I purchased (4) 96" velvet lined curtain panels from Pottery Barn knowing that I would need to have them hemmed. After hanging them on the curtain rod and measuring, I needed 4" taken off the bottom so that the curtains would kiss the floor. I brought them to Sunshine Alterations and was quoted $160 to hem all (4) panels with a turn around time of 2 weeks. A month passed by since I had heard from her so I decided to stop by the store to see if they were ready. They weren't only not ready but they hadn't even started to work on them. The owner claimed they were busy and promised to start work on them shortly. Two weeks later I had my curtains. The hem job was done nicely but once they were hung, I realized that they were 1" too short. One curtain panel was even 1.5" too short. I returned to the store with a photo of the curtain length to try and resolve the issue. The owner stated that they did take off 4" inches and that I should have specified that I wanted the curtains to be 92" in length, not to just take 4" off because they didn't know how long the curtains were to begin with. I stated that I did hang the curtains up and measure them and confirmed they were indeed 96" long and taking 4" off would make them 92". The owner apologized but would not take responsibility. She said that it would not be fair to have her girls redo the curtains for free and that if I wanted them fixed, I needed to pay $160 again. I told her it wasn't fair to me that they did not hem them correctly. She then tried to tell me that the curtains didn't look that bad and having them touch the ground wasn't good anyways because they would collect more dust. I explained that was a moot point and that this was very poor customer service. She then stated that she could possibly try to fix them herself but that she hadn't sewed in a long time and she had no idea when she could get to them. I told her I had already waited 6 weeks for the curtains and didn't want to wait an unknown amount of time for her to try and fix them. We ended the call with no resolution and her simply saying that she was sorry. As an interior designer, costly mistakes like this where the owner takes no responsibility and has no desire to right the wrong is not a company I would ever recommend to my customers. Please save yourself the money and heartache and take your alterations to a company that stands by their work and values good customer service. read more

After two months of my pants not being repaired, I stopped by to check on the status and gave him another months! My experience at Sunshine Alteration blows me away. It was truly a pleasure working with Nazzi. Every time I came, she was extremely kind, even if the store was packed. She listens, is patient, and communications well. I came to have my wedding dress hemmed and add a bustle. The dress is long, has five layers, and has a detailed trim at the bottom. Other alteration shops in Tallahassee saw the dress as daunting, and the price they offered was excessive - or out of my budget at least. Nazzi and her team did an excellent job at a great price and the dress is absolutely perfect. I could not be happier. As a retired home economics teacher, I am a competent seamstress who has been sewing my own clothes since I was a teenager. Over the years I have enjoyed sewing various garments or items for our household, and well as doing repairs. I do not always care to sew these days, however, I do need someone to help provide the perfect fit to a garment I have recently purchased. Being quite tall, I often desire to have garments tweaked a bit--either in length or taken in if I have to buy a larger size to get the right length. Years ago I went to various places for my alterations, but once I found Sunshine Alterations, it has been my "go-to" place for sewing needs and have been going there for many many years. Nazzi, the owner is professional and personable. Her work and sewing skills are excellent, as well as her recommendations for fit. In fact there are times she as suggested that a garment doesn't need to be altered and I so appreciate her appraising eye and honesty. Great place to get clothes altered! It's a little shop on Monroe Street tucked in right next to the army surplus store. The owner is very sweet and she works with the customer to get things done on time. They have very flexible service, you can walk in without an appointment and get a fitting done in no time. I am 5' tall and this where I bring ALL of my clothes for tailoring. They make fast work and are always very nice. I haven't had any issues, but any time I pick up my clothes, they always let me know to bring them back if there is a problem which I respect. I have been burned by tailors in the past who made my jeans too short and just did shotty work so I have been very happy with Sunshine Alteration. They take both card and cash, but cash is usually easier. The only thing I don't like is the parking lot which is awkward and weird to get out of when it is busy, but that's more of just a heads up thing for anyone and not obviously a make or break for me. read more

So this review isn't based on an alteration I had done. It's actually because I went in today to get a second opinion on my dress for graduation and had doubts about length and fit. (And because my boyfriend has zero critiques on the dress, but he doesn't find problems with many things. Ha.) I went in, expressed my concerns, and was told to put on the dress. I made the mistake of not getting the wonderful lady's name, but I believe it might be Nazzi. She told me she wouldn't change a thing. She described the type of dress and why it suited me. She pointed out why it was actually a good fit by showing me the points that it met my shoulders and etc. I can't even begin to express my gratitude and respect for a business that looks out for their customers even without a sale. The seamstress is pushy and rude. DON'T GO HERE! I am SO disappointed with this place and their customer service. I had a formal dress that needed altering and had perfect shoes to match the color and style of the dress. Because of their texture the shoes snagged the dress from the inside. I asked for the dress to be hemmed so that the shoes would show through but the woman INSISTED that the dress should go all the way to the floor and that I could likely get a shoe repair to fix the texture of the shoe. I went to a shoe repair and they said there is nothing they can do to change the texture of the shoe, so I went back to the seamstress and she kept insisting ITS NOT MY FAULT, ITS NOT MY FAULT. The odd thing was, I didn't care whose fault it was I just wanted my dress fixed! I already paid $50 for the dress to be hemmed for a $100 dress. She said I should buy new shoes - I already paid $80 for shoes! We had agreed that she would re-do the hem for $25 - an honest seamstress would have offered to fix it for free but I can understand it is someone's time, however SHE KEPT INSISTING IT WAS NOT HER FAULT. Well guess what, YES IT IS YOUR FAULT when you use your professional opinion to give me bad advice! Her arguing with me was totally inappropriate and uncalled for so I did not go back and will never go back there. read more
