I have an average/low spice tolerance (maybe like a 3/10 is my preferred range) and these were about all I could handle while still being happy. Aka they're not overly spicy but they definitely have a kick. The flavor is so good though I would eat these any day. The other entree, the bahn mi tasted very fresh with the pickled veggies and the pork was also really good. The chocolate wontons for dessert were a great way to cap off the meal! The surprise lemon marmalade was delish! Our server was very nice, offering many refills of water (especially with the spicy pepper lol) and timing our plates to come out perfectly. The first thing I noticed is that it's in kind of an unassuming part of Downtown Omaha. I'd call it off the beaten path for sure, and after chatting with some folks I know in Omaha I got the vibe that it maybe isn't in the most common part of town to explore as a tourist BUT I kind of loved that. This part of town feels lived in, authentic, and maybe a bit up and coming, like it's going through it's own sort of revitalization. All of that being said, I felt safe, and I knew I'd love dining here when I approached the building and there was a group of regulars gathered outside soaking up the sun that greeted us. One of them said "those are the days" to his buddies, upon seeing us with two little kids in tow and I honestly enjoyed hearing that little reminder to try and soak up these long but important days with our girls. Once inside I had some of the best hospitality I've had ever at a restaurant. The server was top notch - so friendly, answered all questions, and really made us feel at home. I'd return just for the vibes and service alone. We ordered burgers as it's in the name! They were good - I was I think expecting to be blown away given the reviews and blown away I was not, BUT I was really impressed with the onion rings, the burger was solid, and I'd not hesitate to return. The cherry on top? The owner was making the rounds - Louie himself! - and he was so kind, and thoughtful. The Sickies Burger apparently never received that memo. This is a signature burger that signs its name in calligraphy. This was my first visit, and Daylen was an outstanding guide through a menu containing enough choices to trigger a minor decision-making crisis. He was exceptionally friendly, helpful, and genuinely interested in figuring out what would best satisfy my craving. His recommendation was the Sickies Burger with waffle fries, and the man knew exactly what he was doing. The waffle fries were quite good, but they never had a fair chance of becoming the main attraction. They had been seated next to a burger that walked in, took control of the table, and began giving interviews. The Sickies Burger has all the right ingredients, but the pièce de résistance is its hot sauce. It is not particularly spicy; it is simply loaded with flavor. There also isn't much of it, so it doesn't appear in every bite. Ordinarily, inconsistent sauce distribution might be a flaw. Here, it turns lunch into a culinary scavenger hunt. Every few bites, the hot sauce suddenly returns and reminds you why you ordered the restaurant's autograph burger. The dining room also deserves credit. There was plenty of seating, the tables weren't packed together like economy passengers, and the restaurant remained comfortably quiet despite having a good crowd. Even the background music was kept at a reasonable volume, allowing people to enjoy dinner without communicating through hand signals. The lighting could be brighter, though. By evening, "mood lighting" might be the most generous technical description. The only real negative was an unpleasant background odor when I entered--something reminiscent of dirty dishwater. I noticed it throughout the meal and was never quite able to tune it out. It wasn't powerful but it didn't add to the experience, either. All in all, Daylen provided excellent service, the atmosphere was refreshingly comfortable, and that burger was amazing. I came in as a first-time customer trying to narrow down the menu. I left knowing exactly what I would order again: the burger confident enough to put the restaurant's name on it and talented enough to deserve the signature.
