The way it works is that you tell the people behind the counter that you want to do the wine tasting, and then you add an amount of money onto a card. A small taste of wine might cost anywhere from $1 to $3, and a full glass might range from $3 to $6 or more, depending on the bottle. What I love about this system (the Wine-o-Matic) is that I can take my time, look at all of the options, process what I've looked at, and make a decision about what I want to drink without having to speak to anyone. This is a wine-loving introvert's dream! The lounge area where the Wine-o-Matic is located is very comfy -- there are couches and tables, as well as little nibbles available. I loved dispensing my wine into my glass, and then sitting back and enjoying the wine while relaxing in a comfortable and comfy room. The wine tasting room is a separate room from the rest of the store, so it was quiet while I was there, which I appreciated. Like I said, I visited Vintage a couple of times while I was in Elkhart Lake. One of the times, I visited to buy some local beer. They have individual cans, so you can create your own six-pack. They (of course) have Spotted Cow. There are also all kinds of gourmet food items, kitchen things and gifts. This is a really neat place to hang out or find a gift for the wine- or beer-loving person in your life.

The pre-order and parking lot pick-up option is a great time saver. This is especially important, because this is the area where Total Wine struggles - there are never, ever enough people working the registers and the lines to check out almost always suck. They have a couple of TVs on for games and such (Brewers/Braves game was going on) and every table area had cards or board games. They have you do a tab, but that tab works for the cigar lounge and the bar, but no cigars in the bar. There's also 3 tables where you can sit and smoke outside. We didn't sit out there because it was full. We'll happily stop here again when we return to town. We'll be back for a game someday.

Five stars for variety alone! Unfortunately though, they and their distributors don't seem to remove old stock from the shelves. Too many times I've found beers over one year past their expiration dates. Now that I'm paying attention, I won't be shopping here nearly as much anymore. And while they advertise their low sale prices, they don't mention their everyday prices are actually a bit higher than other local stores. Charging more money than at other local shops for expired products is not a smart way to conduct business. If more people pay attention, the store's reputation will not necessarily keep the doors open. Please do better.
