I've been bringing my daughter here for her well visits the past year as well as a couple visits when she was ill. We have visited with both of the Drs and I appreciate their time and patience they've had every visit. My husband typically has a lot of questions/concerns and they always take the time to address them. Dr. Melanie is so sweet she will put your fears at ease, and her husband is also very thorough in his explanations and you don't feel like you're being rushed out as I've experienced elsewhere. I have had zero issue in contacting the office, I have been able to get an appointment quickly and even same day when I had an urgent issue. The two people I have interacted with at the front desk have been very helpful, even when I initially was having issues with my insurance, they were patient and helpful. Always easy to get a hold of someone in the office, and we've never had a problem getting an appointment when needed, even a same day "urgent" appointment for our newborn. Dr. Tran is our baby's main pediatrician and we absolutely adore her. She's extremely personable and always takes her time with my husband and I. As first time parents, it's extremely important to us that we are heard and that we are able to get all our questions answered, and Dr. Tran really goes above and beyond to make us comfortable. We've also seen Dr. Gordon, who is equally fabulous. It's clear that the doctors here really love what they do and they're so good with our baby and with us. Office staff is always very short and rude. They come across as if you're wasting their time. It's very difficult and uncomfortable to communicate with them. I never feel like we get anything actually done when we come here. I don't feel like there is actually quality care being given here. The office hasn't been updated since probably the 80s - not that it really matters, I guess, but this is a doctors office... The only thing positive I have to say is that the wife is very, very sweet and comes across as caring. If it wasn't for her, we wouldn't have even come back a second time. Unfortunately, at this point, we can NEVER get in contact with the office. The phone constantly goes to voicemail, no matter what time of day you call, even if it's within their ridiculous business hours. And no, pressing 2 will not get you an answer or a call back either. I've tried to contact them for over 3 weeks to get my child's test results to no avail. Needless to say, we will not be using them as our provider anymore. I'm honestly a little embarrassed that I stuck with them as long as I did. read more

We just switched from Dr. Blumenthal office.. that place is FILTHY and they are both WEIRD! He won't look at you when speaking to you.. she's nice enough but so odd, and the nurse can't keep vaccines straight.. they gave my 19mo the varicella vaccine twice and the MMR when I had said I wanted to wait until she was 3 for that one.. I would try somewhere else. The last straw for me was when the man brought me to tears at my my daughter's last well visit basically implying that she is malnourished (she's around 20th percentile for both height and weight, she's just petite AND she had been sick since Christmas which he should have known since we had just been in 2 weeks prior due to illness) after pushing formula on us all throughout our time there.. also, there will be no reminder call from the office. read more

Our insurance recently changed and we were assigned to Dr. Richard A. Blumenthal, MD. I loved our old doctor who had been in the family since my husband was a child but am happy with the new doctor, so far :) I am quite surprised at the negative reviews. I thought that the staff was very nice and all in all had a great experience. I am very particular when it comes to my children, especially their health so finding a good doctor to me is very important. I often will examine the experience and quality of service thoroughly. To my surprise this office from the office appearance itself, the staffs positive and understanding attitude, and the doctors great bedside manner and knowledge was amazing. Below is a list of my thoughts based on our first time visit: - I love the fact that the office has a sick room and well room - I had a well baby visit for my 9 months old and my older son got sick, the staff was able to squeeze in my other son so that they were both able to see the doctor together. (THANK YOU) -The nurse that assisted me when we first went in was super sweet and was able to keep my little one happy and distracted while check vitals - The doctor himself had great bedside manner and was very thorough with both children, he was very nice. By far the worst pediatric I've ever been to. Richard genuinely shows ZERO interest in your child, much less wanting to help you with the issue you may be facing. The office is disgusting and dirty, and he himself appears to be sloppy and puts minimal effort into his own well-being. Trust me, for the sake of your child, stay away. read more

Due to change in insurance we were no longer able to see our regular pediatrician at Hoag. I was frantically trying to find a new pediatrician because my baby was due for his 2 month vaccines. When I called the office to schedule an appointment, Dr. Blumenthal personally answered the phone right away and stated he sometimes helps out with office calls when his staff is very busy. I was able to schedule an appointment and saw him two days later. When we arrived the doctor took his time answering all of my questions (and I had several) and even followed up 5 minutes after our appointment with more information regarding my last question. Overall very easy going and thorough pediatrician. The only gripe was that we arrived to our appointment on time and waited 30 minutes for doctor to come see us and it was quite warm in there! Other than that everything went very smoothly. Would definitely recommend him and his wife though we only met him at this time. The nurse that gave our baby his shots was also very sweet and personable, wish we got her name. read more

This is a husband and wife practice. The sad part is the wife is very nice. She was the only pleasant thing about this practice. The other pediatrician mediocre at best. The office is dingy and dated and not very clean. Probably the worst part is the receptionist. She is not interested at all I'm speaking or helping anyone. She is lazy and has a terrible attitude. Every time she answers the phone it seems you are bothering her. Horribly experience the three times I had to go here. I read previous reviews from 9 years ago. They had staffing issues back then and they responded by saying they changed front staff. Well they must have found someone just as rude and lazy. My child is sick and I preferred to cancel my appt and go to urgent care because of the lady at the front desk. Also referrals is a huge hassle. She said she mailed it to me weeks ago I never received it of course. I advised her to cancel my appt I was going to look for a new pediatrician her response was ok she she hung up. I have been taking my children here for a few years. My kids ABSOLUTELY love Dr. Melanie Blumenthal. Her bedside manner is beyond exceptional! Her caring demeanor is truly appreciated by my little ones. The soft tones she talks in immediately sets children at ease. Kids can see through a fake act in a nanosecond, so it's important that adults are genuine towards them. I have a 10 year old who does not like going to the doctor for any reason (even a check-up!), but her face lights up at the mere mention of Dr. Melanie Blumenthal's name. She is the only person in the world that she does not mind getting a shot from! I pray that Dr. B is around until my kids no longer need a pediatrician. read more

My wife has been bringing the kids here since they were born now we are going on seven years for the oldest so thats how long we've been loyal to them. We have always been treated with the utmost professionalism and service by the doctors I remember bringing both of our children as infants to get their first shots in their car seats the ones that latch into to base now we could barely have them just sit still. Today we took our littlest one to school even though she has some sniffles but the teacher sent her home so when we got home my wife called the office to see if they could fit her in but they didn't open till 9am so a little after 9 my wife called again and they fit her in at noon which was very convenient for us not having to wait another day and maybe now she doesn't have to miss another day of school. I can only speak highly of our experiences with both Dr's Melanie and Richard Blumenthal but I also agree with some of the yelpers that the front office staff needs improvement and better customer service skills specially staff employee Luz....please smile sometime and welcome people when they arrive its pretty simple. If it wasn't for the front office staff I'd rate this place a 5 star but for now only 3 stars and whats up with the visual arm tattoos on 2 employees they'd seem more professional if they were covered. read more

My child has been seeing Mr. & Mrs. Blumenthal for a few years now. There are pros and cons to all things. CON: parking lot is small. Sometimes you will have to find street or neighborhood parking. CON: MA will call u up soon to do vitals but usually there is a long wait time when u are assigned a room PRO: both doctors are great! They both have their own individual and unique way of communicating w/patients. Mr. Is patient, friendly, observant, and takes time to listen to concerns and address pt needs. Does not rush visit. Mrs. Is very friendly, upbeat, and easily relates to young children being sympathetic, concerned and understanding. She is def. Unique in a good way. I didn't mention staff being that honestly I was never too concerned w/them. They havent noticeably provided exceptional service but also they have not provided horrible service or anything of negative way to stand out, make me notice and complain. Some people are just nit pickers i guess. Overall our experience is positive and we dont intend ok changing or switching our doctors. Content & satisfied! read more

I stayed a little longer at this office because I was having a difficult time finding a pediatrician taking in new patients that was close to home, and I am cautiously optimistic about Dr. Blumenthal's office. Let me first say that I never had an issue with the doctor(s), Mister is not the "baby talk" pediatrician, if that's what you're looking for, but he is straight-forward and concise, which I appreciate. Mrs. is more of the "baby talk" pediatrician, which is also okay with me, because she is still thorough and shows a great deal of care! My issue was with the staff at the front desk, and in the past few months they seem to have improved! They are WAY nicer now and they seem to be making a true effort to improve in their patient services/kindness and ettiquette areas. Los Alamitos, I grew up in the area, its a good central location for the OC / LA area, why I choose this pediatrician. YOU WILL WAIT FOREVER! With an appointment, and showing up even early doesn't help this problem! Sick/Well Room available....few toys and books Front office staff..need major improvments! Theyre priority should be patients and their care...IT IS OBVIOUS that this is not the case. MR. DR...gave me a hard time when I didn't want to give my infant all his vaccinations at once..uhh hello its my decision as a parent. MRS DR. shes a sweety... you seroiously see the dr for less than 5 minutes but you wait an hour. Does not make sense. Referrals to specialist....take forever, they are not on top of it. Anticipate, even with an appointment, a long wait (1 hour consistently). After my inability to make an appointment within two days for a potential bone break, I am now actively looking for a more available doctor. I have to share that the staff is not very welcoming. I love these professionals. The whole team is helpful and sweet. They are patient with my daughter, answer all of her questions as well as mine because SHE is their patient! They make up for the mildly long wait time with full attentiveness and thorough research of any concerns you express. I have been coming here for 9 years now and everyone is very helpful. I will say that the waiting room and rooms are almost like time capsules that never change but they are tidy and not dirty, simply a bit outdated. I have gotten same day sick appointments before. My call is always answered during their business hours. Despite the demands of a fast paced, impatient world I think they hold up and stay true to their values. I never see the waiting room packed like some places just trying to optimize profits and shuffle cattle through. Many of the previous reviews are very outdated. I would probably give 4 stars because no one is perfect, but considering their average currently I thought they deserve 5. My 5 yo and 2yo have been going here since 2015. For whatever reason we have seen Dr. Richard about 90% of the 50 times we've been there - that (50 times) is an exaggeration of course but when my son started preschool both kids were sick monthly. Dr. R takes his time with you and is very kind and thorough. I haven't had many appointments with Dr. Melanie but she certainly is sweet as can be. There have been maybe 3 or 4 nurses that we've gone through here and they have all been so lovely and caring. They have separate waiting rooms for sick and well children that is appreciated. Their hours are slightly limited at 9 to 5 but good for them for not working too long. Lastly, we spread out vaccines and the docs were totally cool with that. read more

We love our Doctors Melanie and Richard Blumenthal! I've been taking my 10-year-old, severely-autistic daughter to the Blumenthal's since she was a baby and they have always been so kind and caring. They helped me to have her diagnosed early on by a top neurologist, and have been helping me along the way with a medical treatment that has garnered truly positive results! They are both very easy to talk to and when I call with questions, I can always count on getting a call back personally from one of the doctors. We have recently moved a few cities away, but we will make future trips out, however long, just to keep them as our trusted physicians. read more

They must have new staff at the front office. Started calling at 9:00am and kept getting a recorded message, finally connected to a live person by 9:16am. Was told by Aman that they have no available appointments for today. Never once did they ask for the patients name or condition. I asked for possible Urgent Care locations I could take the child and the response was, call your insurance provider. Been with this office for the past 15 years and have great respect and admiration for the Doctors, however, we will not be coming back. I tried unsuccessfully to email the Doctors before posting this review but their websites Contact Us link is not operational. Drs. Although we prefer the Mrs for getting along well with my daughter, both are very professional & take the time to listen to our questions & concerns. Office staff is rude. This office must have more patients than they can handle because my customer sastisfaction did not seem to be of importance. I changed to a different Dr. because it doesn't matter how nice the Dr. is (that's only Mrs by the way, Mr is not so great) if you cant get in to see them for 3-4 wks even when it's important. On several occassions I sat on hold with this office for upwards of 30 min. until I just decided to hang up. Phone calls were never returned. I would not recommend this office at all. We have taken all three of our kids here. Dr. Richard diagnosed our daughter with her but allergy and made every effort to make sure she was taken care of. When we had our third child we started seeing dr. Melanie and she's amazing. I love their bedside manner an I would highly recommend them to other parents.
