In a word, disorganized. The main problem I had was their complete failure to return messages. I could not even track them down for a quote, though they had come out to measure. I had to track down my own samples too. No one ever called to say they were in. On one occasion after I had waited two weeks for samples, I decided I'd have better luck if I popped in. Here was my first glimpse into the way things are run in the office. Many samples were still in envelopes unopened clearly for days at at time, others were stuffed in this cabinet or that drawer. He looked for samples in the front and samples in the back, but nothing and I mean nothing was side -marked. I have no idea how any one gets their samples. Durning my measure I mentioned that we were up to a year out on cpt (cash flow). I could tell right away that I was going to be treated differently. Though i made a selection and called it in, the quote did not come. I thought they were just running late on quotes so decided "No rush," I was after all just getting ahead of the game making an early selection and getting a budgeting figure. But things change and we decided to get our cpt. and moulding sooner than later. So I'd leave messages. When they did not get returned I decided to just let the Hollidays pass and try again when things calmed down. In total I left three phone and three walk-in messages over the course of a couple months. When I'd mention that I had tried several times to get a quote and that I'd left several messages, the floor sales person made disparaging remarks about the management and how "sick he was" of all the delinquency and the way things were run. Not a good sign. In all fairness, my last call was returned about 2 months later. Sad to say I went through one more really flaky flooring business before deciding to stick with a business that gets mostly 4 and 5 stare Yelp reviews. I went with MAC Flooring and so far my experience with customer service there is the difference between a Motel 6 and the St. Regis. read more

i ordered from these folks because I needed carpet on a certain day for a house sale. They committed to that day and then that day they called to say they were over-booked and under-staffed. Surprise! it wasn't done on time. Then they royally screwed up the invoicing and accounting by trying to double collect on their invoice. They are super-nice good salespeople. The execution is not as good as their excellent sales skills. read more

It began with a kitchen remodel a year ago and just finished up with new laminate flooring in our living areas. RJ and Kevin provided excellent prices, friendly service and quality contractors. They wanted our satisfaction and not just our business. Hard to find these days. Mark M San Clemente read more

We wanted to continue wood flooring in our house but we were having a hard time finding a wood to match. The wood we had in our house was discontinued. Designer's Magic not only carried a wood that matched they made the two woods flow as if they went in together. I found Designer Magic to be very reasonably priced, fast and extremely efficient. The quality of their work is very impressive. Their customer service is professional. I am very pleased with our new wood floors and our decision to hire Designer's Magic! read more

Worst place I have ever tried to do business with. As I left the store a lady walking by warned me to not buy from them. She was so right!

Designer's Magic just installed a beautiful laminate over our entire main floor and staircase. RJ was pleasant to work with and very accommodating when two days before our install I decided to change the materials we had ordered. He quickly ordered the new material and took care of returning the old material for us without a hitch and we were able to keep the same install date. As far as the install, their team worked hard and fast and completed it in one day. The floors look beautiful and the staircase looks perfect! We are very happy with our experience! read more

I went in to the show room and I was impressed at the reasonable prices. I wanted to keep business locally here in San Clemente but I also didn't want to have to pay a lot. After I settled on a color and a type of wood flooring that I liked, RJ and I agreed on an installation date. When the day came, RJ and his team arrived promptly and they did a top-notch quality installation job at my home! I feel like my house looks more modern and it looks and feels so much better! I do not miss my old carpet, and I am completely in love with the Dark wood floors. The service and quality is five star from beginning to end. read more

We came back two years later to finish flooring the remaining rooms in our home. RJ and his team continue to exceed our expectations. We took home a few flooring samples and on the recommendation of Keith, in their office, took a third sample that was a bit different in color. Surprised us but we went with his recommendation. Their team came in and did a great job installing, and their paint crew followed the next day and professionally painted the baseboards and 1/4 inch added rounds to tie in all the rooms. We are very happy with the service and quality of material. Our home looks brand new. Give them a try...You will not be disappointed... read more

Can't say enough about the team at designers magic! Especially Steven who helped us with carpet for our stairs! They made sure we were completely satisfied with the carpet! They have a huge selection of products and everyone including the installers did a professional job.! Five stars ! read more

I really like supporting local family business. They were very helpful and had a great selection of products! RJ met with me and was very professional. I was very happy with the finished remodel! The installation was done on time and kept things neat. Thank you Osborne family! read more

We recarpeted two rooms using Designer's Magic and couldn't have been more pleased. Being avid Costco customers, and having had Costco vendors do our carpeting years before, we assumed Costco would get our business this time also. But Designer's Magic not only beat Costco's price with the same carpet quality, Designer's Magic customer service was terrific and seriously outshone Costco's. Their attentiveness during our selection and purchase stage was superb, and their follow thru on scheduling and installation was perfect. We also like that they support our community in several different ways. read more

This summer we worked with designers magic to replace our carpeting with vinyl plank flooring and re-carpet are stairs. We are thrilled with the results! We have worked with designers magic over the years on several different projects and have never been disappointed! Steven patiently worked with us at length. He and the rest of the team were kind, helpful and made every effort to give the most competitive price possible. We're very happy to be able to refer them to anybody looking for new flooring! read more

We had a great experience with Designer's Magic. We had gone to both Home Depot and had measurements done with quotes and even checked Lowe's. Then that night I saw Richard car with info for his company on it, and I decided to try a quote from him just in case, since he said he beats their prices. Sure enough, they showed us great options, we're able to do the carpet install in less than a week time, when both Home Depot and Lowe's said 3 weeks would be the shortest turn around. The installer's were kind and positive (a father and son team), and even Richard did the measurement himself. His son had helped us get the right solution in the store as well (another father son team). Everything went great, and it looks fantastic. So happy I supported a local small business and that we also saved time and money! read more

We have done over a dozen projects with Designer Magic without reading the reviews so we were quite stunned with some of the negative ones. Richard and RJ and the rest of the staff have been great as have been the installers. We have used services like this for our homes and rentals in at least 4 different counties over the years and Designer Magic has been among the best. The price usually beats everyone and both the selection and the expertise is the real difference. Recently we purchased over $2000 in flooring for a self install and had to return it--even though at first the supplier balked, DM found a way to return it and makes us whole. We have used them for wood floors, laminates, carpeting and area rugs. Simply the best. Michael and Pam Martello read more

We shopped a lot of carpet stores and designers magic gave us the best price. As far as the carpet they provided us with plenty of samples and were very helpful in choosing what suited our needs. Carpet is carpet, it's all about the installation. The installers were fast, professional and did an excellent job. We are extremely pleased with the whole experience. Gary , Laguna Beach read more

I had to call 3x before I could get a call-back on a small job estimate. I finally got the order placed, waited for the call that it was done, no call. I called them, they "lost my phone number." Again? Really? Picked up the rug, took it home-- and it was cut to the wrong size! We took it back, waited for a phone call that it was done. No phone call. We went back again to pick it up-- and not even a "sorry." My parents ran their own businesses, and this isn't how a small business should be run! Never the word sorry- just excuses each time for lack of call-backs, the the wrong sized carpet-- which WE had to take back, pick up again. read more

Rudest most disorganized company ever! There are plenty of great flooring companies in the OC that care about customer service - not these guys! read more

I absolutely LOVED doing business with this company. Their prices were far more than fair and beat the "big box stores" near me. In the showroom, they helpful and knowledgeable, and gave me samples to take home. They met my needs when I had to change dates at the last minute. Their installers were very professional and left my home spotless. It's been two months since my new carpet was installed and I love it so much. I can't say enough about this family-owned business and the superior work they did for me. So glad I shopped local and supported this company. read more

I totally agree with everyone that said to avoid this place like the plague!! So true that Richard totally changes his personality after he gets your business. He lied about the installation time among other things...the job was sloppy, I've had other professionals in my house that couldn't even believe how bad the workmanship was. The guys a jerk! When the workers were supposed to show up at 9am and still weren't there at 11:00 he actually asked me what the "big deal" was! Unbelievable!!! read more

We have used this family owned business in San Clemente in the past with great results. We needed ro replace rugs in 3 bedrooms with laminate. After checking other businesses we knew that Designers Magic Flooring was the place to go again. They were prompt, responsive, and did an excellent job. The whole family was great: Richard, R.J. and Kevin. However in protecting our very old tiles the taped down canvas when removed stripped off the sealer and left strips on the tile. They immediately volunteered to correct the problem and stripped and resealed all the tiles in that area includung those not affected. What more could we ask? Great job! read more

My family went into their showroom and a hardwood floor sample fell off of the wall and onto my three year-old. I emailed them and received a very unapologetic response. I prefer to support local small businesses, but they lost their opportunity. We ended up at LA Carpet in San Juan Capistrano and just had 1800 sq feet of carpet installed. The did a great job and I'd highly recommend them...ask for Kevin. read more

I received a quote on a carpet I really liked from them and later spoke with an interior designer friend of mine that told me I was being way over charged. I received a second bid on the same exact carpet for over a thousand dollars less. I did allow Designers Magic to price match. Besides the installer being nearly an hour late I had no other issues with them. They were friendly and nice and helpful. BUT do your research on pricing before you commit! read more

It was an absolute pleasure dealing with the staff at Designer's Magic. I tend to be a little picky about things and I look for high standards of quality and competitive pricing. The majority of my home is carpeting and I wanted a specific type of low profile carpet and color. Designer's Magic made arrangements for a custom dyed sample that was a perfect match. The installation was done in one day by three of the most caring and dedicated workers I could have wanted. The installers worked from 8:30 am to 9:30 pm and they would not quit until the job was done right. Needless to say I am very pleased with the outcome and I want to personally thank all the staff at Designer's Magic! read more

When I started looking around at different carpet stores, I choose Designer's Magic because their bid was fair and they were able to start the job within the week. Richard and RJ were very helpful and allowed me to take a couple samples home. I went in the store on a Monday and the job was completed by Friday. The installers were nice and neat. They did a really nice job and I was very pleased with the overall service. HIGHLY RECOMMEND read more

We were very happy with the service we got from Richard and his sons. We had a tight time frame and they completed our project as they promised. Absolutely outstanding experience. I ordered carpet for three bedrooms and staircase. The installation was flawless and very professional. The whole team is great. I'd use them again!! read more

Unfortunate for his helpful and friendly staff, Richard was not. Jerry Seinfeld could have modeled his Soup Nazi TV show character on this guy (how dare I ask about fees and services). Square foot prices do not include shipping from his supplier to his store or 2% Visa charge. If I had not already purchased the flooring from him I would have cancelled. I did not have them install and would not recommend doing business with this rude man. Absolutely NOT customer friendly. read more

Designer's Magic made a beautiful wall to wall, bound, rug with a thick padding for my bedroom. No more cold slate floors to step on! The prices were very competitive. Designer's Magic recently installed hardwood floors throughout our home downstairs. Primarily we worked with Kevin but also had positive interactions with RJ and Richard. Kevin was prompt with his appointments and phone calls and always kept us informed as to the progress of our installation. The installers were skilled and worked quickly but accurately with attention to details. When finished our home was left clean and orderly. Overall we were extremely pleased with Designer's Magic professional customer service and installation. Our floors look AWESOME and we would highly recommend them for any hardwood installation big or small! read more

We couldn't give a higher score, because there isn't one. We hope there the next time so we can go back. Great!!!!

Recently just remodeled our place with hardwood floors downstairs and carpet in the bedrooms. Kevin helped us design our products and got us a great deal. We original got an estimate from Lowe's and Designer's Magic beat their quote. Very happy with our new floors. Highly recommended. read more

INITIAL IMPRESSION: very good: reasonable pricing and helpful staff. The floor as installed looked quite nice. The problems began almost immediately when the flooring started to bubble. RJ was called as soon as we noticed it and we were told it was our fault (!) because the weather was so hot and humid in San Clemente we should have left every window open, the fans going, or the A/C on. Really? A/C in San Clemente? Anyway, we asked for someone to come out and look at the problem. RJ came out and agreed there was a problem. Then the installer came out and said there was a problem. Again we were told we created the problem. But they could repair it, just not right away due to their work load. Apparently they are so busy with new work they cannot find time to fix mistakes. And this was a mistake: not enough expansion space was left for the wood flooring. They are supposed to be the experts and yet they did not account for a hot, humid summer and blamed us. Because this is a vacation home we are not there every day. We had to schedule the repair when we would be there. But we were visiting the apartment on at least a weekly basis and the bubble got so severe we put painter's tape on it to warn people of the tripping hazard. Called RJ multiple times to see if someone could come out and make a temporary repair and I was repeatedly told no, basically I had to wait my turn, because, after all "it was caused by us". When they finally did show up, they were late. Repairs have been made. Now we are waiting to see if the problem re-appears. FINAL IMPRESSION: Customer service was horrid! If there is a problem, prepare to wait for assistance in fixing their mistakes. Apparently they are VERY interested in getting new business but NOT in keeping business. read more

Searched quite a few flooring companies trying to find the right floors for our house. Designer Magic had a great selection, was knowledgeable and promptly came by to measure and provide a bid for the work. The floors look great and we enjoyed working with the entire Designer Magic team-Thanks! read more
