I would like to share our experience, hoping other families will find it helpful. We have been treated unethically and unprofessionally by Wu Pediatrics. As clearly stated by our insurance PPO Silver plan; all preventative services should be covered in full by our family plan. Wu Pediatrics threatened to send our medical bills to collections and neglected to inform, that all charges were for preventative services. As per their demand, we have paid requested amounts in full. Only to find out later same day that we should not have been charged at all. When we requested for the refund to be issued they refused. Being fully aware they charged us unlawfully, they would not refund us before all claims would be reprocessed. Finally, 30+ days later when all claims got reprocessed and came with Zero Patient responsibility owed ... they still attempt to deny us our refund. After I pressed for it, insisting that they have no legal basis to deny us the refund, they agreed. In the same email, they have notified us that they will no longer service our family and we better look for another Pediatrician. (see copies) Parents, be aware of their practices. They are counting on you not being aware what your insurance plan cover, and often will charge you twice, asking you to pay deductible in the office and later also billing your insurance company. Note, 95% of all medical insurance plans do cover in full your kid's preventative services. If you are presented with the bill balance, before you pay be sure to call your insurance and confirm the amount owed. It is likely, you will not have to pay anything. Luckily my kids are hardly ever sick and I don't really bring them to the doctor. It's only been for their yearly physicals. Never actually seen Dr. Wu only Dr. Munavar. I am sorry more likely butchering her name so sorry. She has seen both of my kids and let me tell you I highly recommend her. She is awesome with my kids. Answers all my questions, seems not to rushed with our visits. Knows how to handle my child with special needs. Very kind and friendly. We are really happy with her. When I was pregnant with my first kiddo I was looking at 25 pediatricians, trying to find the right one for my family. I came across Dr. Wu's Yelp page and liked that the commute wasn't too far and that he had good reviews. He also has other Doctor's who work at his office that we trust on the days he isn't there. My children and I have had great experiences with Dr. Wu, Dr. Munawar, Dr. Quijano, and Dr. Chuang. All are very knowledgeable and great at taking care of my kids at their regular checkups or when they are injured or sick. Whenever I have an emergency, I know I can call the after hours phone number and get a response or call back. I also love that I can email a photo with a concern and get a reply or call back letting me know that medication has been ordered or how to care for the concern. At the moment, both my children see Dr. Chuang, who is amazing. He is calm, reassuring, informative and does an awesome job with checking in and making sure my kids get the proper care they need even if it extends outside his office. The office used to take HMO plans but that changed a couple years ago. If you are a new patient you have to have a PPO plan to go to his office. read more

I wholeheartedly LOVE the entire staff at Dr. Wu's office. This is the easiest pediatrician's office I ever had to interact with. I see some negative reviews and I have to admit, if it super serious like a broken arm, you should take your child to go see Urgent Care or the ER. To wait for the doctor to tell you it's a broken arm, come on. For me, my two toddler sons are complicated because they have learning disabilities such as speech delay and possibly some signs of autism. Their office has been extremely prompt in getting the referrals I need to help my sons to get preventive care. If I don't like a particular specialist after a visit and I ask Dr. Wu's office for another referral, they promptly request it for us right away. At the latest, it is the next day. Everyone in that office is very professional and very pleasant to interact with. You may think it is weird that the doctors are mainly looking at their computers during a visit but they are listening and they documenting what is happening to make sure everyone is on the same page if there is a question about your kids. That part is super important because information is shared so anyone with medical knowledge can look at their notes and recommend the right things for your child. I commend Dr. Wu's office for allowing patients to communicate through email. Sometimes pictures and words are expressed better over email. The best part their office doesn't require you and your kids to come to the office in order to get a referral, they just do it and scan you a copy of the referral via email. There was a time my son couldn't stop vomiting for several days but he looked and acted like his normal hyper self. I just emailed them what was happening and they send a prescription to my local pharmacy. And right now, my older son has a stye and I emailed Dr. Wu's office at 10;30PM and guess who was up around 1am??? Dr. Wu, he answered my email and asked his staff to send a prescription eye drops to our local pharmacy. WOW! Both Dr. Mamawar and Dr. Wu are amazing doctors. The most super fantastic part of their office, you can make SATURDAY appointments!!!! SATURDAY!!! A non-work day for us parents. FANTASTIC! Thank you Dr. Wu's team for everything your group does!!! They work hard and hustle, as a parent I am very very thankful. read more

Usually only have to come to the doctors for yearly check ups. My daughter got pretty sick this time and nothing I was doing was helping. The lady on the phone told me there wasnt an availability and no cancellations, it would be 2 days until they can see her. She asked what was her symptoms. Once I told her she asked if I can be there at 4 and they will squeeze her in. Literally so happy with how accomadating they are and to see that they do care for their patients. read more

Dr. WU has been my pediatrician for almost 3 years. I just love him and have nothing but good things to say about him. I found him by accident as I was referred to dr. Samsamy when I was pregnant. .well by the time I had the baby..Dr S was retiring and turning the business over to Dr Wu. at first I was a little hesitant because I had never met with him but once I met him I knew we were in good hands. he is very thorough, takes his time with each family and he even has young kids of his own and I just love that! I love the fact that he is young and seems up to date with new technology. what's even more impressive is that he actually answers his phones on weekends, I am completely shocked by this. I needed to switch the primary care provider for my sons, due to the passing of their pediatrician. I was given Dr. Wu's information by my insurance provider, Anthem Blue Cross. I reached out to the office last week to confirm they took my insurance, they confirmed that they did. I made the switch through my insurance and called to make an appointment today...only to be informed they no longer take my insurance. I was recommended to Dr. Wu by a few medical professionals I know after taking my twins to another practice that I was so unhappy with. Let me say, Dr. Wu is fantastic. For one, he's always available when I have questions. Secondly, he's so thorough with our visits and I always leave with so much knowledge. My daughters have been patients with Wu Pediatrics for almost four years. We all love this office. The doctors always take great care of our girls. Dr. Munawar has always been very kind and gentle. Shes easy to talk to about behavioral challenges with kiddos. They have recently seen Dr. Anthony and they both loved him. He's takes time to kindly greet them and then talks them through the exam. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILD HERE..HORRIBLE HORRIBLE BEDSIDE MANNER! Front office staff are friendly an helpful. Dr Wu is another story. Always rude and makes you feel like you are inconveniencing him by being there. I have made the mistake of staying with this Dr for the last 4 or so years, only because we had to go there for just routine visits and immunizations. But now I have had it. Went in March 2017 due to a bathroom issue with my son. Was told by the other Dr in the office (woman and very nice) that he had anxiety and it would clear up on its own. No medical test done, just listened to his belly. Went back at the end of May because it hadn't gotten any better, and I wanted to get info on where he is academically. Dr Wu walked in, not even a Hi, Hello or Good Morning. Just barked " Whats wrong" I told him and he said " Put him on the table''. He had my son lay down and when he felt his belly my son laughed. he barked " relax". Then said he need to go to therapy, and would probably need special education classes. WHAT??? The whole appointment literally lasted maybe 3-4 minutes. Said "Follow me to the front" and he left the room, never saw him again. Front desk sent a referral through for a therapist for my son. Saw the therapist and she even asked if the Dr did any medical tests on my son. Nope! None at all. I changed Drs in June, and at his 1st visit, I explained to her whats been going on. She said immediately its "XXXXX" and that she knew what it was as soon as I started talking. Its an ACTUAL MEDICAL CONDITION! She said that all the issues would have been avoided if the previous Drs did what they were supposed to do, and actually listen to me. Now after all the time that passed, he now has to see a Gastroenterology Dr. He's 5yrs old!! My son suffered with this issues all this time because Dr Wu didn't take the time to actually listen to whats going on. Our new Dr, Dr Amy Tran is absolutely wonderful, nice and actually talks to my son when she come in the room to see him. She's friendly and you can tell she genuinely likes kids. Dr. Wu and his colleagues are a wonderful bunch of doctors. My kids have been seeing him for about 5 years now. I got let go of my job around that time and I was frantic to find a GREAT doctor who treated their patients accordingly and not based off of what type of health care plan they were on. I decided to give Wu Pediatrics a shot. A couple years before going to Dr. Wu, my kids went to another nearby pediatrician. My youngest son was born with a cat like cry and I was worried, but my old pediatrician pretty much laughed at he and told me to calm down. According to them, there was nothing wrong with my baby. He looked normal. I was concerned so I looked up 'cat like cry in a baby' on the internet and it came up with a genetic disorder. My old pediatrician told me not to research because nothing was wrong. Around then, I lost my job and found Dr. Wu. He jumped right on the ball and he took my concerns seriously so we had my son tested and mother instinct was right. He did have cri du chat. I have also had many concerns about my children's health, and as usual, these situations and concerns always happen in the middle of the night for some reason. I called the number for the doctor on call and the doctor on call has always been Dr. Wu. I rarely need to leave a message, because he usually picks up right away, and the times that I leave a message, he is very prompt and calls back within 5 min. I actually like Wu Pediatrics better than the other group that I went to. I highly recommend Wu Pediatrics. read more

I called on a Saturday, there was no after hours number to call. I left a message on Dr Wu's voicemail, he called me back Monday at 10:30am. We had already been at the hospital since Saturday night. I told him that and all he said was "ok" and proceeded to hang up. He didn't ask why or anything about my daughter. I couldn't believe he was quick to get off the phone. I had taken her to him last week with the same issue and he said she just had a cold, no need to worry. The hospital said he should have tested for RSV as a precaution, which is what she has. Thankfully my other daughters pediatrician called me back on Saturday and told me to go the the ER. No thanks to Dr Wu...he doesn't know what he is doing. Go to Columbia Pediatrics in Long Beach if you want good, experienced doctors that actually care about their patients. Dr Wu is also the only Dr in his practice which is not convenient if he isn't there. I don't recommend Dr Wu at all. Very disappointing! read more

Never had a issue with the care Dr. Wu provided my daughter but yesterday that all changed. Dr. Wu's office has decided to change his policy on treating children who are either unvaccinated or on a alternative vaccine schedule. Since my daughter is on a alternative schedule that means she no longer has a doctor. Problem with that is Dr. Wu didn't mail any notification of the policy change out until January 6th, it didn't get to me until January 8th, and the letter stated the new policy was effective January 1st. Meaning by the time I got the letter my child already no longer had a doctor and since her insurance requires you to notify them of physician changes in advance that means she has no doctor for the entire month of January...in the middle of flu season. They have the total right to change their policy but NOT without at least a little prior notification. Last I checked that is considered patient abandonment. I have reported this to every agency possible including the medical board and the medical group I am subscribed with (who said this is a major violation of their provider agreement) Update: After posting this I emailed Dr. Wu directly and really laid into him. He responded that I misunderstood the letter, that it was just a courtesy notice to let me know to start looking for a new doctor, and that until I found one he is still my daughters doctor. Whoever composed the letter may have misspoke but I did not misunderstand a single word on that paper. And if I had truly misunderstood don't you think that his office staff would have corrected my misunderstanding when I called them about it. My daughters are patients of Dr. Wu, and we love him. He is very attentive, and spends lots of time with us during our visits. I have had a couple of occasions where I reached out to him on a weekend and he has gotten right back to me. My youngest daughter has had a few breath holding spells, and rather then guess everything is fine, he referred us to respiratory and pulmonary doctors to be safe. Dr. Wu's office is AWESOME with dealing with children in foster care and understanding the social services system and the requirements that social services places on foster parents. Most other offices not affiliated with foster care system don't "see the point" in many of the county required forms. Dr. Wu's office gets it an made our experience very simple. read more

My baby girl has been to Dr. Wu twice now. Once for her first wellness check up and another time for eczema concerns. So far, I've had a great experience with Dr. Wu and his practice. His assistants and nurses are very kind and good with children. Dr. Wu is very thorough in his examinations and explanations- thorough enough to ease any new moms' worries. He is also very kind and personable. We're going in again for baby's next wellness check up soon and I'm looking forward to it. read more

At first I was excited to find a new, younger Dr. to be on my daughters health care team. Sadly, as time went on he seems to be completely over worked and incompetent. My daughter was treated for at least a year for running, dripping eyes with allergy medication. Turns out she needed a very complicated eye surgery. OK, I can understand its hard to diagnose abnormalities under the skin. But thin this happened; My daughter has been very sick. I took her in and Dr. Wu spent 90 seconds said she is fine because her ears and nose were clear. We ended up at urgent care the next day.. She had MONO!!! Really? Very disappointed in quality of care. My two-year-old has a fever that has gone over 102. I managed it with Tylenol. I called the office at 8 o'clock in the morning. Requested an early morning visit while my baby was stable, with no temperature. My baby also had labored breathing. Vanessa in the office stated that I could not have an appointment until afternoon, which seems absurd to me. She said that if my baby symptoms were exacerbated for me to go to the emergency room. Why?! There was no point in going to the ERat 8, as my baby had no temperature at that point. But if I am telling you that she has episodes of labored breathing at a high temperature why not accommodate me at nine in the morning when the practitioner is there?! And this leads me to believe that Vanessa the office manager, has no concept of patient acuity nor cares for quality of care. When I went into the office for my visit, my baby had a temperature of 101.4, the Doctor Who saw her said that it was not his office but he would relay my concerns to management. I will say that prior to this I was very content with how empathetic the practitioners were, and how they listened to my concerns. Dr. Derek Wu has recently taken over all of the patients for Barry Samsamy, M.D, since he now retired. I was VERY SAD to see him retire especially giving his patients NO notice! He was very skilled and GREAT with Babies but THANK GOD, he picked a GREAT DOCTOR to fill his shoes! I have been seeing Dr. Wu about 6 months and each time the office staff (who is the same staff as Dr. Samsamy) is extremely friendly, helpful, great with kids and as for the office, usually there is little to no wait. I read the comment above about the Mother not being able to reach the Doctor over the weekend and I found out that the BEST way to REACH the Doctor, when all else fails, write him a comment/message on his webpage, it goes directly to him and he got back to me within 15mins!!! I had to say WOW, that was impressive!!! When you meet Dr. Wu, he is kind and he does care about his patients and any questions you may have. Being a New Mommy myself, It's hard to put your trust into a young Doctor that they know everything to treat your baby and Dr. Wu has exceeded my expectations. He is a great listener, Great Bedside manner and he will wait to answer any additional questions you may have before you leave. We LOVE Dr.Wu and his staff! When I switched insurances last year I was determined to find a good pediatrician. After lots of reviewing and online research I found Dr.Wu and till the day I have been extremely happy with his care and service. They always find a way to squeeze my children in when needed, are always accommodating and super sweet. I love the service Dr. Wu provides, he always takes his time and answers all my questions. I am not sure whether the doctor office need to be cleaned by professional janitors or not, but for sure this office is definitely not the case. By entering the office, you first noticed that "dust" around you. I expect the hygiene should do better than this especially for Kids / Infants around. The assistant doing his job for screening my son with lollipop in his mouth. Not easy to managed myself to see the doctor in the room we were sent, the man entered the room and claimed himself the Doctor Wu with his "Crewman's outfit". I further explained the nature of the visit with information and reports. He started entering few letters to his laptop and asked us to leave the room and followup him out back to the lobby. He basically gone in 60 seconds without no explanation, physical checkup my son nor asking no questions. I later told by the manager Staci Wu who claimed herself Assistant physician that is not the job to explain to patient by the doctor but she does. I'm been going to this office since 1994 when I delivered my first child. It was previous dr so when my md retired I said I will give this md a chance. I love dr wu he very detailed he took time to read my daughter chart so it took awhile since she was already 16. My daughter is special needs and he wanted to know everything in her chart. He referred me to specialist just to make sure if some things. He re assured me she was ok. Just always have to make sure I always ask for appt with him. Sometimes they will send you with the other md, she's ok but I prefer his help. Staff is good I love Vanessa she always helps me with questions known her since she started. Dr. Wu has been seeing my boys since they were born. One time we saw another doctor in the practice and weren't nearly as happy, so I always make sure to schedule him. He is genuinely concerned about patient welfare and wellness. He takes all the time I need to answer questions and concerns, and I am very pleased with his rapport with my babies. Very friendly! There is not a long wait, and the office staff are also quite friendly. I had a hard time finding a doctor that would take pre-term babies, and this office did, and I'm happy that we discovered Dr. Wu. read more

I was very upset today because I woke up and drive in a hurry not to be late for my baby's 9AM appointment with Dr. Wu. And when I got here the lady in front desk told me I have a balance of $10 last september. So I went to my bag to get my wallet but I found out I left it at home. I asked them if I can pay it the next day and that they didn't remind me of it. They told me they don't have my number, but I put it on the checklist they gave me when my baby got her shot. I'm sure of that. And that was last september. I was here too for Nov. vaccine. How come they didn't told me? And guess what? They didn't let me go see the doctor. Just for $10. As if I'm not gonna pay them the $10. This is so frustrating! read more

Unfortunately, my experiences have declined with Dr. Wu's office with a complete negative 360 including my recent experience where I was only offered an appointment the following day for my daughter who had a broken arm and were not informed after a full day after the visit. Over 48 hours where things could have gotten worse. The following day after we tried to get an appointment we took her in and were told we needed x rays done. We got the X-rays done in an nearby office and then returned the results to Dr Wu's office. We were told he could not interpret the results and they would require a specialist to do so and we would receive the results in a couple of hours. No call back that day :( . We received a call the next morning that our two year old daughters arm was injured and to take her to a recommended Pediatric orthopedist. Turns out her arm was broken and we only received the news from the specialist. Another time we took our daughter to the office for some rashes which were appearing on her body were written off as a heat rash by Dr Munawar. It was actually misdiagnosed entirely which in turn infected another young child as cause and later diagnosed as hoove and mouth disease as diagnosed by Dr. Wu in a secondary appointment. Utter carelessness. While I kind of trust Dr Wu, I do not trust his associates. I will be seeking out alternative pediatricians unfortunately. read more

I have never received such poor unprofessional customer service from an office manager at this office Stacy. I had an appointment for my son today, and was denied service for an old bill from September of $7.52 if not payed today, I explained I never received a bill from your office nor did I receive an EOB from the insurance saying that I owed that balance otherwise I would have payed it, I always keep in contact with your biller Violet and I pay my bills as they come to me. Unfortunately I did not have the money to make a payment today and they would not see him unless I payed on the old date of service from September of $7.52. My mother who took him to the appointment ended up paying out of her pocket but also did not come prepared to make that payment. I spoke with the office manager Stacy and she said we will go ahead and refund the money back to your mom so she can pay the exit parking fees, and your son will be seen today. So my son was seen, after the visit they did not refund the money and told my mom and son he can leave he was good to go. So as my mom exited the building they ran after her to the parking lot and said were not going to refund you but here is a parking pass. When I called the office manager back to ask why she was not refunded the money back after she said she would refund the money back to her because we did not have the funds, she was really rude with me and very unprofessional and got loud with me and said your son was seen today and we are not going to refund the money. I said I'm sorry but this payment was not for today's date of service this was for the old balance from September, I do not have an upfront copay because we have a PPO with a 10% coinsurance, and your exact words Stacy were that you were going to refund the $7.52 since we could not pay today. I also then said so your going to deny my son service today over $7.52 that I've never received a bill from your office on? Stacy then said very rudely and unprofessionally "Yup" were not refunding you the money. I said that is horrible customer service and unprofessional service your providing your patients over $7.52 that we did not have to pay today and weren't prepared for or notified about, and I am going to file a grievance with the insurance and I am filing a complaint with the medical board that your office is under,because you cannot deny services to a patient especially over such a small balance of $7.52 that I will pay when I have the funds to make the payment. I am so upset over the poor service we received today from this office and unprofessional office manager Stacy that I will not be bringing my son back to this office. I cannot believe a doctors office who got paid by the insurance for this old date of service and is pending payment over such a small balance is hurting that bad to deny services to a patient over $7.52 That is unacceptable and this office needs to be corrected and will be corrected for providing such horrible service to their patients. The staff was all very nice as well as Dr. Wu. However, I'm used to a little more of a personality with my doctor. Dr. Wu was all business, I'm not sure he even said hello to me and my 3 kids when he came into the room. If you have limited options on pediatricians then Dr. Wu is perfectly fine. read more

Dr. Munawar is the best. First time mom concerned about everything. She answers all my questions and never acts like they are stupid questions. She is careful to jump right to giving medications but will when it is necessary. I originally had another pediatrician but switched because she showed no concern that my 3 week old baby screamed in pain when trying to go to the bathroom. Dr. Munawar is completely different. My children were patients of this office and now my grandchildren are patients. Dr Wu took over for the previous doctor who recently retired. The office staff is the same staff who has been their for at least 20 years or so. They are kind, compassionate and professional and they know their patients. The person who stated the administration cant stand crying kids must be the man who was there with his daughter when I was there with my grandchild. This man stood at the front window with his child screaming and blowing snot bubbles all the while the receptionist was trying to help me and conduct business on the phone. She finally asked him to use a Kleenex and to set down with the child. He began calling the women a racist and causing a scene in front of children and parents. As a first time patient I expected the doctor to talk to my son or at least introduce himself, instead he seemed annoyed that we were even there as we had interrupted his session with his computer. Rather than partaking in human interaction he simply typed away at his laptop and rushed through the entire appointment. Dr. Wu offered no follow up on the virus he said my son "probably" had and simply suggested I drug him with over the counter pharmaceuticals instead.
