Cindy Dew chose to defraud her CSA clients by not providing any produce in 2020 and not offering a remedy in 2021. We paid in advance for the 2020 season and she is using the fact that the pick up place was closed as an event beyond her control even though multiple attempts were made to seek a way to arrange an alternate pick up location (including at her farm). In 2020 the only delayed response we received from Dew Farms was a vague suggestion that we could re-coup our investment by getting the produce in 2021, but now she says that she will neither refund us nor give us produce this year. Either she planted and sold produce in 2020 but did not give us access to the produce or she chose to not plant but not refund her pre-paid customers early in 2020. She did not have control over the pandemic but she absolutely had control over the choice to grow or not and her choice to work with clients to provide pick up solutions or not. This was not an issue with a crop failure or another environmental concern (which we were told at signing was the purpose of the clause and applied to specific phases of produce harvesting, not the entire season anyway). It was an issue with poor and inflexible planning on her part a total unwillingness to communicate with her customers and honor their investment. She also provided very slow and incomplete communication throughout this entire process. So far as I am concerned she has stolen $434 from us. She obviously cares all about herself and nothing about her CSA customers or even her own reputation as a fair and honorable business. I would never reccomend working with this farm. read more

My wife & I have been Dew Farms CSA members at NOAA for 3-4 years now and have appreciated the variety of produce they bring and weekly communication about the current state of the farm. They show up weekly at the lab's campus so it's a really convenient way to get our shopping done on a lunch break. Occasionally there are crates of pickling cucumbers & other veggies available which is always fun! This is a CSA so it's not uncommon for them to miss weeks or be affected by the weather (hail, early snow, rain making the fields inaccessible) during the season. I was very excited to join a CSA here in Colorado, but buyer beware, Dew Farms is AWFUL!! It is almost August and I have yet to receive any produce. I have also been mislead by inaccurate or just plain false lists of pick up locations and times. They do not show up to their pick up locations and I have yet to see them at the Boulder farmers market. I have called and emailed multiple times but calls are never answered and emails never returned. The only correspondence has been a mass email every few weeks filled with excuses. I accept the risks involved with CSAs, but all of the other farms with CSAs are producing and providing their supporters with what they promised so the time for excuses is over. The last update we received was several paragraphs explaining that Cindy's husband has been diagnosed with emphysema and this is why there are no vegetables! That's really terrible but also irrelevant, and certainly does not give them the right to steal people's money. Just because you say "God Bless" at the end of your messages doesn't make what your doing okay. Shame, shame, shame! To top off my frustration I noticed that one member posted on their Facebook page how delicious the onions were!! So apparently they are growing something but they sure as hell aren't sharing it with everyone. How do I get on the Dew Farms favorites list? Unfortunately it's not possible to rate 0 stars-- 1 star implies we have received any product from Dew Farms. Also, it's unfortunate I can't travel back in time to see Dr. C's Yelp review before I purchased a "membership" at the Dew Farms CSA. I'll try not to parrot Dr. C's review too much, but we had very similar problems. While other CSA programs started much earlier in the year for their customers, it is now July 20th of 2015 and Dew Farms still has not started their CSA and we have not received any produce. For the "tl;dr" types-- other CSAs have started delivering produce, so go with one of them. When the CSA season did not start as advertised on June 20th, my wife and I tried to contact Dew Farms multiple times through email and telephone. As of writing this review on July 20th, none of our emails or phone calls have been returned. Periodically we have gotten emails explaining the various reasons why the CSA has not started, and then about two weeks ago we got an email from Dew Farms that the CSA would be starting at the Boulder (city) farmer's market on July 11th. When we went to the farmer's market to try and gather our CSA produce and speak to the attendants at the farmer's market stand, they were not present at the farmer's market. We spoke to the farmer's market organizers and even though Dew Farms had space reserved for a booth, they were not in the location assigned to them. The Dew Farms marketing material purports that we receive 20 weeks of CSA produce. If Dew Farms starts now (July 20th), that would put their produce delivery well into November, which, as anyone who lives in this area knows, would be impossible. Thus, Dew Farms will be unable to provide produce for as long as they promised. At this point we have filed a claim with PayPal for PayPal to refund our money. We can't contact Dew Farms, they don't go to the places they say they will be in their own emails, and as far as I can tell this is just a giant scam to take unsuspecting Boulderites' money. It's unfortunate that, in a community like Boulder, where so many residents like myself would like to support local businesses, scammers like this exist. read more

Why couldn't there be any reviews on Dew Farms last year?? Without knowing, I went ahead and purchased a Dew Farms CSA for 2015. Like all the other reviewers, this proved to be a HUGE mistake. This is quite simply the most poorly run CSA I have ever encountered. Most CSAs this year harvested about TEN TIMES as much produce for the same price. With Dew Farms, we didn't get our first shipment until the third week of July, and we got our last shipment the third week of September. Most weeks the yields were tiny (on the order of 4 carrots, 1 cucumber, and 1 tomato). In the end we spent about $5 per piece of produce, an utter rip-off. To top it off, each week we were bombarded with an email that explained why Dew Farms was failing to provide a reasonable harvest. First, it was too rainy, then it was too cold, then it was too muddy, then her husband got emphysema (sad, but unrelated to getting produce), then the city shut off their water. I almost believed that it was a freakishly bad year....until I talked to people who were getting huge shipments from other CSA's, some starting as early as May. Sorry, Dew Farms, you need to spend less time making excuses, and more time figuring out how to properly run a farming business (or get into a different business). read more

I agree with the other posters. This week we learned--from the pizza seller at Left Hand, as our "farmer" was not there--that the CSA is done for the year. It began in mid-July, giving us 11 weeks of minimal, wilted, old produce. We had a large share, which was apparently going to be much larger than the other CSAs around here offer. A weekly share was often 6 small leaves of wilted chard, a couple golf-ball size onions, and maybe a pepper. We did get a lot of zucchini for a couple weeks, but it would be difficult to not have a bumper crop of zucchini. There was an excuse every week. Too much rain (really? 1/4"?) too dry, too hot, too cold, etc. I understand that weather is always a gamble, as I am a gardener and food-grower, but this was absurd. They are a scam. read more

I am sad to report that I have to confirm all the other negative reviews here. I've been very disappointed in my CSA membership in Dew Farms. There have been no vegetables all summer except for twice where I received 3 small onions and a small bunch of greens. They repeatedly cited weather related problems for why there's been no return on investment while friends' CSAs have produced an abundance. Our first available pick up occurred beginning in mid-July. They have cancelled or failed to show on several occasions and have been late at designated pick up location on the two occasions that a pick up has been available. I've noticed though that they aren't late deducting my fee from my credit card. Won't be doing this again. read more

Dew Farms CSA has been a great experience for my family. The best thing is we choose the vegetables we like and also have the options of trying something new. We signed up for next season and have recommended Dew Farms CSA to our family and all of our friends. Another important fact is their drops are very convenient for us at our work place and their vegetables are so yummy. read more

It makes me very sad to post this because I know that farm shares come at a risk, everyone who ever signs up for a farm share understands this; however it's how these "risks" are handled and how their supporters are treated that makes a farm share a true community. My experience with Dew Farms is on par with other reviews. We had a wet spring that lasted until early June. It made sense that the crops were taking a little longer. What ended up happening afterwards was uncalled for and just consisted of mass e-mails filled with weekly excuses. One week, her husband had just been diagnosed with an illness. In that case, you hire someone to take his part because we've paid you to pick the veggies. Another week, there was no water?? Which is opposite of the beginning of the year. This is where my mind was blown. How, as a farm, do you not have control or an idea of your farm's water situation? They asked us as a community to contact Boulder for them. I'll restate what I've said: I understand natural risks like floods, bugs, and droughts but I do not understand personal excuses as a farming business that's, according to the website, apparently been around for 400 year! I was sold on the idea of being able to select which veggies I would eat and fill and entire basket! Also their online growing table showed crops through November (subject to change, of course). But this was never ever the case. My medium farm share often consisted of a 5-7 carrots and 1 zucchini. Sometimes I got a pepper and a tiny bunch of greens. I realize now that that was more than other locations on their share! As someone who wants to support their local agriculture, I am just so disappointed in the excuses, weekly heartbreaking mass e-mails, and lack of good business management and people skills. I will not sign up for Dew Farms again and would discourage anyone away from their farm until they are able to collect themselves again. read more

Warning: stay away from this place. I understand, and am comfortable with, the fact that buying into a CSA ties you to that farm's fate and the whims of nature. But poor crop yield is no excuse for piss poor customer service and communication... if anything, it should elevate it. After MONTHS of delay due to weather, pickup times and locations were finally sent via email. I left work early to make one of them: but no Dew Farms. I tried calling numerous times, no answer. Sent emails, no response. Went to the next pickup location the following day (again leaving work early), again no Dew Farms. This time I called and called and finally got through to Cindy, who informed me that the fields were "too muddy" to harvest. Several weeks later the excuse was that the smoke from wildfires was interfering with crop growth. The following week, a family member was diagnosed with a chronic illness, again barring them from doing pickups. I'm starting to think this may well be a scam. Don't waste your time here. read more

I have to add to the chorus, unfortunately. We have had CSAs with three other farms and have always had a positive experience. When you sign up you are assuming some risks, and with other farms when something has happened that has always been explained promptly, and with an apology. I honestly would have forgiven the lack of actual produce for our $300 investment if they had simply done a better job of communication. Unlike others here, we received only three emails all season long, and communication about the season ending weeks early was never shared. I have no doubt that they really did experience a bad season, but they handled it poorly and were rude to some of the people who complained. If you have a really bad year you should be extra diligent and thoughtful in your communication with customers, and they failed miserably with that. read more

Update: Again, this is opinion based on personal experience, and I have no idea how Dew Farms resolves disputes with other customers. Not only did Dew Farms refuse to resolve the situation with us directly or through the BBB, they also told us we were unwelcome to use their CSA program again. Even with documented evidence of the problem that occurred, they accused us of fabricating the situation. This problem could have been easily resolved, but they instead resorted to blaming us and refusing to resolve the issue. My only hope now is that they will learn from this experience in the future, and other participants in their CSA program will see better customer service if and when another mistake is made. As a customer, I WANT to help local businesses and I WANT to resolve disputes when they occur. But that's a two-way street, and it's impossible to find a resolution with a business that is completely unreceptive. Moral of the story: do some research before committing to a CSA share. If you are unsatisfied, there are very few resources available to you to do anything about it, so you want to work with a farm that really cares about customer satisfaction. read more
