I booked a 5 day fishing trip with Deshka Landing Charters & Lodge during the week of June 10-17 based upon a friends recommendation. This is usually regarded as the "peak" of the king salmon run for the Deshka. Our party of 4 (dad, son and brother) all enjoyed the trip and were able to create many fond memories. The lodge owners, Jim and Maria, were excellent! They were well prepared and extended a warm welcome upon arrival. Maria is an amazing cook and we had fabulous meals every day of the week. She also kept us satisfied with fresh baked cookies, cakes, and other snacks throughout the week. Another thing I especially appreciated was how clean the cabins, restrooms and common areas were kept. It's obvious that Jim and Maria take great care of the property down to every detail. This is a very convenient and comfortable place to stay for anyone fishing the Deshka, whether it be for a week or a daily charter. Although the fish count numbers were not as good as prior years for the king run, we still caught several fish. We fished both mornings and evenings on most days which provided ample opportunity for netting some nice kings. The boats and fishing gear were also very well maintained and in working order. Our guide was good with rigging our poles with the right lures and positioning us in the right place on the river. Overall, this trip was excellent and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun family fishing vacation to Alaska. You can't go wrong with this lodge and outfitter. It's definitely a good value. My family and I feel like we've made life long friends and were lucky to have been able to share our experience with such great hosts. Book with confidence! read more

In general, I don't post reviews, but I feel obligated to say a few lines after we had a completely deluxe stay with Jim and Maria at Deshka Landing Lodge. The fires in the Kenai and Talkeetna areas disrupted our plans, and we luckily ended up at Deshka Landing. You wouldn't have known that we came in last minute however, as Jim and Maria made us feel truly like family during our 2 night stay -- like we had booked months in advance. We fished with Jim for a day and limited on Coho, caught and released a whole bunch of chum, and both fly fished and spin fished while having a great time. Jim was patient, jovial, and instructive with my kids (ages 7, 11,13) and they all caught salmon. The cabin, lodge, and grounds were clean, comfortable and inviting and just perfect for our family. The lodge specializes in "all inclusive" stays with food, cabins, and fishing included, but we were just renting their Dolly Varden cabin for a few nights and one day of fishing. Despite this, Jim brought us their extra chocolate cake, gave us some beers after fishing, and even started up the campfire and provided s'mores for the kids. These are genuine folks, great hosts, and just downright nice people. I'm sure there are more scenic, fancier, and grandiose operations in Alaska, but it would be hard to beat what Jim and Maria are doing at Deshka Landing Lodge. This is my new favorite place to stay in Alaska. Whether you are booking for fishing, hunting, or to just get a taste of Alaska, this place is the perfect place to stay. The new owners Jim and Maria have completely renovated all of the cabins and lodge, have upgraded everything and have made the place very nice. Very clean, very well kept, and very comfortable. Jim and Maria are super friendly and accommodating and will take really good care of you. This place is perfect for families or groups large or small; they have all sizes of cabins and space to meet individual or group needs. A huge bonus for me is that this lodge is right next to some of the finest salmon fishing spots in Alaska. And Jim knows right where to take you, he is one of the best guides I've ever fished with; he'll get you the opportunity to limit out on salmon every morning. They also send you home with your catch frozen and vacuum sealed. I was referred to this place by one of Alaska's top rated hunting and fishing guides that highly recommended the Deshka Landing Charters & Lodge to me as the best place to stay and to fish and he sure was right. We had a fantastic time going out with Brett on a half day charter. My father in law was up from Colorado visiting us in Anchorage. My wife and I treated him to a Father's Day present of King fishing on the Deshka. Every aspect of the charter was top notch from travel logistics from Anchorage, great fishing gear and a fantastic fishing experience. Brett put all of us on a King and my father-in-law checked off his bucket list goal of catching a King Salmon in Alaska. I would highly recommend Deshka Landing Charters and Lodge to both Alaskan's who want to check out the Deshka and visitors to our state. Fantastic Salmon Fishing Trip Despite Challenges Our group of eight, from novice to experienced anglers, had never fished for salmon before. The guides were patient and worked hard to ensure everyone caught fish and had a great time. Despite unusually low river levels and mid-week closures by Alaska's Department of Fish and Game, the guides went above and beyond to find new waters and keep us on the fish. The cabins were clean and comfortable, and the meals--served family-style by Maria and her team--were outstanding. Jim kept everything on the fishing side organized and running smoothly. Was able to take my son one his first trip to Alaska. We had a great time staying with Jim and Maria, the new owners of Deshka Landing Charters and Lodge. We had a great time fishing for Silvers. Jim is the best fishing guide I have had in Alaska over the years. Very knowledgeable and hospitable. Both my son and I caught plenty of fish, and were able to bring home our limits. Jim vacuum packed and froze our fillets on site. Maria is a great cook and very nice and accommodating. The cabins are recently remodeled, and was nice to have your own cabin. The main lodge was very close by and a place to hang out and eat! Would definitely recommend Deshka Landing Charters and Lodge! Take the whole family! read more

We had a wonderful trip with Deshka! Great guides, great lodging and fantastic food. Jim and Maria were wonderful hosts and Brian and Jim are very skilled guides. We caught salmon even when other groups were shut out. I caught my limit 2 out of 3 days we fished. Jim knows the rivers well and we benefited from his knowledge with lots of fun fishing and tasty salmon we took home with us! We also stayed with them a few extra days to explore the area and go to Denali. I highly recommend Deshka! If you go with Deshka you won't be disappointed. read more

The experience here is unlike any other. You will come as a guest and leave feeling like family. The fishing is almost as good as the food! Seriously though, Jim works his butt off to ensure you have a great time and that you get on the fish. Their cabins are awesome and really make the experience that much more enjoyable. I have been here twice now and will continue to come back. There are very few fishing guides that are as affordable as this as well. Great place, unforgettable experience. read more

This is the second year in a row I've fished with Jim and Maria, once you leave the lodge in the morning you are fishing in 15 minutes, we caught our limits of silvers every day, I think I wore out one of his fishing reels. They have great equipment, great and fast boats and Maria is an awesome chef, if you go expect her enchiladas and ribs. will be going back in 2020 read more

I saw bald Eagles every day. caught 41 pound King (measurements+formula). Out of all the boats I did see, pretty sure the Boat that Jim was captain on got the biggest fish. Rhe cooked all the food and it was amazing. must come back! Best place to be in Alaska. Brett the other guide did amazing as well. Words don't give the lodge and people their due. read more
