Avoid this unethical business, particularly the owner Justin. Spent over $24,000 for a kitchen remodel, which took months for them to complete because of multiple delays in getting materials and workers on site. Worse still, their plumber didn't follow code by overstretching water hoses under the sinks, causing a valve to leak in an under-counter hot water heater. The leak wasn't noticed until a year later when water had flooded the inside cabinet and started leaking onto the hardwood kitchen floor, ruining both the cabinet and part of the floor. Justin, the owner, refused to repair the damage or even return any of my repeated calls. Complaint to Better Business Bureau was denied since 1 year warranty had expired. Ethical contractors don't operate this way, and will stand behind their work. read more

The quote process was very easy and there we no surprises by the time we had received the final invoice. Designer Wholelsale (Capital Construction) also offered us some flexibility up front by letting us put down a deposit for our granite slab and then starting the project a couple months later. Designer Wholesale had everything we needed for our project (granite counter tops, sinks, etc.) and offered a great selection. Communications with the Project Manager, Owner, etc. was exceptional. We'd even asked for our project to include a few extras which included installing new attic stairs, new faucets, replacing a ceiling fan in a vaulted ceiling, and repairing some loosely-fitting light fixtures. Justin, Wes, Phil, and the others went above and beyond by pointing out a couple of underlying electrical issues (bad boxes and supports) and a leaky garbage disposal which needed to be addressed. Not only were these extras pointed out, but the team fixed them at a very reasonable cost. This company truly is a, "one stop shop" for a homeowner's project/contractor needs. My wife and I will definitely use them again when it's time to do other major home renovations in the future. Great job! read more

Very Strange Experience. Not Recommended This really was a strange experience all around. While the work was fine, everything else ranged from just plain odd to simply unacceptable. The work is done by, I am pretty sure, illegal immigrants. This is pretty much standard in the Memphis construction field. The two who did our work were good and courteous, even though they arrived 1 1/2 hours late. But, after the rest of my experience with Capital, I am guessing it was a problem with those who set up the order, as opposed to the workers themselves. When I set up the order, it was done over the phone. I was given a specific price. However, when the order was in the process of being done, it was increased by $100. This was followed by the thoroughly odd appearance the next morning by a staffer who wanted immediate payment. When I have worked with a contractor before, I was mailed an invoice. I paid in this case, but certainly made my concerns well known. No adjustments were made to the price, of course, and I also received no documentation regarding the item installed. read more

I guess you live and learn. Today's lesson: never trust a contractor to do a job correctly. Especially if some of the work is hidden under the foundation of your home. Designer Wholesale by Capital Construction gutted and remodeled my master bathroom at the end of 2017. There were many issues with the plumbing that I never complained about bc they fixed them. However, I began noticing in the summer of 2018 that my ac unit wasn't cooling as well as it normally had before the remodel. I chalked it up to the hot summers here in Memphis. It was still cooling, but never as well. My dad is an HVAC tech and had installed our unit in the spring of 2017. He checked everything above the house each year and it was all running immaculately. Well fast forward to 2021 and my ac unit is running non stop and can't cool the house with all the above foundation stuff still checking out perfectly. My dad is in his 60s now and doesn't like climbing under houses. I can't say I blame him. So my brother-in-law and I climbed under my conventional foundation to find that the plumber for capital construction had cut out a 3 foot section of return duct to make room for a toilet drain pipe and then left it that way. So my ac unit was working really hard pulling all the air from UNDER my house! If you plan to remodel then stay away from Capital. Their work is garbage. read more

Steve came and talked me through repairs that were requested from a buyer's home inspection. He was honest and explained each item in terms I could understand. Many of the repairs were items that another company had done inadequately and he encouraged me to hold the original repairmen accountable for their work. He could have easily taken advantage of my situation - but he cared more about making sure my situation was resolved fairly and cost effectively. Having built our home 12 years ago we were used to subcontractors not showing up when they were supposed to and doing an inferior job once they got here. To say it was refreshing to find a contractor that did exactly what he promised and on time everyday was a welcomed difference. Not only were they always on time, but extremely courteous the entire time they were on the job. This may all sound phoney, but give them a try and sit back to be very surprised, as we were. well, I called for estimate schadualwd for estimate after 3 days that was fine. during estimate Iexplained that i need it to be done since i am expecting people in my house. During the estimate i heard lots of yes mam s! After 4 days i rwcieved a call that they can not give me estimate for repair and they only work with insurance comanies that was fine if they had told me from begining so i dint wait for one week obviously they want to work with insurance. impany to be able to charge more and they have no respect for customer time one week passed and i dont even have estimate. if he told me from the begining i would ask another contractor to do the job for me and not keep me waiting for them. We are days away from being evicted from out motel because Capital is more than 6 weeks behind schedule. They started restoration of our house 1st week of August and told us the upstairs would be move in ready by Sept 15. The entire house would be finished (minus touch-ups) by Oct 15. Our insurance company GRACIUOUSLY extended our motel stay another 2 weeks. We were told that it will take over 3 weeks to finish our house. So we will be homeless for 7 days even if Capital finishes in 3 more weeks. All they had to do was replace sheetrock, repaint, reinstall cabinets, and install new hardwood. The sheetrock replacement was only 24" from the floor down to the slab. It's taken them over 2 months to do just the sheetrock, trim, and paint and it is still only 2/3rds complete. At this rate we will be lucky to return to our home in 2 more months. That will mean we will have been HOMELESS for 9 months. The builder who built this house built and sold it in less than 3 months. They purchased the lot on Dec 2006 and sold the 4000 SF luxury home by the end of Feb 2007. Capital can't even get the sheetrock, paint, cabinets, and hardwood installed in 3 months. We purchased the hardwood on July 4th from Lumber Liquidators. They have a 3 month return policy. Capital has taken so long to finish this project that we no longer can return any of the hardwood that is unused or defective. To make matters worse we tried to convince them to start early in July but they insisted on waiting for the insurance money. We told them we had money and could pay them up front to start restoration of our house. They assured us that they would finish on time even if it took another month to get the money deposited from the insurance company. read more

A nightmare from day one. Had them out to do a corrugated metal roof on an enclosed porch in our back yard. First, I believe one member of the crew spoke English. Second, there was evidence of shoddy work from the get go. Nails poking through the sides of boards that would have been left had I not pointed them out. Also, they almost just covered up a board that was completely rotted from moisture, and only fixed the issue when I pointed it out. After the job was done, they had to return to replace some wood on the structure that had damage from nails sticking out. 6 months later, the brand new roof leaked again. The crew that came out said a temporary flashing was used around the chimney instead of a permanent one. It would need to be replaced. I recorded my conversation with this gentleman when he informed me the crew who had done my work were no longer employed by Capital. It is now a few years old and because of the poor workmanship (Rotten wood, nails sticking everywhere, incomplete and incorrect construction), we are probably going to have to replace the entire roof again. I am in the process of dealing with these guys, and they have been unconcerned and dismissive of my complaints to this point. Considering hiring legal representation in this matter. Please save yourselves the headache and money and hire another company. You have been warned!!! read more
