I came in with my newborn son and my mom, and after waiting a few minutes without being acknowledged we walked up to the front desk to ask for help. A staff member assisted us and showed a few bands. When I found one I liked, I asked if it could be made in yellow gold. She said she would check with the vendor and offered to clean my engagement ring so I could look at the bands with my clean ring. After a few minutes, she returned with my ring, and when I asked to try on another band, she told us she was now helping someone else and couldn't assist us further.This was surprising since she had been helping us the entire time up to that point. Upon the initial visit I met with one of the owners, Kevin who was very friendly and was able to assist us with determining the proper sizing of the ring. He mentioned it would take about a week to complete. The cost to resize (1 size down) a gold ring and platinum ring was $120. When picking up the rings I met with the other owner, Nick. He included sale's tax even though CA sale's tax is only applicable to purchasing materialistic items and not services. I explained that CA sale's tax is not applicable to services and he could verify this information with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) which is the CA State Department that administers the Seller's Permit which is required to operate the business. I even offered to show him exactly where this information could be found on the CDTFA website since he had a computer nearby. He declined and said he wasn't changing how he charges customers even though he refunded me the illegally charged sale's tax. It was interesting to encounter a business owner oblivious to the law while declining to learn and apply the law to prevent an audit, fees, and potential Seller's Permit revocation by the CDTFA.

I will preface this with the fact that my ring was done by someone else, not Purnell. I had gone…read moreinto this business needing my ring sized down half of a size, to round out my band & tighten the prongs of the diamond. He quickly got it done, which was great. When my husband went to pick up my ring, a diamond was missing on my band... Purnells did not notice the missing diamond. Purnells asked for another hour to fix the missing diamond. After wearing my ring for a few hours, I noticed the prongs on the right side (shown in picture) are closer together than the left side making them uneven. He also nicked (leaving a dent) 3/4 of the prongs while trying to tighten the diamond I am assuming? He was trying to sell us on rebuilding my whole ring, which we did not need. But now I will have to get my ring redone because of the unevenness & damage to the prongs. Not impressed & now will be spending more money to fix his mistakes.
