Anyway, they're knowledgable, have plenty of resources for the newbie to the virtuoso, and have very reasonable prices. You can rent or purchase, whichever fits your needs better. I needed rehairing on my bow and some minor fixes to a violin and they were able to expertly work on them with no issues whatsoever. Just know that some jobs may require that wait a few weeks depending on their availability so it's better to go in earlier rather than later. So if you're looking to rent a violin to learn and start out or you want restoration work done on your original Stradivarius violin, Desert Strings can do it all. Beautiful instruments! My son has been playing cello religiously for over 2 years and when he had outgrown his 3/4 size cello he was ready for a more serious sounding, professionally crafted instrument. Desert Strings was recommended to us by my son's cello teacher. Even the atmosphere was different. It is not a "music retail store". It's like the instruments there have souls. You will get buy/try options. They also offer a rent-to-own option where you get the chance to make quarterly payments until the instrument is paid off meanwhile you can take it home and use it. Just don't forget the date when it's fully paid off! If you do you will "keep renting" automatically, paying the installments indefinitely. :).... This is definitely our favorite musical instrument store in Vegas! I've known them for about 6 years and currently on the very affordable violin rental service for my kids. Far and away the best, most legitimate pro shop for violin, viola, cello and upright bass repair in Las Vegas, possibly in the West. This is a serious shop that one wouldn't expect to exist in Vegas. If you require the services that a violin shop provides, then you will realize right away how extremely lucky we are to have Desert Strings. The owner-operator (Yanbing Chen) is the founder of Cleveland Violins, and he's also a primary distributor of *the highest* quality bow hair available, which not all bow technicians have the integrity to source, buy or employ. I'm a full-time violinist and I play acoustic jam, rock and hip-hop internationally at private shows that sometimes go for more than 8-10 hours straight - so I must get my bows rehaired regularly and often, lest I find myself wearing out the 4th bow in my case with 3 more shows to go in rural Romania, Brazil, or the Maldives. "D Strings" always seems to have an interesting selection of instruments and bows (wood and synthetic) that represent a good value, too. This shop singlehandedly renders all of the other violin shops in town irrelevant. No serious string player should be going anywhere else to get their instruments / bows worked on. IMO, it's a no-brainer to go 15 mins out of the way to ensure your tools are sharp, strong and true. If you want to fully express your musical ideas, there is just no other way. read more

They are always ready to answer any questions. The shop have a variety of instruments from a beginner to professional musicians. They try to make an effort to meet the sound quality you are looking for in an instrument or bow. They are limited in sheet music, but will order for you. Must check it out. This is a wonderful and friendly shop. And, it is a visual delight as well. I have visited and had work done at other string shops here in the valley, some good, some not so good. This one is at the top of my list for good work, quality, reasonable prices and friendly knowledgeable service. We rent a violin for my daughter here and we are so pleased with the quality service here. The concept is very practical for someone learning an instrument for the first time, adding less costs to an instrument that may potentially not be kept long-term. By daughter has had her violin for over a year and it's only broken a string once and we took it in an it was fixed right away and took the time to repair the other strings. I was extremely happy to have gotten a cello, even if it had a small crack. The sales woman was almost laughing when she saw the brand and told me over and over how she hoped I didn't pay much for it. She told me how cheap it was and how everyone had to repair this kind. I told her it was ok because I was happy with it. So she proceeded to compare it to expensive brands and show me what else was wrong with mine. I am still happy to have it and will pick it up before any work is done on it. Maybe I can't afford a $2000 cello, but I am very happy to have one at all. Very rude woman. read more
