The fillings for both cakes was chocolate and strawberry cream filled. It was sooo good! For both cakes I paid a little over $200. I highly recommend this place! Bought a cake for Mother's Day. They would not write on it because they were "to busy" with custom orders. Really? I'm a paying customer just like the rest. I paid $32 for a plain cake. I ordered a 60th birthday cake for my moms birthday party for the 9th of February. How does Kelly do it? How does she seem to make those cupcakes so darn moist and tender? We've all had cupcakes but they do not taste or remotely feel the same. The first thing I noticed upon my first bite... MOIST! It almost felt like the center had a little bit of lemony custard. I could be wrong but it tastes sooo good. The frosting was soft and light unlike many cupcake places where they use so much butter that the frosting becomes too rigid. And it's not tooth-achingly sweet. Ahem..talking to you Frost Me Sweet. I've eaten at Cupcake Royale, Yellowleaf cupcake, Flying Apron, and many other dessert places all over Seattle and Bellevue and I must admit, this place is phenomenal and definitely on the must-try list if you're ever in Tri-Cities. The baklava my hubby tried said it was perfect. Crispy phyllo dough with a moist center. He said the ratio of nuts and honey was spot-on. The mini apple pie was one of my favorites. It reminded me of good old fashion grandma's pie where you could taste the apples in each bite and it wasn't liquidy. We tried the lemon sour cream cupcake, baklava, apple pie, snickerdoodle, pecan sandie, a lemon bar and spritz. Loved it all. You can tell it's homemade and made with love and care. The ladies there were so sweet and thorough. They took a pic of the cake I had in mind. My husband went to pick it up and I saw it when he got home. It was EXACTLY like the picture. I'm updating my last review. I said I would never go back, but my family has not found another cake we like better. Ever since I had my run in with the little old lady, she's improved her attitude. They are still a weird bunch, they still don't answer the phone, and they still don't take debit cards. I've learned to work around it. I try to go two days before the birthday and I make sure to have cash or a check book. We've learned to never buy an all chocolate cake with chocolate icing. It's death by chocolate. If you love chocolate cake get the one with one layer chocolate and one layer white cake. They best is white cake with raspberry filling, with Red Velvet coming in a close 2nd. I can tell you why people love this place - Kelly can COOK. I am fortunate enough to dine in a wide variety of restaurants and it is rare that any even match Kelly's stuff. Light texture, lots of flavor, amazingly well prepared. The cookies are great too. We had Kelly make our wedding cake and received numerous compliments from all who attended. She is gifted when it comes to frosting. If you are looking for a smiling teenager to kiss your butt when you arrive like so many chain restaurants, this ain't the place. Kelly shares space with a sports memorabilia store. Neither appear to terribly interested in being there to serve customers. They aren't fast or slow and there isn't any chit-chat. Figure out what you want, ask for it politely, pay and move along and everyone will be just fine. Sure, it would be nice if the people were friendly and fresh off of the last episode of the Hills, they had neato decor, lots of newspapers, matching aprons, a beverage selection, and maybe some cd's and accessories for sale. If this were the case, it would be Starbucks and the cakes would cost twice as much and the place would have no soul, just like every other stupid mini-mall. Starbucks is all that is wrong with America: true character is found in places like Kelly's and those who frequent them. I feel like it's only fair I review this place after my mom on a regular basis buys out pretty much the whole bakery. My family LOVES Kelly's desserts! She has something for literally everyone! My mom who is very picky gets these flourless chocolate cakes (called Alexander's) that are dark chocolate goodness! Kelly also makes the cutest birthday cakes that are always delicious.
