She was referred to this plastic surgeon by my sister. I trusted that recommendation, and I personally took my friend to meet with this doctor. I also took her to her surgery, and she stayed at my house for seven days afterward while I took care of her. From the very beginning, I could see that something was wrong with the result. The outcome of the surgery was extremely disappointing. My friend worked for one year and two months to save $11,000 for this liposuction. She worked hard for that money and trusted this doctor with her body and her dreams. Unfortunately, she feels that the result was extremely poor, and she says the doctor refused to correct the problems afterward. What made the situation even worse was the follow-up care. She was apparently expected to pay for a consultation just to have the doctor evaluate her after the surgery. There was also an appointment that had been confirmed. I drove from my home in Union, picked her up in another city, and took her to the doctor's office. We arrived exactly on time--and the doctor wasn't even there. The appointment had not been canceled, and nobody informed us that he would not be there. When we originally consulted with him, we asked to see before-and-after photos of patients he had operated on. He did not show us any photos. But because my sister had recommended him, I trusted that recommendation and believed we were making the right decision. Today, I feel terrible and guilty that I encouraged my friend to trust this doctor. My friend is devastated. She cries, she feels embarrassed and emotionally hurt, and she believes that the way she was treated was connected to the fact that she is transgender.
