The only things I've ever bought from this shop are greetings cards, of which they have a really good, but admittedly somewhat pricey, selection. When I popped in the other day they had a sale going on, and many cards were knocked down to just £1. This kind of offer would definitely appeal to people like my Mum, who has a whole chest of drawers full of various cut-price greetings cards for every occasion - just in case someone moves house or gets engaged or turns 16 (we don't know any 15-year-olds). Apart from cards they had offers on lush smelling bath bombs and toiletries, mirrors, mugs and rugs. In the back room they also have a range of really nice furniture - I'll be back in about 30 years, when I have enough money to buy and furnish a house in Didsbury. Great for gifts and cards, and I'd recommend popping down soon to catch the end of the sale if you have the drawer space to store year's Christmas pressies! read more

The name Elm Interiors conjures up images of soft furnishings and small occasional tables, but the main reason most people shop in here is for the gifts and cards. If you're not drawn in by the eclectic window displays, then you'll most certainly be drawn in by the aroma of scented soaps and candles. Apart from a huge selection of cards, Elm Interiors specialise in jewellery, mirrors, pictures, clocks, photo frames, rugs, kitchenware, lighting and baskets. I came in here specifically for Christmas decorations and cards. The shop was bustling full of like-minded shoppers. I got a great box set of hand made cards for £5 and a wooden reindeer or two for the tree. read more

This shop used to be the House Shop, but it closed for a refit and later re-opened as more or less the same store under a different name! It is, as its name suggests, a place you can pick up snazzy furniture and homeware, all very cool and design-led. Think Typhoon kitchenware and La Creuset pans, as well as beds, coffee tables and all that jazz. However, Elm is something of a gift shop too. So you'll find everything from luxury bath products, jewellery and confectionary to photoframes and quirky, well-priced greetings cards. At Christmas, they also sell tonnes of beautiful, if a little expensive, decorations. read more

Have to agree with the last review. Just returned from the bramhall shop (same owners/name) and it has the most unwelcoming staff I have ever encountered. This was only my second visit and my last. The shop assistant was very rude about my son and told me I need to control my child so definetly don't bother shopping there if you have children, definetly not child friendly even though they had some child's toys for sale , very strange. Staff need training in customer service. Won't be stepping foot in there ever again. read more

I have purchased a couple of bedroom furniture items, i.e., the Portland range, which are more expensive if bought via the Cotswold company and recently asked one of the assistants for her opinion on the purchase of a framed picture/painting to go in my newly decorated lounge. As a result of her patient opinion. I purchased the picture and it really compliments my lounge. As there are so many similar stores within a few miles radius of this Bramhall store, Customer Service is paramount and I feel in any store it's about getting the balance of having staff who are not 'in your face and too overbearing' but having staff who show efficient willingness when you ask them a question or for help. In my opinion, in any shop if the assistant can't be bothered, then neither can I be bothered to put my hand in my purse, though if genuine willingness to help is shown, I will seriously consider a purchase. read more

I have just returned from the shop and must say that, again, I have left with a bad taste in my mouth. The items in the shop are lovely, really lovely but the service, time and time again, is abysmal. The only time you see something close to a smile is when you are about to pay. I've never once entered and been greeted. On today's occasion there were 2 people in the store frantically trying to organise their Christmas decorations, so the store was in a bit of a state. Not a prblem with me, completely understand that leading up to the busiest time of year. What did bother me was that one of the ladies was standing at the front door and didn't even acknowlegde me entering the store! I don't think it costs anything to say 'hello, let me know if you need a hand' and carry on with your work. When I later asked her if she had a small box for a lantern I was planning to buy, I realy felt as though I was bothersome and interrupting her unpacking. I left having spent over 20 pounds but didn't leave the shop satisfied. It's a shame there isnt something closer because the service I get at te Co-op is significantly better than I get there. read more

Worst customer service I have ever experienced when I attempted to return a lamp to Elm Interiors (with receipt, purchased 2 days ago) today. From the moment I spoke to the manager/owner the aggressive tone and attitude was bizarre and astonishing. Honestly never been spoken to by a shop owner like that in my life. Such a shame as I like to shop local but will be buying my lamps from John Lewis from now on. Couldn't believe his approach to customers. Have seen him being a bit unfriendly and unhelpful before. Should have picked up on the warning signs and stopped spending my hard earned money there much earlier. read more
