I am so impressed with Violin Outlet. Olivia and Justin spent so much time with me explaining what would need to be done to restore/refurbish a 40 year old violin that was handed down to my daughter. They were both so knowledgeable and explained everything. They also had great prices for the restoring of the violin. It was going to cost about $200 to restore the violin to a playable state and the violin even had 2 small cracks in it. I was also super impressed with Jim who restored the violin. They go that extra mile to help you find the instrument that suits you and find the sound that you're looking for. We've used their private room to try out several instruments and bows. I don't write reviews but made an exception because of a great experience this week! We have been loyal customers Violin Outlet since 2016. They have a rent to own program which is amazing! We have since gotten two instruments from them. We're so glad that we got it from them because they stand by the products they sell. Most importantly, the people there have always been attentive, very honest and courteous. We have never had a bad experience coming here. Earlier this week we went in to you have my daughter's viola (which we got from there last year) restrung as advised by her tutor. When we got there and explained the situation, we were told it just needed adjustment. That saved us $$! I was shopping for a new violin for my boyfriends birthday. I know nothing about the subject. So I called and set up an appointment. When I spoke to Justin, I told him what I was looking for and my price range. When I arrived not only did he have several laid out to choose from but he also played each one for me so I could hear the difference between them all. He helped me narrow it down to 2 and then played them once again to help me decide. He was extremely knowledgeable and patient. He also helped me pick out some supplies for playing and cleaning the violin. Before I left he cleaned, sanitized and tuned it for me. The people who work here are so friendly and knowledgeable! I haven't maintained my violin in a while, and I wanted to make sure I brought it to a reliable shop that specialized in strings. Brenda was very helpful and transparent about the costs of either realigning or replacing my bridge. She also helped me pick out new fine tuners. The service was very prompt and my violin was ready after one business day! They were also very communicative throughout the whole process. To my misfortune, I managed to snap one of my strings the same day I picked my violin up from the shop. Of course, I felt silly coming back in only a few hours later, but the workers were very understanding and attentive. Rahmaan very easily replaced the broken string and its fine tuner (this one was very old and stiff), and even educated me about how fine tuners can affect string quality. At no point did I feel like they were trying to milk more money out of me for services or accessories I didn't need. Because they were so well-informed about string instruments, a few simple replacements became a learning experience for me. Violin Outlet would only have your best interests at heart. A super friendly, old-school, violin shop. The kind I used to go to as a child. They do repairs, sell instruments, sell sheet music (Suzuki, holidays, Pops, and classical standards), and provide lessons. Parking is limited and you might have to park on a side street, or a parking lot within walking distance. If you visit in the fall of 2019, lots of construction on the major cross street makes it tough to maneuver around. read more

I've lived in a number of places and in some of these places I've been lucky enough to find this kind of archetypal small instrument shop with archetypal instrument repairman. Such an instrument repairman is usually incredibly skilled and kind, while seeming of a different world - one maybe in which the instruments are alive and other humans are but mere phantoms. Basically, what I'm saying is Jim did a fantastic job on lowering the tension on my upright bass strings. Bottom line, I could never really play the thing properly and now I can. He also re-haired my bow. He did all this for a very very reasonable price. We're lucky to have such a place and to have Jim. read more

My experience with Violin Outlet is a positive one. When my son's school had their little "rental fair," there were several businesses present to offer their services. The school cafeteria was crowded with fancy displays of intimidating instruments and pushy staff. Violin Outlet was not that way at all. Can't say enough good things about these guys. They are passionate about what they do and it's pretty obvious they know how to do business. My son is at a school that offers orchestra and he chose to play the viola. We rented one from Violin Outlet and they took care of everything. It was the beginning of the school year and they were extremely busy. One thing that was overlooked in the hustle was properly sizing the shoulder rest. Of course the second day my son had it the shoulder rest slipped off and the viola fell. It was destroyed. I returned to Violin Outlet prepared to pay for the viola. Winston and Brenna went above and beyond. They shared in the responsibility for the damage and worked a very fair deal. I paid $100 for the destroyed instrument and they absorbed the balance. This store is a scam artist's dream. I went in for a cello, and though I was treated right away by an employee, I was also immediately greeted with an off feeling and disappointment. The new cellos all looked sketchy (bait and switch), the availability of brands was a joke, and their "deals" were quite misleading. Even my Lyft driver home was telling me the area was bad, and not to trust getting anything there. I highly recommend you go somewhere else for instruments and lessons. read more

Amazing service. We went and purchased a violin for my daughter who is going into 8th grade and on her third year. I didn't want to break the bank, but we wanted a violin that had quality sound. The sales rep gathered a couple of violins and allowed my daughter to go into a room to play each of them. The rep then came in and played them for her to listen too. Their prices were right on what I had seen online. So needless to say, but I will be going back to this store. The only negative about this store is their location. My 11 year old daughter decided to join orchestra this year without discussing or researching it first but she was set on playing the Viola. I looked online and found several places the teacher recommended and while this is for school it would be great to continue throughout her life and I wanted the best options available. I was thinking of renting due to lower initial cost and because of a growth spurt she may go from a size 14 to a 15 in 6 months or so which made me hesitate buying one for a lower price from craigslist or another site. I forgot to look at the store hours and when we got there the back door was open and instruments were being cleaned and they explained they were closed for the day (Sunday) but they were nice enough to help me when I explained I drove from Henderson. I believe Brenna helped us first and then Mara started helping us after...THEY WERE BOTH EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND KNOWLEDGEABLE AND PATIENT while we looked at a few instruments and discussed what we were looking for. We rented and left with a Viola that day and words cannot express how happy my little girl was which also made me very thankful for the awesome customer service we received that day. I know after years of customer service myself that they went above and beyond to help us which I will be forever grateful for. Prices were great for students to rent or to buy which we plan on in the future. I have to say the location is horrible for such expensive instruments and not an area you really want to take your kids. I think that was the only negative to my experience. read more

I was in Vegas for an IT conference and had seen Violin Outlet's website. During a lunch break, I decided to head over. The area is a bit off strip and the area may be off putting but the shop reminded me of piano/music sheet stores we had overseas. Sabrina helped me find a case for my viola, since my case can't fit a shoulder rest and sheet music or books. She also helped me locate an intermediate viola sized for me, which has been a challenge for me, because of my short stature and arm length. After some research and calls, she found me 3 instruments and shipped them to me to Utah, and gave me basically the holidays (over a week) to try them out. She also sent me an intermediate viola bow at a discount. I really appreciated their trust. In the end, I decided on the instrument that sounded best and shipped back the instruments. It was very easy since they had all the packing material, box and packing/shipping slip from FedEx for me to use on the return. Sabrina was really great to work with in the entire process. Fast forward a month, I love the Regh I got, I love my new case, still getting used to the bow, but I feel more encouraged with my practice, and even my husband says I am sounding better (probably with the confidence of a better sounding instrument).
