business a chance on multiple occasions. It's very underwhelming. The empty parking lot speak volumes.

I give it a 1 Star... I just can't find any reason to give it more than that. The food is just blah. Very bland. Service is non existent. You have to wait on someone to come out to take your order. Then the food comes out, you eat it and then leave wishing you had gone somewhere else. read more

I have a dog named Dexter. He is amazing, knows some tricks, loves to eat, and generally makes me happy. The staff at Dexter BBQ didn't really make me that happy. Rushed to order, even as we stated it as our first time. Forks on all the tables are inside of little silverware condoms (and wet inside these plastic sheaves to boot). Food delivered by a woman wearing a drive through headset (why is there a drive thru?) who essentially grunted our order back to us and walked away after setting it down. Oh yeah, don't forget the hair stuck to the ketchup bottle, but hey, TVs with ball sports abound, so as long as you enjoy MO sports, you'll be comfy. The food was hit and miss. When I say miss, I mean baked beans that tasted like I was spooning brown sugar and molasses directly into my mouth. Way too sweet. When I say miss I mean iceberg lettuce with big ass croutons and an unidentifiable blend of shredded cheese mountain on top. But when I say hit... Wow the ribs were on point. The smoke flavor was incredible, I'm gonna need to shower to get it out of my beard! When I say hit I mean pulled pork that was easily smoked overnight that wasn't full of un-rendered fat pieces. The meat came fairly dry, I assume so that one may make use of Dexter's four signature sauces like local (Southeastern Missouri) vinegar based BBQ sauce. Bottom line, this might be the best restaurant in Jackson MO. It's defiantly not the best if you include "Cape Gerrrarrdiuuuu." These guys have been "smoking butts and taking names" since 1983, but they really should just stick to the meat. read more

Seems like things have really gone down hill since location change. I used to cater from here all the time and get really good customer service. Got things you expect when catering, order is right, ready at time requested with plates and utensils. I had to pay for plates and utensils this go around and that was the final straw. Let me know they aren't free when I placed the order, I'll figure it out rather than paying for plates and forks to be thrown into a bag and charged for settings. Disappointing. Makes me wonder if I went through the drive through or ordered to go for a personal order if I would be charged for needing a fork and knife. Bandanas and sugarfire have great catering managers that really take care of the little things and don't fret. Time for a change. Sad. read more

I travel the country for business, and when on the road am in the best BBQ establishments from coast to coast and everywhere in between. Speaking as a self-confessed BBQ snob who is not easily impressed, I would rank our Jackson, Missouri Dexter BBQ right up there with the very best of them. You can tell that the staff takes a great deal of pride in preparing quality, delicious meals. This would be a bargain at twice the price! read more

Since they've made changes, in my opinion, they've gone downhill. They quit slicing the ribs, they're using smaller ribs and the last time I got some they had so much fat on them I ended up pitching them. If they're going to downgrade they should cut the price in half. read more

I typically avoid chain restaurants but Dexter's is one of my few exceptions to the rule. Whenever my wife and I are in Jackson, we always make our way to Dexter's and we have yet to be disappointed with our entire experience - the food, the service and the overall appearance. The food is always cooked to perfection and delicious, the staff professional/courteous and the restaurant is always super clean. I always get a half-side of ribs with two sides and I'm never disappointed. I understand this is a chain so there's not a lot of flexibility in the way the operation is run but I'm absolutely pleased with Dexter's and I think you will be too. read more

My husband picked up a side of ribs to go. When he got home I asked him if he decided to order a half side because the portions were so small. Nope, we were charged for a full side of ribs that I think came from a miniature pig. Probably won't be ordering from them again... read more

Don't think this restaurant will be visited again by our family. Our ribs were so tough we each barely got through 1 of our 3 and 5 rib dinners. When I talked to the staff person about it her reply was, "Yes, I know. Some days they are just like that." And walked away! I certainly do not recommend eating at this restaurant. read more

Worst service ever. As we entered counter and requested a table for dine in meal. We were told "Order here and sit down"! We ordered payed and sat as instructed. When the meal came, we asked for our drinks, only to be instructed by Renee " Glasses are at the drink fountain"! We had to find our own napkins since none on table and no one returned to check on us the entire meal. As our family left, we passed Renee with no more professional attitude or thank you than we expected. I have been to Dexter and ordered out many times. It only takes one rude staff member to ruin an experience. read more
