We stayed at the Hale Kolea Cabin on the recommendation of a friend. Gotta say, it's Paradise in Talkeetna. The cabin is conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood close to downtown Talkeetna, the Gateway to Denali. When we arrived at the Cabin, we were greeted by Naomi, the Cabin manager and contact person. She was friendly and offered a lot of helpful information. The Cabin itself is a year old and beautifully appointed with Hawaiian touches. We liked the open concept layout and modern conveniences. The Cabin is nicer than my house! The kitchen is fully equipped with SS appliances, cookware, dishes, etc. It has everything a cook could need...even spices and oils. We enjoyed quite a few great meals right here at the Cabin. It rained quite a bit during our stay so we appreciated the WiFi and Netflix connections. On those chilly nights, the cabins heater quickly warmed the space and kept it toasty. The beds are SO comfortable, it was tough to get up and get moving in the morning. The river rock shower a nice touch...bringing the outdoors in. There's even a washer and dryer for those on a longer holiday. I'd say the owners of Hale Kolea Cabin did a great job setting up the space. I'm glad it's available for rental and would stay here again in the future. I'm sure you'll enjoy your holiday too!

This behavior is entirely unacceptable. If there are specific rules, they should be clearly posted or communicated to guests in advance. If children are not welcome, this should be explicitly stated in the advertisement. Under no circumstances should anyone walk into a guest's room uninvited, especially while they are in their pajamas, and criticize their parenting. My son was not being loud while warming up his food, even though it was late. Considering it's summer break and the sun stays up longer, it's unreasonable to expect children to follow a strict bedtime. I wish you all the best with your business, but I cannot recommend this place to anyone, life is too short to deal with this kind of non-sense. Avoid ruining your vacation with such an experience.

We stayed at a garden cabin with no hot water, no shower, no toilet within. Outhouse is behind the cottage. We were warned no running water a week before arrival but running water became available by the time we arrived. A cottage has a sink, microwave oven, hot water kettle and coffee machine. A gas fireplace kept us warm at night. We selected based on walking distance from downtown where great restaurants and shops are available. Innkeeper lives nearby and we saw him always working on something. He said he is working to get hot water to this particular cottage and eventually install a shower and a toilet. He was a very hard working and nice person. He came us to pick us up from a bus stop and offered us to take to the train station (both are within a walking distance). If not taking a shower for a few days do not bother you, this is a great little place with privacy and quietness. I even spotted moose twice from a safe distance! I felt like it was a true Alaskan experience for studying a cottage like this.

Each rental is unique, so be sure to carefully review before renting- some are yurts, some are cabins, some are units in a house- but they're all ADORABLE! The campus is very comfy, with several fire pits, BBQs, a cedar sauna, string lights, bird feeders and art work. There's song birds everywhere- it's very ALASKAN. if you're not from here and you want a taste of local, but with all the comforts of home (wifi, TV, warm water, heat, etc) I recommend this over other motel/hotel options. The towels and sheets may not match, but you'll be comfortable, have access to pots and pans, access to bikes, be within walking distance to downtown, and be able to sit in under the forest canopy or in the sauna at night after a busy day. Will definitely return here, probably this winter when there are less tourists around and there's an off season discount.

The lodge was built and designed by Bob, Debbie's lovely rustic furnitures, crafts and drawings are placed around and inside the lodge. Having been living in California for too long, walking in the woods around the lodge suddenly reminded the days when I was a young student in Long Island 25 years ago, everything was green and colorful then. We really like this warm and comfortable lodge, it is like living in your friend's house. Truly envy Bob and Debbie, they are living in such a beautiful land.

Grill outside came in handy when power went out for a couple of hours. Nice mud room for keeping the mosquitos out during the summer and keeping snow/ ice outside of house. Interior is a no shoes home. Complete with washer/dryer and extra freezer for fish storage.
