It's towards the top of Old Montreal so we had a nice walk to and from the restaurant. We were greeted by the host and sat down immediately. The restaurant inside was very pretty and had low lighting to make it look very intimate. I'd definitely consider Veranda a fine-dining Indian restaurant. We ordered the samosa tarts and malai chicken tikka from the appetizers and both were absolutely delicious! We also ordered mango lassi, butter chicken, and garlic naan (all automatic orders for us when we go to Indian restaurants) and none of them disappointed. However, we were a little disappointed that they didn't have a few menu items that we see back home or at other Indian restaurants like onion bhaji, pakora, biryani and tandoori chicken. The only complaint we had was the service wasn't that great. Our order was taken a few minutes after viewing the menu and the staff was very friendly but after we finished our appetizers, we felt neglected as other tables were served their food and we were waiting 25-30 minutes to get served our main dish. We had to let the server know that we were done our appetizers and ready for the main dish. I'm not sure if this is normal in Montreal or at Indian restaurants in Montreal? Other restaurants we were served our courses immediately one after the other, with maybe 5-10 minutes in between. It wasn't busy either for a Wednesday night where they only had 3-4 tables. Regardless, we would recommend Veranda to anyone craving Indian food who wants to eat in Old Montreal! The food is delicious!

Ordered Dahl soup, chicken tikka masala, Chana masala, Tardka Dahl, 1 basmati rice (none comes with your meal, rather odd) and 1 garlic naan bread. C$79.33 I can't say we have ever been to an Indian restaurant where you have to order and pay for the rice at all. The complimentary cracker, papadum is quite salty on its own. I am not loving the onion salsa or the yogurt chia dip so much. Their complimentary items are not for me. 1 order of Naan is literally 1 piece of naan for the two of us. Best to assume everything is a la carte. The basmati rice is flavored and topped with crispy onions and peas. It's ok. I do feel for the 3 dishes we ordered, at least one rice should have come with it as an accompaniment. The garlic naan is good, chewy and warm. The lentil soup isn't so good, it's quite runny, as water and doesn't have much flavor to me. The Tardka Dahl is good. The Chana masala is good as well. The chicken tikka masala is the best part of the meal. Rich and super flavorful profile, sauce is fantastic with the bread or the rice. Huge chunks of chicken and not a lot in the dish. I could easily have eaten this on my own. Service was good.

Excellent meal and deserves 5 stars for the food, ambience and service!…read more Our server was amazing and explained the thali in detail! Highly recommend this place if you are vegan and are looking for health Indian meal choices! Everything on our plate was delish! The place slowly started getting crowded for lunch since thali is only offered during lunch! Turmeric milk was the best!!! Would visit again! Montreal's most magical dining experience!…read more If you're looking for a reason to book a trip to Montreal, let me give you one: Tula. My husband and I visited during a recent trip to the city, and without question, it was the best meal we had -- and honestly, one of the most memorable dining experiences of our lives. From the moment you walk through the door, the space wraps you in warmth. The atmosphere is inviting, the decor puts you instantly at ease, and the staff greet you with the kind of genuine kindness that's increasingly rare. But it's Abhi and Renata (apologies if I've misspelled either name!) who truly make this place something extraordinary. These two are the heart and soul of Tula, and their passion for what they do radiates through every single aspect of the experience. We spent a few wonderful hours there, and I mean that -- the time just melted away. Renata sang for the entire restaurant, and her voice was absolutely stunning, a spontaneous and beautiful gift to everyone in the room. Abhi, in the most generous gesture, sat down and hand-wrote a list of vegan restaurant recommendations from around the globe for us to take home. These are people who love what they do and love the people they do it for. And then there's the food. Oh, the food. We started with an Indian taco special that set the tone perfectly, then moved on to the Tofu Achari Masala curry with chapati and the Dal Sambar with steamed rice -- both absolutely spectacular. We finished with a special pistachio cake dessert that was the perfect, dreamy ending to the meal. Every single dish tasted like it was made with genuine love and intention, because it was. This is vegan Indian cuisine at its very finest. I left Tula feeling something I didn't quite expect: greater faith in humanity. That might sound dramatic, but if you go -- and you absolutely must go, as soon as possible -- I think you'll understand exactly what I mean. Don't wait. Just go.
