We ended up trying to go to Denali right when the summer season was just about to end. The weather…read morewas so gorgeous and the park was closing in two weeks meaning that the weekends were totally full for lodging reservations. We were originally going to go straight to Healy but friends convinced me that we needed to stay one night in Talkeetna. And if was a great idea because it's a cute town with a fair amount of restaurants, things to do and shops. So at the last minute I searched high and low and finally found that this place had a room available. And I'm so glad that I booked it! I was a little nervous because we'd have to share a bathroom and I wasn't sure how clean those would be and there weren't many reviews for this place. Well the lodge was awesome. It is kind of set up like a hostel/college dorm situation. There is a shared kitchen on the first floor and then a bunch of rooms that are divided between the first and second floors. The rooms range from simple rooms with just one or two beds where you have to share bathrooms to bigger rooms that had its own private bathroom. We opted to do that shared bathroom thing and it worked out well. The other guests were mindful and pretty quiet the night that we stayed. One thing to be cautious about is that the walls are pretty thin so if you do have loud or inconsiderate folks on the same floor then you may feel disturbed. The bathrooms were clean and comfortable and I was happy to see that. In fact the whole house was really clean and part of this is because you are to remove your shoes when you enter into the building. There is a nice mudroom when you walk in where you can leave your shoes and then wear slippers or socks throughout the rest of the house, this just kept everything really clean and felt really cozy. The rooms were plain and simple, just the bed, nightstand, armoire, and no TV. but that was OK because we just wanted something clean and comfortable for the one night that we were there. You're in Talkeetna to enjoy the outdoors so there's really no reason to spend a lot of time in the room anyways. The owner of the lodge is a very sweet accommodating woman and she leaves every day at 9 PM. If you arrive after that time she will leave the key with your name on the table and this worked out really well for us. We really enjoyed our stay here!

Our bedroom window opened to the woods. We stayed in the guest house but they have cabins as well. Would have been more fun.

Talkeetna Chalet Bed & Breakfast - The bed was comfortable and the sheets were soft, but the 8 pillows were a lot to manage.

We all loved the cozy cabin and will highly recommend. We were in the Denali Room! It was cute and just had that Alaska Feel so welcoming! My texts with the manager pre-arrival with directions and entry instructions were clear and perfect. Didn't have to worry or fret - it was easy peasy! We didn't get to our room till 12:30 am. The welcome sign chalk board with our last Name led the way! Comfortable bed, beautiful room, dog/pet friendly, Small fridge, it was pretty picture perfect! Coffee pods in a Keurig ready for wake up! OH Did I mention the Homemade Banana Bread? SO GOOD! So I went to a client business meeting at Denali State Park and was so disappointed we couldn't bring our four legged friend to stay there. We had to do the meeting and then had to drive 2 hours+ to get half way home but stay close enough to get back to Denali. We wish we had more time to hang around but again this was perfect for the 2 day 1 overnight trip and we would do this again! Talkeetna you have a gem of a place! Thanks all that did what you did!

Talkeetna Chalet Friends suggested the idea of a quiet…read moregetaway in a part of Alaska we hadn't explored yet. We weren't sure we would join them as most cabins are pricey. We learned only a portion of the payment is taken at booking, and the rest is charged the day before check-in. This was not something we remember reading anywhere before the booking process. It would have made us more likely to book when someone suggested these cabins a year ago, knowing the total cost isn't due immediately. Affordability is always a draw! We had a nice weekend, though we were hardly in the cabin during our stay, so it was a fairly neutral experience overall--pros and cons to follow. Pros: **Minutes away from Talkeetna proper. **Military discount. **WiFi. **Plenty of outlets for charging devices. **Pets allowed (though we don't currently have any) @ +$25 per pet. **The cabin is small but uncomplicated; ideal for 2-4 people. **There was a cute personalized welcome sign by the front door upon arrival. **There was a lovely patio set for two that would be fun to enjoy if the weather accommodated. **It was beautifully quiet. (Minus the occasional train horn and the sounds of vehicle doors belonging to other guests at nearby cabins.) **The heat worked well **Open closet/storage shelf and stowaway luggage rack +4 hangers. **Comfortable queen-sized bed with soft sheets and a futon for sitting/extra sleep space. **Kitchenette with mini fridge, microwave, electric kettle, Keurig coffeemaker, and drink options provided for each. Some dishware was also available for use, and a 2-seater bar/eating space. **A nice full bathroom with a glass-enclosed shower and a plethora of towels, as well as a towel warming rack and space heater. The shower also contained a dispenser with shampoo, conditioner, and liquid soap. (Brand labels would be valuable for anyone with sensitive skin/allergies.) Cons: **Dust bunnies on the ceiling beams and cobwebs stretched between track lighting and the ceiling. We avoided using the ceiling fan for fear of displacing more dust when our allergies were already flaring. Dust lined the bottom shelf of the storage space and luggage rack. There was also a dried-up contact lens adhered to one of the bedside tables. **One of the open closet/storage shelves was loose, resting on the bottom one, so we lost a little storage space. We also wished there were more hangers for coats and sweaters. **Excessive pillows and area rugs/mats. We brought our pillows, so managing the 8 pillows on the bed, +futon pillows, felt like an imposition. There was also some sort of stain (oily in appearance?) on the sheets. We tucked away 2 of the more decorative mats during our stay (after slipping on one) because they were hazardous vs. practical without a slip-proof pad underneath. **There was more dust and web strings on the bathroom nightlight. We were excited by the luxurious towel warming rack, but it is mounted so low it seemed dangerous to put wet towels on as they'd rest right on the plugs. Using anything lower than the top rung caused the towel to sit on the floor. **Cabin kitsch. No disrespect intended, as everyone has their style, but this was a little overwhelming, particularly the number of wall hangings and patterns. It detracted from the cabin's existing charm and architecture. To reiterate, it was a nice weekend, though we were hardly in the cabin during our stay, so it was a fairly neutral experience overall.
