Dad and I were on a road trip to see the UPRR Museum in Downtown Council Bluffs. We figured that we'd have lunch near there, but it was lunch time at Neola, and after a stop at the nearly Kum & Go, I found Buck Snort via a Yelp search. And after a short drive, we arrived at this cool little restaurant in small town Downtown Neola. As it turns out, this place is part of a local chain with other locations in 6 other local spots. CONS - None PROS 1. Easy access from I-80, especially if you know how to find this place. 2. Warm and inviting interior, with nice booth/table seating, at counter ordering, and friendly local clientele. 3. Buck Snort is a largely a burger and fries joynt with a number of interesting menu twists and unique names like the Boom Boom Pow! Burger. 4. Dad's choice was the "Brunch Burger", including egg, bacon and tots. He really enjoyed it. 5. I went more conventional with a cheese burger and tots. Outstanding. my mom and I stopped on our way home from omaha for lunch. you order and pay at the counter, then sit down. I ordered a seltzer, mom got skunked, no wine, but we decided to stick it out. they gave us drink glasses, you fill your own. we ordered fried cauliflower as an appetizer, they were so good. a nice portion. I tried the Asian sauce and ranch to dip them into.we split the honey knocker chicken sandwich on a regular bun rather than the pretzel bun. they cut it on half and gave us two plates. it was tasty. the service was excellent and they dont charge for every sauce you get. my Seltzer was only $2, talk about sticker shock in reverse. if i didn't live 2 hours away, i would be there regulaty. the manager or owner (assuming) was great, explained everything to is, inquired of we were splitting it and should they cut it in half for us, they did check in with us as we ate to make sure if everything was good. Restrooms were clean, restaurant was clean. it has a hunting vibe. if you can't handle dead animals on the wall, this is not your place, or try take out. read more

Fun little diner off of interstate 80. Very clean and food was good. We will stop again during our travels that take us that way.

Driving from CO to PA, decided to stop in Neola to check out The Buck Snort. When we walked in most of the tables were full. There were six of Iowa's best (the highway patrol) enjoying their meals. We were greeted by Jacob Reid who gave us the run down on all the food options. Super friendly and knowledgeable. I had the boneless wings with two different sauces: Sweet Chili Asian and Teriyaki. Both tasted great and a nice portion. My husband had the Crispy Chicken Wrap with the spicy Buffalo. He really enjoyed it. We shared a side of the fries and they were nice and crispy. Jacob stopped by our table to see how we were doing. He then offered to bring us some sides of the homemade ranch dressing. It was awesome! If I'm ever out this way again, I would stop! read more

Surprisingly amazing BBQ on a cross-country drive. We stopped here on our way from Chicago to Denver. I ordered the Swamp Donkey Burger which has Brisket and Onion Rings with a 1/3 pound patty and waffle fries on the side. Delicious. Tremendous value. Service was charming and friendly, essentially everything one would expect from small town Iowa. The interior has a rustic feel with some outdoor seating available. Just passing through and we were really hungry. Couldn't wait to get to Des Moines to eat. Wanted a local spot. Found Buck Snort on Yelp. Decided to take a chance because the reviews were good. We were very pleased with the food and service. I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was just enough to satisfy my hunger. Hubby had the Swamp Donkey and it was way more food than he could eat. We shared the sweet potato fries and they are not to be missed! There must be magic in the fry oil here, it makes everything taste yummy! On our way through town, we diced it was too late to cook dinner at home and took a hard right off the main highway to stop here for a family dinner. The Good: Our burgers were delicious, and the bar atmosphere was fitting. I remember when there was just one before growing to many locations in the area so far, they have done a great job of replicating the flair of the first one The Bad: My burger was extremely greasy, which made it hard to eat. Ya ya, I know everyone likes their burgers differently. The Ugly Truth: For a get-together with friends or just a bite over lunch, this smaller establishment is a great stop for some greasy bar food, fountain soda, and a small assortment of bottled beers. Totally worth the stop for a hungry soul. We were traveling to Omaha from DSM and usually there isn't much, but I'm glad I found this. Recommend it for the road trip, motorcycle stop or whatever. Welcomed with a smile when we walked in. She asked if we'd ever been there. Since we hadn't she had us belly up to the order counter. The interior was all hunter decor. Many many antlers. Cozy seating, booths and tables. There is outdoor seating. There is also garage doors that could open but they said they don't anymore. Outside is a sand volleyball court and more room. She gave us the run down of the menu. They are known for their Swamp Donkey burger. They have a few every unique delicious looking burgers. I wanted to try the pickle fries. A perfect ratio of pickle and batter. Usually I'm partial to spears cause I love my pickle. Hubby got the Non Typical Buck Burger. A monster of i it's own having pulled pork on the beef patty AND Cheese Sticks on it... on it..I repeat. Hubby would definitely eat it again. I liked it too. I got the seasonal special Turkey, bacon, avocado wrap. Then we got the waffle fries and drink side combo for 2 bucks. Grabbed a seat and our pickles followed quickly. This new restaurant did not disappoint. You order at the front desk. Very high tech payment system. Tablet based. You can text your receipt to your phone. I had their brisket sandwich. Packed with brisket. You pick your condiments. I added onion and dill pickles. I chose their spicy bbq sauce. It was smoky and had a nice kick. My friend had the pulled pork with onion and jalapeño. He chose the house bbq sauce. Again nice and smoky with a nice vinegary, sweet balance. Of course we split a side of onion rings because what else with bbq? They have a nice beer selection. We both tried their Buck Snort label ale. It is specially brewed for them. It was a nice smooth hoppy beer. Pleasant decor. Lots of wood. Decent sized bar. Service staff are friendly. We sought out the owner. He told us they are building an outdoor area on the rooftop for more tables al fresco. This is a local Iowa franchise. There are now 8 locations and two more are coming soon. Rural Iowa welcomes them. We will eat there often. read more

A friend and I stopped in after going to the pizza place across the street, and finding out they were closed. We found this place by the recommendations of the Casey's gas station attendant. To my surprise the rib tips were delicious, and also had the patty melt. Will definitely be back after exploring the Loess Hills Area. read more

We are so glad we did! My husband had the non-typical burger and waffle fries and would definitely order again... He loved it. Buck Snort is a nice little 'burgers and sandwiches' restaurant in a small town in Iowa. I went here for Hoo-Doo Days this past Sunday and Buck Snort is just what I needed. I didn't order food, but I had tastes of what my friends got and it was delicious. The prices were generally okay, but it swayed towards the high end. But I'm a cheap eater. The service was great. The cashier was extremely nice and the inside was clean and decorative. There aren't too many seats inside but they have a volleyball area in the back with more room. All in all, I can't wait to come out and have some food of my own at the Buck Snort. read more

The great reviews of this place enticed us to pull off of I80 and explore a new small town. We were thrilled that they were open on a Sunday evening, and based on what we saw, a lot of other customers were happy about that too! There is plenty of street parking around the building and it is easy to find in town. The decor is a little more rustic with lots of antlers inside. The Sunday night football game was on and we felt nice and cozy on a cold night. I especially like the giant Christmas stockings on the wall that were collecting toys for donations. There are both booths and tables for seating. You order at the counter when you enter. We grabbed menus to read through at our table first. The other customers heard us mentioning a couple of options and were happy to give us their recommendations - a sure sign of a great place. I had the swamp donkey which was highly recommended, and it did not disappoint . The burger was topped with 6 great sliced of brisket and 3 giant onion rings. That alone would have filled me up, but we also ordered a small side of waffle fries to split. I'm eager to go back and try some of the other options - all of the sandwiches sounded spectacular, and the pizza looked great too. We had a chance to visit with the owner a little bit (when he wasn't busy with the constant stream of customers) and enjoyed learning about the business. read more

My vegetarian girlfriend demanded I meet her here for lunch one day...and I live in Omaha! While I made the trip she talked me through the menu and hearing someone say "Oh...you have to eat a swamp donkey!" may be one of oddest things you'll ever hear out of context. I didn't even look at the menu, at first, and ordered the Swamp Donkey. She quickly ordered corn fritters and cheese balls before I knew what happened. She ordered the nachos, without meat, and I waited eagerly for this burger of legend. I'm not a small man...but this burger made me question if I could finish it without going into a food coma. Since my introduction to the Buck Snort I've been back several times. They opened a location in Council Bluffs so I can get my fix without the road trip! ...Thanks guys! read more

This was a fast stop off of I-80. I had the BBQ brisket sandwich, and it was tender with plenty of meat and sauce. There was a variety of sandwiches, salads, wraps and pizza on the menu, as well as homemade desserts. It was family friendly, with coloring/puzzle pages and buckets of crayons for the kids. Bucksnort is definitely our go to place for good food in Neola! After moving out here a couple years ago we have probably had Bucksnort a couple times a month and we love bringing out Big city friends in and showing off the amazing food and awesome atmosphere! My favorite is the swamp donkey burger that comes loaded with Brisket onion ring and homemade BBQ sauce. The pulled pork is better than most and after trying everything on the menu I would feel comfortable recommending anything. Beer is cheap which us always a plus! The atmosphere is awesome with European deer mounts, old bows, guns, and fishing gear hanging everywhere. An outdoors persons dream! Two huge overhead doors open up to the sand volleyball area and there is outdoor seating in front and out back. They host classic car and bike nights with beer as cheap as .93 cents. Can't beat that. I don't normally give good ratings to low to mid priced sandwich joints but Bucksnort is far more than that! read more
