Caution Caution. The owner Liu treats her customer terribly and unethically. I took a dress (simple dress costs me $60 to purchase) to Design Alternation Inc. I tried it on, and asked for the dress to be shortened and hemmed, before I had the chance to tell her what length I wanted, the owner went ahead and cut my dress right then and there! It's just so random and the cut was not even. Then, I still thought maybe that's normal, so I took the dress off and asked how much it will cost to do the hem job. She gave a quote of $45. This dress doesn't even have a lining, so I found it ridiculous to ask for that much when most of the dress hemming costs around $15-$30 at most! And then she asked me when is my prom date. I am a 28 years old woman, so I don't know where she got the idea that this is my prom dress. Just because my dress looks formal doesn't mean that's for prom. But then I immediately realized that's why she over charged the hem job because she's ripping people off for prom. I decided not to let her hem my dress, but the owner said she has already started the work, which is the messy cutting that took her 30 seconds to do. She said if I wanted the dress back, I had to pay $20 for that work. I said that's ridiculous, and she decided to high jack my dress and took it inside to her work office and not come out! I still tried to reason with her, but she wouldn't listen and started to yell how "she's a special worker that deserves a special price. You would have gotten a super worker, but now it will be just just a normal worker." Nothing she said made any sense and it's just outright crazy. I had to go outside and called the police to try getting my dress back, and even when the police came she still refused to give my dress back. The police officer tried to reason with her as well, and even asked if we pay less than $20 can we get the dress back, and she just kept saying she's special, and we have to pay no less than $20 to get the dress back. That just sounded so egotistical and narcissist! The officer did all he could but since it's a civil manner according to him, there's no more he could do. Well, I guess I just have to suck it up and buy another dress. Since I asked her to not work on my dress and she refused to give my dress back, my dress is technically stolen by her. I still can't believe this just happened to me! Well, at least she's not going to get a dime from us now! I went to this place after listening to my husband because it is closer to where I live. If the owner had just given me my dress back, at least she would still have our business as my husband often takes his suits to her, but now we will definitely not come back. read more
