Harveys Furniture - New sofa time!

Harveys Furniture

Stockport

Harveys Furniture is my favourite furniture store in the Peel Centre, it had much better service…read moreand selection than DFS nearby, it is a rather large store although slightly smaller than nearby DFS, with Bensons for Beds occupying the upper level of this store with a lift between the two making it fully accessible. I came here with a new sofa in mind, I had a very specific idea of what I wanted in a new sofa which was: - A two-seater yet not too large as it had to fit in my small living room - Comfortable yet I didn't care for more premium features such as reclining - Armrests which were spacious yet not too high (to act as a mini table if you will to rest my laptop) I'm pleased to say I was able to find a sofa to match my specifications, unlike at DFS nearby and the staff member seemed really helpful, one thing I liked was she didn't care about her commission, she cared about getting me the right sofa and delivering good service: she had no problem taking me to the clearance range first and helped explained about the product and how it was firm due to only coming in a few days ago where it was returned by a customer who changed her mind. I did have to wait a little while for her to confirm everything and communicate with the delivery driver as I did live over 15 miles away, I only came to this store as it is the easiest for me to get to via public transport, with it only being around 3/4 of a mile from Stockport Railway Station which is around 7-18 minutes on the train from Manchester, with the quicker services being with Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry. I was told that as it was a clearance item I couldn't pay on finance but that was fine as I had no intention of doing that anyway, the only slightly frustrating thing for me was the high delivery charge compared to other sofa places, but I was willing to pay it as £69 is only a little bit more than the £30-£40 average charge and considering I do live a little further out, and this was a bespoke product (there was only one) I liked which already had a good reduction in price at £479 and they could even deliver it the same day within a couple of hours, I was pleased with that. Harvey's also had genuinely lovely people as the staff, as my original server had too many customers at once, someone else who was free took over and they actually tried to persuade each other to take the commission on my order, I've never seen staff fight over why the other worker should get the bonus before, it wasn't an aggressive fight, it was just a friendly chat between friends more than anything, and if Harvey's are listening they both deserved it for excellent service! I would have liked to see a better selection of other items such as tables, however, and more of a variety of colours on their clearance range would have also been more exciting, but still, a rather good furniture shop where I finally found my sofa! 4*

Despite what my husband may think I'm not a big fan of shopping and spending time in mammoth…read moreshopping centres and hot, stuffy department stores where the exit is nowhere to be seen (think the Father Ted lingerie department episode) puts the fear of God into me. However, needs must and sometimes shopping can't be avoided so if this is the case I want somewhere that will make it as easy as possible. I like this branch of John Lewis as it's easily accessible by road (just off the M60 and Handforth bypass) with plenty of parking, making it super easy to pull up and head straight in. It's pretty big, spread over 3 floors, but still doesn't feel like it swallows you up and everything is very easy to find. It's also very neat and tidy which is pretty important to me as I hate it when a shop is in total disarray (think the hellhole that is Primark) as it just makes the whole shopping experience more stressful than it should be. I've always found the staff to be approachable and friendly and will happily dispense advice on the best toaster or coffee machine for your buck, if you so desire. John Lewis is definitely one of the more premium department stores (not quite Harvey Nics but definitely not Debenhams) so the products and prices obviously mirror this but if you are after gifts or items that are of a higher quality then it's a brilliant option. Another major plus point for JL is that if you sign up for their loyalty card online they send you vouchers for free coffee and cake every month - this sweetens the shopping experience no end!

Love the convenience of the café. John Lewis has always provided the best and delivery services and…read moreinstallation for all the appliances. This particular visit was for curtains. One star off because while there are many sizes and styles listed online, the stores usually only carry one or two of each variety leading you to have to purchase them online and have arranged for either pick up in store, or home delivery. So it is best to use the store to inspect the individual items first before purchasing, but you might end up going online to order them anyway. Prices were excellent as always and delivery was free and of course John Lewis has a wonderfully large parking lot. That is also free of charge. For online pick up or Customer Service head around to the parking behind the store and enter from the rear entrance.

When I popped in the other day they had a sale going on, and many cards were knocked down to just £1. This kind of offer would definitely appeal to people like my Mum, who has a whole chest of drawers full of various cut-price greetings cards for every occasion - just in case someone moves house or gets engaged or turns 16 (we don't know any 15-year-olds). Apart from cards they had offers on lush smelling bath bombs and toiletries, mirrors, mugs and rugs. In the back room they also have a range of really nice furniture - I'll be back in about 30 years, when I have enough money to buy and furnish a house in Didsbury. Great for gifts and cards, and I'd recommend popping down soon to catch the end of the sale if you have the drawer space to store year's Christmas pressies!

If you're not drawn in by the eclectic window displays, then you'll most certainly be drawn in by the aroma of scented soaps and candles. Apart from a huge selection of cards, Elm Interiors specialise in jewellery, mirrors, pictures, clocks, photo frames, rugs, kitchenware, lighting and baskets. I came in here specifically for Christmas decorations and cards. The shop was bustling full of like-minded shoppers. I got a great box set of hand made cards for £5 and a wooden reindeer or two for the tree.
