I am passionate about supporting local businesses. I really wanted to love these guys. In fact, I'm a 21 year San Clemente resident and used them years ago for flooring and had a great experience. But these days their customer service is not good. I recently hired them for flooring and kitchen counter and tile work. Got great showroom help and I like my new look, but I had a few problems while the work was being done and I had to really chase down the owners to get help. They don't return calls. And they never followed up with a quality inspection/review at the end to make sure the work was done well. It's only been a few months and unfortunately I noticed a chip in my new quartz countertop. I called to ask about any warranties and/or advice on how to handle. With no return calls, I kept following up. Finally lucked out and got one of the owners on my fourth attempt and the response I got was pretty much - bummer. No warranty and Instead of sympathizing and trying to advise me on potential solutions, I was told he would have to speak with "his guys" and he'd call me back. That was 5 days ago. Don't expect much from these guys and sadly I won't be using them again nor will I continue to refer people. read more

We recently needed new carpet and after a bad experience a few years ago I was reluctant to go through it again!! I selected Designer's Magic on a friends recommendation and was extremely happy with the service I received from everyone I worked with. Jake was great to work with and helped me pick the perfect carpet for us. On instillation day Omar and Jose were the best. They were calm and polite, moving furniture carefully and measuring so that each piece went back in the right place. The finished product was lovely and it was a relaxing day for us! I am appalled at the way they run this company and the quality of work produced by their employees. They appear friendly and knowledgeable when you start your project. However, they employ very unskilled workers who do very poor work! I had vinyl flooring put in on my staircase and upstairs in 2 bedrooms. I have gaps in the floor under door jams and baseboards that hinder a desk drawer from opening. My stair skirt is unfinished and has cracked in one spot. I had carpeting put into my master bedroom and the installers cracked a baseboard. I also have gaps between the carpet and baseboards. Worst company I have ever dealt with!! read more

We were going to use Lowes to change our new home's floors to wood. Luckily, we stopped into Designer's Magic for a second perspective. Not only did they have a better selection and pricing, but Kevin gave us a feeling of confidence in their family business. They have their own installers, so the whole process is seamless. My wife and I needed to replace the original flooring in our house last December, 2021. We obtained a few estimates but their service was lacking. Some friends referred us to Magic Flooring in San Clemente next to Trader Joe's. We talked to the store rep and set up a time so they could measure and provide an estimate. They came on time and were very helpful. We thought the estimate was high but worked out the issues with Kevin. We ordered the flooring. Since it was near Christmas, they were able to set up a time for the removal of the old floor and installation of the new wood flooring well before the 25th. The workers showed up on time, moved the furniture, covered the fireplace etc, removed the flooring, leveled the floor, and installed the new flooring, all within a few days. Turns out our refrigerator had a leak in the water line and was a total loss. The workers moved the reefer for us out to the garage plus a sofa we were donating. They were extremely nice and helpful! After the job was completed and the furniture back in the house, there was an issue with the floor and we called Kevin. He came out promptly and checked the problem and wound up tearing out half of the new floor in the living room and corrected the problem to our complete satisfaction and at no additional cost, and all before Christmas. I have to say Kevin and his staff went the extra mile and we can't be more pleased with their service and product. I'm giving them 5 stars - but wish I could give them 10+ stars! read more

Easily the worst contractor we have worked with. Fast, sloppy, and careless. When they finished installing our wood flooring, we had glue on the walls, tool marks on the boards, and a sticky residue on much of the floor that was very difficult to remove. In addition, there were about a dozen creaky, low spots. They said it was due to an uneven sub floor, but we agreed to pay them extra to float out the low spots! They did come back to "fix" some areas, but their fix left more tool marks, excess glue on the floor, and, worst of all, did not resolve the creaking. The tile work they did looked great, but within a few months nearly every tile creaked and the grout eventually cracked and fell out. Now, we're left with a kitchen floor of loose tiles with sunken corners. I would have been better off doing the work myself and saving thousands of dollars. read more

The showroom attention was good. Then RJ was almost an hour late meeting me at my Mom's condo and be the time he called, I was already there. The flooring itself is well done..HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE TOILET WHEN THEY FINISHED. Completely unacceptable and unprofessional. I highly recommend Designer's Magic for flooring and bathroom remodel and other handyman services. I worked with Steven from Designer Magic on selecting the floors, the estimate for the entire flooring of our house and small remodel of the downstairs bathroom. He provided excellent professionalism by giving an accurate estimate on price and time frame. He met all our expectations by following up promptly on any delays and product delivery. The contractor Jose Colores was one of the best foreman that I worked with as his employees did our demolition of our tiles, hardwood floors, and carpet in 1.5 days of 1,400 sqft and completed the luxury vinyl installation in 5 days. I got other estimates from 5 other contractors and they all gave us an estimate of 8-15 days which wasn't ideal for us since we did not leave our home during the entire time of the flooring installation. Trust me when I tell you that this is the company that you need to hire for floors, bathrooms, kitchen, etc as I spent 2 weeks researching companies and getting estimates on price and time frame for the work. Decent pricing, but wanted to support local San Clemente Independent business. Gave them a try for a small job. Pros: 1) friendly father/sons set up. 2) convenient location in Trader Joe's parking lot 3) decent turn around time from deposit to instal 4) standard selection Cons: 1) installer 90 minutes late 2) installer doesn't speak English. Impossible to discuss the specifics of the work and any changes 3) real quick to call you to pay balance after job complete, but slow to return calls when some areas needed adjustments. Took him 4 days for return call. 4) some specific details that I asked for weren't completed correctly and owner tries to talk his way out of not completing the work. Makes homeowners feel like a douche bag because they want completion of work as requested and paid for. 5). The non English speaking installers are lazy and do the bare minimum. No pride, no concern, just slap it in and move on. Blatant lying about work completed and the existing condition of property. LOOK OVER WORK COMPLETELY BEFORE LETTING INSTALLERS LEAVE HOME AND BEFORE PAYING OFFICE. ONCE SETTLEd UP, hard to get a return call. I will never go back to that store. First of all, they are very overpriced. I got estimates from other stores to compare prices. Designer's Magic prices were higher than the other stores and a local contractor. Second (and the reason I am writing my first review ever!), I have never been so insulted in all my life for shopping. The man who says he was the owner was so rude and sarcastic. I had questions about the floors I was looking for but he had no patience to answer any of the questions...He made me feel stupid. Then, I mentioned that I had been shopping for floors and noticed his prices were higher and asked the reason. Well, he basically told me to leave his business. I could say more but I want to keep it short. Anyways, as I mentioned before, I have never been so insulted in all my life. They need to put a note on their door for customers. VERY disappointed in the service. I had Tim come out to my home, as I've been having a problem with my wood floor buckling. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. He knew what he was doing. However, when it came down to the sales department and getting a quote from the office about a tear out of the old floor and purchasing a new one, no one ever followed up... I called every day for a week and was told the same thing... The owner needs to review the details and get back to me. I even stopped into the store, gave them my name and number and asked to have someone call me... Nothing... If they can't even take the time to call me back, what kind of service would I expect... My fiancé and I needed to install carpet prior to us moving into our condo. Originally we had gone with Lowe's but had to cancel after they couldn't come through with their 72 hour installation. So I desperately went over to Designer's magic and RJ was amazing!!! On Saturday he agreed to help us with carpet installation for the following Monday. He was able to work with our budget and we were able to choose an affordable carpet that was a piece of ... Not to mention he had really wonderful customer service. i ordered from these folks because I needed carpet on a certain day for a house sale. They committed to that day and then that day they called to say they were over-booked and under-staffed. Surprise! it wasn't done on time. Then they royally screwed up the invoicing and accounting by trying to double collect on their invoice. Do Not Go Here!!! The owner, Richard appears to be friendly in the beggining, but all he wants is your money. We liked carpet there and he quoted us $42/yard. We went to the shop around the corner, South Coast Flooring and they quoted us $34/yard. Richard wanted our business so he then quoted $32/yard. When we changed our mind about which carpet we wanted he went back to the original outragous price. He is rude, unfriendly and greedy. We wanted to continue wood flooring in our house but we were having a hard time finding a wood to match. The wood we had in our house was discontinued. Designer's Magic not only carried a wood that matched they made the two woods flow as if they went in together. I found Designer Magic to be very reasonably priced, fast and extremely efficient. In a word, disorganized. The main problem I had was their complete failure to return messages. I could not even track them down for a quote, though they had come out to measure. I had to track down my own samples too. No one ever called to say they were in. On one occasion after I had waited two weeks for samples, I decided I'd have better luck if I popped in. Here was my first glimpse into the way things are run in the office. Many samples were still in envelopes unopened clearly for days at at time, others were stuffed in this cabinet or that drawer. He looked for samples in the front and samples in the back, but nothing and I mean nothing was side -marked. I have no idea how any one gets their samples. Durning my measure I mentioned that we were up to a year out on cpt (cash flow). I could tell right away that I was going to be treated differently. Though i made a selection and called it in, the quote did not come. I thought they were just running late on quotes so decided "No rush," I was after all just getting ahead of the game making an early selection and getting a budgeting figure. But things change and we decided to get our cpt. and moulding sooner than later. So I'd leave messages. When they did not get returned I decided to just let the Hollidays pass and try again when things calmed down. In total I left three phone and three walk-in messages over the course of a couple months. When I'd mention that I had tried several times to get a quote and that I'd left several messages, the floor sales person made disparaging remarks about the management and how "sick he was" of all the delinquency and the way things were run. Not a good sign. In all fairness, my last call was returned about 2 months later. Sad to say I went through one more really flaky flooring business before deciding to stick with a business that gets mostly 4 and 5 stare Yelp reviews. I went with MAC Flooring and so far my experience with customer service there is the difference between a Motel 6 and the St. Regis. read more
