Tompkins did a great job on our recarpeting. Someone came out right away to measure and advise, then we went over to look at their selection of carpets (which is vast). Scheduling was quick and even though I had to reschedule twice, they were very accommodating. Our house is not huge but we do have 3 bedrooms and stairs. I was told that it would take 2-3 days but it actually took a day and a half! They also did a nice job of disassembling and reassembling our bed frames, etc. I would highly recommend them! read more

Everything can be improved. 1)Salesperson promised install before July 22 but the scheduler called 1 week later saying the earliest date would be Aug 6. 2)Somehow I wasn't put on the schedule and was then told the earliest would be Aug 18. 3)They moved the install up to today and the installers come but said they can't do the job because my condo is on the second floor and they didn't know so don't have the right concrete. We live in Laguna Niguel and needed new flooring for 3,500 sq ft home. I visited about 7 flooring places. By far Tompkins felt the best. Family owned, long time staff, knowledgeable and kind. Megan was easy to work with, she is very responsive. They let me bring home a ton of samples and them as long as I needed to figure out which sample worked. It took awhile figuring things out, and they were so patient, and always professional. They installed beautiful luxury vinyl upstairs and downstairs. And a carpet runner up our stairs which looks amazing!!!! It has a pattern. You can count on them 100%. They treat you like family and will advocate for you if needed on anything they install/carry. After 7 years, our stairs were filthy, and cleaning didn't help. But the rest of the house was fine. We tried to match our existing Berber carpeting, but that was impossible. He came out lugging a bunch of sample boards and let me keep them a few days and walk all over them. I picked the one I liked first off in the showroom! But it's nice to be sure. Then he did the measuring, got me a great quote, and it was easy. Victor & Alex came to install. They were efficient, tidy and easy to work with. I had a billion questions and kept calling Courtney. I'm afraid I was "THAT customer." But he was kind and patient and wonderful. And when I didn't like the way something looked... they came right out and fixed it. Their dime. Even when it was my change of mind. If you're like me, and have a hard time making up your mind, trusting people to do stuff right, and have loads of questions... Use Tomkins. In the plus column, great variety of flooring, fair prices, communicative, easier to deal with than the big flooring stores, one stop shopping, and flexible scheduling. Overall, I am happy with the floor style and color. In the minus column, once I fully paid, my messages were not returned. The installers scratched a brand new bathtub as they put the toilet in the tub to do the flooring in the bathroom, they also scratched up baseboards, and the installation in the bathroom has a gap on each side adjacent to the bathtub (no moulding, no caulking, and not even a little grout). I even went to the store to inquire, and was told that I can put caulking in the gaps. I was also told that I needed to call back. Why wouldn't the installers fill in the gaps? The gaps are not really nice to look at. And why do I have to call back? I already had left several messages. Most of the scratches I was able to wipe away with a Mr. Clean eraser, but there are still a couple of chips on the tub. I did expect a more from a family run business. read more

On a Monday I need a carpet sample and was told they would have it by Friday of that week. Returned on Friday and there was NO sample. Was told they would have it on Tuesday of the following week so I left my phone number and asked them to call me when it came in. They called and said it was in. I went to the store and NO the sample was NOT in, the rep. had sent the wrong pieces. At this I said this is NO way to run a business and asked to speak with the owner. I had to ask 3x's for his name and all I got was Jim. I told Jim he had just lost himself $5k of business and he told me he didn't care and told to leave or he would call 911. Julian communicated very well from the time he first answered the phone, when I came to buy, when my carpet color choice wasn't available (on such short notice) and I had to choose again, etc. On the day of installation, he showed up on time, with the team of Pancho and Samuel. They did exactly what they were supposed to do at a very rapid pace, called me when I needed to clarify something and got the job done, very well in one day!!! Tompkins Flooring Laguna Niguel is definitely who I would recommend to anyone who asks me! If I'd only gone to Tompkins, I would have saved myself a lot of stress and frustration, and we'd still be on schedule. We did it right the second time. We ended up purchasing even better quality carpet and pad, that was available locally and quickly, to try and get back on schedule I talked with Julian & the two other members of the nice sales team on Monday, and the gorgeous carpet of our choice was very professionally installed within days! Julian actually called me to wait a day to make sure it would be done by one of the best install teams! Julian supervised and helped protect the other flooring downstairs. We went over some quick issues regarding the pattern and blending. Before I knew it, the guys had already moved the 2 pieces of furniture and removed all the carpet and padding from upstairs in minutes. Julian, Julio, the manager and the owner all wanted to make it right for us, and they certainly did! I had just had a horrible experience with another company that day. A sub "non-professional" installer, showed up late and alone!!!, to do all our carpet work in one day, as promised. That guy also didn't care if he damaged any of the recently repaired and newly painted walls, and if he did, he wouldn't pay. Our whole renovation schedule had been thrown off by a minimum of a week due to that sub's poor decision-making to come by himself! Other pros told me there was no way he could have done our whole upstairs and staircase carpet removal and installation in one day as the carpet company had promised. I had waited my turn and deserved proper attention to the task. I even gave the installer 24 hours to make it right, but that didn't happen. We were livid. We just bought a new townhouse and our builder gave us options to either upgrade flooring through their design center or to rip and remove the "included" flooring. With that said, our builder wanted $30K for carpet and tile, about 1750 sqft. I wrote down the brand and style of the stuff we picked out and took it to Julio at Tompkins, we got it done for $16K for the same exact stuff. Our builder pushed closing by 30 days; I had Tompkins flooring ready to go and had to tell them to delay the project because of this. Julio was completely cool with it and super flexible. My lease at my apt was ending on the 23rd of January and my closing was on the 20th. Julio was able to get literally 6-7 guys in to rip out all the flooring and start work on the new flooring. These guys are bad ass and work hella quick. The quality of work was amazing and they finished the entire home in about 6 days. Julio supervised the job everyday, make sure the quality was top notch (which it was). Really thankful for these guys, totally a Tompkins customer for life. read more

I've been meaning to write this review for awhile now, because my wife and I had a very different experience from everyone else. Kathy helped us choose some laminate flooring, and she was terrific. I would have no problem referring people to her had the actual installation been done correctly and in a professional manner. For starters, when Tim says he'll arrive at the home between 9-10am, and I take time off from work to be home, I expect him to arrive close to that window (not necessarily in the window, because contractors are known for being late). When I call around 10:30am and he tells me he's just finishing a job and will be to my place in another 30 minutes or so, I'm trusting so I believe him. When he doesn't show up until closer to 2pm, well that's when my blood starts to boil. I also lose respect for any contractor who defers to my judgment on how to do their job, particularly when I'm not a professional floor installer. So, Tim, when you tell me the two methods for leveling out the sub-floor before installing the laminate, and ask me which I would prefer you to do... well, I would prefer you to have done the one that actually works... so that we don't have so many loose boards and soft spots that we have to call you out again to pick up the boards, try to level out the floor again, etc. FYI, you still didn't fix the problem, we just got tired of dealing with you. I hope this review seems harsh... really. Because no matter how good Tompkins' pricing was, and how fabulous Kathy was, I would never go back to them because the installation process was so poor. We had found a carpet sample at one of the big box stores nearby and when we finally got a quote (after MANY long delays) it was way more than expected and would have taken a lot longer than advertised to get it installed. I have a 1,000 sq.ft. condo in need of flooring to go over existing tile and chose to go with vinyl planks since it would be in the entire condo including kitchen, laundry area, and bathroom. I visited several retail businesses and chose Tompkins due to: 1) good reviews, 2) close to my residence, 3) fair price, and 4) most important the installers are their employees, not subcontractors. (After 3 slab leaks I have had plenty of bad experiences with subcontractors who seem to have been based in parking lots and picked up for day work.) The product you can buy from Tompkins can be purchased almost anywhere (I bought CoreTec vinyl planks) so it comes down to a fair price, installation and customer service. The installers showed up on time, there were 5 of them, and they got the job done in 1 day including demo of old baseboards and installing new ones. No mess, no fuss, just got the job done. That is huge. They moved furniture back and forth and remarkably remembered where everything went and they cleaned up when they were done. I am very impressed and will recommend Tompkins and my rep Julio to anyone that is looking for a reliable flooring company. read more

After looking for floor tile at the big box stores, Tompkins in Laguna Niguel had exactly what I wanted. Also looked for luxury vinyl flooring, then changed to carpeting for 3 bedrooms. Cheri was very helpful and patient and pointed out the superior pet proof carpeting now available! I made many trips and checked out many samples over several weeks. Cheri ordered larger samples for me. Once the decision was made, Cheri came and measured, checked availability and wrote up the very reasonable estimate. The tile installers did a beautiful job. The carpet installers did 3 bedrooms in a little over 3 hours! Cheri just dropped off some bottles of the manufacturer's carpet cleaner. Awesome service by a local company! We purchased hardwood flooring from Tompkins approx 10 years ago. We covered over 2000 sq ft. I need to add 10ft' of flooring due to adding construction in the living room. The person answering the phone (sales?) laughed when I told him the amount I needed and asked if I had checked elsewhere. He said "I'd have to charge you $100.00 if you were only going to order 1 box"... I mentioned that I had used this store to install the 2000' flooring (spending quite a bit $) and would be more than happy to find a retailer who would be more helpful and not laugh at the customer. read more
