Both Alan and Jack are Top Notch Luthiers!!! Most of the time for small repairs Alan will do the work while you wait. They are very knowledgeable, and down to earth people... They are the only repair service that I would trust with my guitars and amps equipment. read more

Amazing work from the guy working there. i can't remember his name. I took my 12 string guitar and he put a bridge doctor and adjusted the string action to the point it's the most comfortable i've ever touched. He was efficient and got it done the same day. I would recommend this place to anyone because unlike guitar center this guys knows what he's doing. Many people have played my guitar and said they've never touched and played one so comfortable. read more

Alan at AMD Guitar Works is a total stand-up guy. I'm not a musician myself, but I love music and everything about guitars and basses. I recently bought an instrument that I wanted to add some upgrades to, and I couldn't have chosen a better place in Las Vegas to have it done. Alan gave me a great quote on a bridge change and shared a ton of knowledge about exactly what I needed. Even when some challenges came up with the build, he handled it professionally and 'took care of business.' I couldn't be happier with the quality of the work or the fair price he asked for it. He's a great guy to talk music with, and I'll definitely be back for work on my other instruments. If you need anything done with your guitar, bass, or amp, skip the big box stores and call Alan at AMD read more

I took my Lakland bass Guitar to AMD Guitar Works In Las Vegas, I needed my New Bartolini pick ups I bought re-wired, and installed correctly, and the back of my neck smoothed out. Alan at AMD Guitar works, Took the time and had the patience to conversate with me about how he was gonna go about fixing and resolving the issues, and it felt like I was talking to a friend I've known for a long time, he was extremely knowledgeable, and made me feel confident that it would be done right. Within one week, he called and said it was done, when I got there, the price he charged me was very reasonable, and the work was absolutely impeccable, to be honest I've never had a LUTHIER in Las Vegas do such great work, He went above and beyond, and it turned out way better than I even imagine it would. I am so happy I finally found a LUTHIER in Las Vegas that I can 100% trust, and trust me when I say, he's the best in Vegas, if you want the job done right, and you don't want to have to worry and you want a fair price, This is the guy, I am convinced there is none better than this guy. read more

I'm very happy with AMD. I had 2 guitars and an amp head that all were not working. I'm a hobbyist guitar player these days and the guitars had sentimental value to me as they were 20+ years old. Both Jack and Allen were very honest and explained to me what needed to be done. They also let me know that it may be cheaper if I just bought new equipment as none of my equipment was very valuable. They gave me a quote and it ended up being a little under for my amp. They took the time to do the job right. This is a small business owned by guys with integrity. I spent an hour chatting with Allen about guitars and just trading war stories. It's rare to find people that aren't rushing you in and out and attempting to gouge you for more money. These guys are honest and it was much appreciated. read more

Alan, my new friend from Sandy Hook/ Danbury, of the Metallica/ White Snake past and glorious Las Vegas future (since 2003) with 1 dog, 1 dust mop, and 2 cats (did I get it right?)... We sure did catch up on a lot of history, in the half minute that I dropped off my Takamine for the mysterious broken nut... ... and less than 24 hours later, it was ready for me! Pickup and payment was easy, fair, and above all... my guitar sounds great! I can see why you deserve all the 5 Star reviews, Sir.... pssst: even though you need to brush up on your Elliott Smith and get with the rest of the Gen X program ;) See you around, my friend! read more

These guys are great Alan just worked on setting up my 1979 ES-335 and it has never played better. Jack worked on my 1980's Polytone amp and it sounds brand new with a custom Grill. Prices were fair for the work no overcharging. They will get more if my business read more

I took my son's keyboard to be fixed at AMD over the weekend, and everything could not have gone better. The service I received from Jack was second to none. He repaired the broken key on the keyboard itself (within a few hours, I might add) for an incredibly reasonable price. Communication was flawless and the experience was 100% stress-free. I will be coming here with any future issues with my keyboard for years to come. Thank you, Jack! read more

This review is for 04/12/2024 which is my first visit. I contacted Al thru email coz I have "phone anxiety" and I thought he was not going to reply coz who replies to emails nowadays lol! But he replied and was nice enough to answer my questions. I asked him if could do a setup for my Yamaha Bass cause I have a gig at Cali on 04/19/2024 and I know he's busy with projects and stuff. He squeezed me in, and I was surprised when he texted me that it's done about 3 days before the trip! He also shared with me some great tips and recommendations on how to take care of my bass guitar especially when traveling with it. read more

Honest guy, we went to him for a guitar advice and he'll tell you the truth with recommendations!

Efficient communication and scheduling. 4 string fretless setup and consult about another fretless. I'd highly recommend AMD

I highly recommend it! Alan addressed wiring issues. He explained the process thoroughly, ensuring I understood everything. I'm so pleased with his service read more

Although I had no appointment, the owner accommodated me with fresh strings. Good place. Knowledgeable owner.., very experienced. Will return! read more

Super honest and took time to explain what was needed. As the tech mostly works on electrics, he was able to refer.

Just wanted a strap button put on my brand new $3000 guitar he kept calling it an acoustic and it's a hollow body. I already knew where I wanted the button but he thought he knew better and called my husband (A former professional musician with 30 years experience) a "control freak" We had already driven 30 miles into some of the worst part of town I have seen since I moved here, so we let him drill the hole. The work was fine, but someone needs to explain to him who the customer is. read more

AMD Guitar Works - A Chinese Fodeta Tribute Ying Yang Bass - Musical Instrument Services Near Me - Las Vegas, Nevada

WARNING- Based on my experience today this person is NOT a reliable professional. I spoke to him last week and made an appointment for today (Thursday) at 12:30 . I arrived to see another customer waiting at the locked security front door. We rang the AMD buzzer and called Alans cell phone. Nada. We waited for about 35 minutes. It was clear Alan was not showing up for either of our appointments. A professional would have called us to let us know he was going to be late or not at all. Given this flakey behavior, I would have second thoughts having him work on my guitars. read more

I want to thank Alan for helping me out with choosing the right neck for my Guitar. He replaced the neck on my strat , also did the best set up on the guitar. I also want to thank Jack for an amazing Tube Maintenance/Change on my amplifier. read more

Alan is the best. He got me right in. Clearly passionate and knowledgeable. Takes the time to explain things. He corrected a lot of issues from prior repairs. He will 100% be my new guitar guy from here on out. Can't say enough about him. read more

My Les Paul has some fret buzz and a high action, the neck has gone out of wack. Alan performed a set up with adjustments to the bridge, truss rod and a fret level. When I collected my guitar Jack plugged me in at the workshop so I could check it out. Perfect. Nice low action just like I wanted, zero fret buzz, perfect intonation, perfect set-up. Really good helpful staff too. Highly recommended for any guitar work, and I understand excellent for electronic repairs too. read more

Alan at AMD Guitar Works did a solid job repairing my 1979 Hohner Electric Jazz Bass. The estimate and the actual cost were close even though additional issues popped up and the duration of the repair was reasonable. He explained a few guitar repair nuances to me along the way. I would highly recommend his services. read more

Alan and Jack have the right combination of top-tier professional craftsmanship and sincere hospitality. You will know both you and your instruments are in good hands. I took an acoustic, electric guitar, and an electric bass for repairs and a setup. When diagnosing the instruments, instead of just handing me a list of everything wrong with a price, Alan and Jack walked me through their thoughts step by step and even gave advice on how to increase the durability and longevity of the instruments. They don't just fix problems, they go above and beyond to make sure you are able to play as comfortably as possible, and your instruments are able to last as long as possible. Alan had his schedule packed with repairs, but still made time and even insisted he will finish all 3 guitars so I would only have to make one trip to pick up instruments. There is a reason why they have such stellar reviews and I was glad I took the chance with them. Not only did I discover 2 professional craftsmen proud of the outstanding work they provide, but also some friends who will go above and beyond for you and your instrument. Treat them with respect and they will definitely help you out to the best of their abilities. Thanks guys! read more

First, I would preface this review by saying this review is not about Alan in any way. I have no experience as a customer with him, as I do my own guitar work on my Strats and such. Jack Secret, the Amp/electronic tech however, has been a colossal disappointment. I brought my Carvin X100b in for service and repair on November 12th. He wrote up a work order and I took a pic of it. Without any inquiry on my part as to a turnaround timeline, of his own volition he stated before I left that he would probably open my amp up that night. I personally thought that to be unlikely, but speculated probably the following day sometime, maybe. So..... based on his parting statement, I thought it reasonable to inquire over the phone a bout a week later as to the status of my amp. I was told by him that he hadn't opened it yet, but give him another weekend. So I did. on November 30th, I called him once again, only to be told he needed another week to get a chance to look at it (!), and he would call me when it's done. Three weeks later, I call him yesterday, only to be informed that he's not in the shop (back problems), and that someone else is digging around in my amp! He told me that he would call me back yesterday to give me a status report. No call. So far, what he tells me and what actually transpires have yet to match. I made decisions based on what he told me. And now I have no idea who is actually working on my amp. Further, I also will have no idea as to his competency as a tech, Since the person I hired to repair my amp isn't going to be the one doing the repairs. A man of excuses that has yet to be a man of his word. read more

I brought in a new Ukulele and Alan found some manufacturer defects that I didn't have an eye for. Advised me to seek a refund instead of repair. Very professional high integrity shop. Will 100% work with in the future. read more

The clean channel went out on my Albion tube amp. I had every intention of dropping it off. Jack met us at the door using all proper pandemic protocol. He invited us into his shop and had the Amp fixed in about 20 minutes all the time sharing valuable info about my amp that will help me keep it preforming at a high level for years to come. Jack really knows his business and is well beyond being a tech, far more of artist at his trade. Outstanding customer service, great work, extremely low prices, and a very enjoyable experience all the way around. I'm almost looking forward to another piece of gear breaking so I can go back to their shop. These guys love music to the point where they want everyone's gear at it's best. They Keep Vegas Rockin. We are lucky to have Jack and Alan working in our community. Dan Zarling read more

AMD Guitar Works has done outstanding work on my Switch Futura V, Gibson Les Paul and '63 Fender Jazzmaster. It's obvious that Alan Dreher is passionate about what he does. Don't be in a hurry: great work takes time. His pricing is reasonable and the quality of his work is outstanding! read more

Alan & Jack are my favorite super heros when it comes to fixing and building gear!! I trust them with all of my musical equipment!!

I brought my very old acoustic guitar here last week for repair. I had neglected it for many years (and it showed), but Alan quickly brought it back to life. I'm extremely happy with the result and I have been playing it every day since. As a bonus; him, Jack, and a customer there that day were all a pleasure to talk to. Highly recommended. read more

Alan is an expert at guitar repairs. I don't know what else he personally does, but he works with two guys who repair amps, keyboards and other electronic musical instruments. I've had Alan install two pickups, replace the pots and toggle switch in my Les Paul, install a graphite nut, and install copper shielding. Top notch work. He's completely transformed my guitar. The guy is also one of the nicest people I've met in Las Vegas. I'm a total amateur but he explains everything to me in a really accessible manner without even a hint of snobbery. I learn a lot every time I get work done. He loves guitars and he's made me appreciate mine a lot more. If you need work done he's your guy. His work is spectacular (I'm pretty sure he said he's Garth Brooks's guitar guy - but he seems like he's into heavier music), his prices are more than reasonable (I'm a broke grad student if you want a reference point), and, again, the dude is super cool. You have to call first. It's not a store, it's a work space inside an office building. Give him a ring. Trust me. read more

I paid for parts in advance. After waiting two months, I was very worried I wouldn't get my amp back. The amp guy that apparently goes by a fake name tried to charge me for parts and labor at the end. I don't think he did it on purpose, he seemed confused. When I proved I already paid for the parts, he lost his temper, and told me to get out. He never gave me the old supposedly bad vintage parts from my amp I requested. It was such a negative experience, I didn't want to test my amp, because if it didn't work, it would crush me. I finally tested it yesterday, after three months. It worked for five seconds, then the overdrive channel stopped working. I knew I would never go back there, even for a free warranty repair within a reasonable time. read more

Alan is hands-down the best guitar tech I've met in Vegas. He's worked on my various guitars and basses and is the only tech that dials them in exactly the way I like. He's a master at his craft and great to work with. Just played two shows this weekend with my band, Daze Gone By, and he has my Ernie Ball sounding the best it has since I bought it. I brought my cursed Telecaster to Alan. No other tech I brought it to was able to get it right. He brought it back to life. Since then, I've brought my guitars to AMD for servicing. Alan re-fretted my Eric Johnson Stratocaster. Not only did he get it done extremely quickly (while being swamped with other customers), the quality of his work exceeded factory new condition. The guitar played like a dream and the attention to detail was second to none. There are many guitar techs in town. Most of them have no clue what they're doing. With AMD, you don't have to wonder. Being a full-time working musician, I have to have a tech I can trust. I won't trust anyone else with my guitars. read more

I came to these guys after Guitar Center Town Square couldn't fix my bass guitar during the three weeks they had it. After making an appointment, I walked into their shop, explained what was going on, and before I could finish my sentence, Allen had opened up the electronics box and was figuring things out. He saw what GC tried to do, explained why it didn't work, and that he had the right part. He then said if I could wait around for half an hour, he could get it done. 3 weeks at Guitar Center vs 30 minutes at AMD. These guys are knowledgeable, professional, and decent guys. I recommend dropping by just to talk about music and instruments with these guys, even if you don't need any repair. read more
