Yesterday was not my first visit to Dermatology Specialist - Boulder. Dr. Simmons, first time seeing me, was keenly prepared for my dermatology procedures due to her prior review of my chart. Every second counts during a dermatology exam/ treatment. Dr. Simmons, with her dermatology assistant, provided exam details clearly and expertly for me. A patient can thank an MD like Dr. Simmons but that hardly expresses the gratitude necessary to convey a thank you the matches the care Dr.Simmons offers through her thorough exam coupled with her dermatology expertise. read more

Helen went above and beyond to help me navigate a frustrating process with a specialty pharmacy. She was thorough, compassionate, and even followed up late on a Friday to make sure everything was resolved. When others kept passing me along, Helen stepped in and became the solution--professional, personal, and truly effective. In addition, Dr. Laura Huff has been outstanding in helping me manage my ongoing eczema issues. She takes the time to really listen, explains treatment options clearly, and works with me to adjust my care plan as needed. She doesn't allow me to accept "This is as good as it's going to get" and pushes me to seek better results. Her expertise and compassion have made a noticeable difference. read more

This is a correction to my review of March 5, 2025, since there doesn't seem to be an option to edit my original review. It's now been eight months since Dr. Olander performed surgery on my cheek. The scar is not flat, but I mistakenly said that there were two distinct lumps. I now know that one of those lumps is a mole that I had not noticed before the surgery. There was, and still is, one distinct lump. Hopefully, she removed all the cancer, but the cosmetic result is very disappointing. read more

Best derm I've been to in Boulder!!! Shannon Detty in particular is amazing. Not only is she good at what she does (cleared up my acne and a lot of issues that I developed as a result of another, less quality Boulder derm...) she's also incredibly kind and helpful. DR. LAURA HUFF IS GREAT! Dr Huff is extremely professional, personal and everything you hope for in your doctor. The entire Loveland, Colorado, office staff is wonderful. Dr. Huff was recommended highly when we moved to Colorado and we're very happy that we listened to the recommendation. She has treated our entire family for years including ages from 6 to 75. She's well versed in her field and so positive. Who looks forward to a doctor visit? But with Dr Huff's demeanor, all ages in our family go happily to their appointments. The best part? She's very generous with her time. Although her main office is in Loveland, Colorado, she also comes to the Boulder, Colorado office, too.We couldn't be happier with the Dermatology Specialists group, especially Dr. Laura Huff! read more

Arrogant, dismissive and unprofessional...one of the worst medical offices I have ever been to. I was referred for the removal of a Xanthelasma by another dermatologist. When I called to make the appointment, the first question I asked is if they accepted my insurance. They said yes, but that they had no appointments available for 5 months. I was clear what the appointment was for, and they had received the diagnosis from the other dermatologist. When the time finally rolled around for my appointment I arrived to find out the doctor was sick, and nobody had notified me. Instead of apologizing to me, they argued that they had notified me. I had driven 1/2 hour for the appointment. Rude, uncaring and unremorseful but they scheduled me for a few days later. Since I had waited so long, I acceptd the appointment... upon arrival and getting into the examining room, they reviewed the information I had provided and then the nurse came back and informed me that they did not take my insurance and it would be all out of pocket. Not only that, that I would have to pay for that appointment, but that they weren't going to do the procedure on that day, it was jut a $145 visit to see the doctor, even though another dermatologist had already diagnosed me. The care here is wonderful. Message for the billing department: don't tell patients they are "incredibly inconsistent at making payments" when they've missed one payment in 12 months. Also improve your systems so you don't lose track of months of payments being made. Care is excellent but make sure your care is covered, dealing with their billing department has not been a pleasant experience. read more

I went to their office in Brighton. The physician I spoke with spent less than 5 minutes with me. She offered no service whatsoever and failed horribly in offering suggestions what I should do. They billed my insurance company well over $200.00 claiming she spent and hour with me. Then they had the nerve to send me additional charged. I am contesting this with my insurance. read more

I visited the Boulder location. Not only did I have to wait an hour to see the physician, but once she entered the room, she spent less than 5 minutes with me and rushed through treatment options. The receptionist spent more time with me reviewing how to use the product they recommended to treat my dermatitis. To have a physician rush a patient who is obviously seeking treatment because they have a skin condition and are self-conscious about it is not an enjoyable or supportive experience. I had a day procedure on my legs and that night my skin had a bad reaction along with dime size blisters! I called there Emergency after Hours and left 3 detailed messages NO ONE RETURNED MY CALLS. I needed help right away I had no choice but to go to Boulder Community Hospital ER. The ER Doctor and nurse could not get ahold of them to find out what medication was used on my skin. Dermatology Specialists of Boulder, PC called me the next day at 10:34 it was too late by then... I have nothing but praise for the staff who work in this office. I had a Mohs Surgery performed last year and have been there for exams and am totally supportive of this excellent business. They are professional and caring and the front desk is superb! read more

I've had 3 MOHS surgeries with Dr. Allen and a handful of biopsies with Dr. Simmons. Both are amazing professionals and I can't recommend them enough. Their office is efficient and everyone is kind and helpful. I see them often and every experience has been a good one. read more

I went in to see Dr. Wallace yesterday, and I had an overall great experience. I just went in for a routine skin check and she answered all of my questions and did not seem rushed at all. I also loved how short the wait time was. It seems like nowadays when you go to a dr's office the wait times are always horrendous. That was not the case at this place. I got there, signed in, sat down for not even 2 minutes in the waiting room then got called back where the assistant reviewed my history, got changed, and then dr. Wallace came in. They were extremely efficient. I also want to say that the front desk/administrative team were fabulous. Every time I called, they actually answered the phone and didn't put me on a "brief hold" for 20 minutes. They were friendly and professional AND they were able to figure out my insurance easily and gave me no problems on their end. It's rare that you find a great doctor and great office. I've written a lot of reviews for other offices where it's one or the other but dermatology specialists of boulder seems like a well-rounded great practice. read more

Had an appointment recently with Dr. Simmons and I do not think I will be back. The appointment itself was less than 15mins for a full body skin check and I was billed almost $180 for it! I was rushed during the appointment and she was condescending when speaking with me. I called to complain and basically got a phone call back from Susie only because she might have been obligated to, not necessarily because she cares if I come back or not. Susie also asked when she thinks my insurance will pay. It had only been two days so I doubt insurance had even processed anything yet. But that wouldn't be my problem anyway, talk to your own billing department! This was unprofessional and really tacks on to her unprincipled character. She also stated she would speak with Dr. Simmons and then toward the end of the conversation said they already spoke to each other. I was also told by Susie that Dr. Simmons stated she is "confident" in her exam she gave me. If the manager and the doctor can feel confident enough that I received a good exam when I didn't then this is not the office for me, which is unfortunate because the front desk ladies are pretty exceptional. read more

Dr. Allen is a bit awkward and not particularly personable. His confidence level seems to exceed his skill level. The practices of the business office are absolutely parasitic. Whether or not your insurance claim has been filed or payment has been received, the accountant will harass you to reconcile your account, even before it is due. read more

Sent in a request for a record transfer from a previous doctor who was retiring, which was totally ignored. The staff at DS did nothing. The staff does not care about anything, especially the patients. When I called to sort the problem out, I got feeble excuses. If this is the way they take care of their patients, forget it. read more

I would never go anywhere else for my dermatological needs! I had 2 Mohs surgeries done for skin cancer - on the corner of my nose and on my neck. I trust Dr. Allen - he clearly has amazing expertise, is efficient and amiable, and runs an office that exudes caring and efficiency. You can't tell I had any procedure done on my nose. I just had the procedure on my neck today and am completely confident it will be the same. The staff - from the reception desk folks to the assistants to the doctors - are friendly, professional, and caring. In fact, it was the woman (Tiffany) who I saw to to a BBL (Broadband Light treatment) on my face who noticed the cancerous spot on my neck, which was not obvious to me, and which prompted me to have it checked. I will now also go for a more complete cosmetic consult. I have also seen Dr. Simmons, who I thought was excellent with her expertise and friendliness. read more

I went in seeking treatment for hyper pigmentation (or melasma). I paid a substantial amount of money for treatments that did NOTHING for me (aside from lightening a few superficial freckles that I could care less about to begin with). In fact, when all was said and done my skin was FAR worse from when we had started. In addition to pricey laser treatments, I was advised to purchase several over-priced topical creams that only made matters worse - much worse. I found my skin to become entirely unmanagable and hands down the worse I had EVER experienced it to be. Discouraged and frustrated I sought out a second dermatologist altogether where I got the most incredible treatment and results after ONE visit. Giving 'place number two' the run down of the creams & treatments I was receiving at Dermatology Specialists of Boulder, they were astonished that this was their "professional" approach as was evidence by the incredible results I was now getting elsewhere. My personal opinion is that Dermatology Specialist of Boulder was such a huge waste of time and an even bigger waste of money... for me(!!) anyway. I realize that everybody's skin will react to treatment differently and it's difficult to know what will and won't work for each individual... but isn't' that what I'm paying a "professional" for? To know better than I do and to provide adequate treatment - especially when you consider how much this place is charging me?! I was very disappointed with their approach and underwhelmed with their expertise and felt they had a limited arsenal of knowledge in dealing with melasma in particular. read more
